I like how they mentioned that Duane Brown has excelled at RUN blocking, which I think many on these boards forget about when they look at his sack totals and scream bust. Thanks for the link.

Both players are deserving of the recognition, but I am thrilled to see Brown get some positive recognition and a nod that he could have been picked even earlier in the first round than he was selected.
Remember when he was refered to as a stretch? :)

Man, you guys are on the ball on your Texans news. I just got done posting a blog entry on HT.com (http://www.houstontexans.com/news/blogs.asp?blogger_id=16) about this, and lo and behold I see that our faithful Bull Pen posters already had me scooped.
One thing worth noting (which I mention in my blog) - both of these players were acquired via the trade that Rick Smith made with the Baltimore Ravens. The Texans were criticized for moving down and then "reaching" for Brown, but turns out he might not have been so much of a reach after all...

Sorry Nick didn't mean to scoop you just a slow day at the office, so I saw it shortly after it was posted. Two years ago theey put both Demeco and Mario in the top 5 or 6 also, validating the Mario pick but praising the Demeco pick as I believe they had him going number one in their article.

I figure that was a good trade for both Baltimore & Houston. Baltimore got their QB & Houston got Slaton, Brown & Barber. Good trade for both teams.

Mario was 6th, DeMeco was 8th. The thing I loved about that re-draft was that he projected that the Texans (again) take neither Bush or Young. Not trying to beat a dead horse (love the Office Space pic on another thread) but basically re-affirming that the 2008 draft wasn't the first (or last) time the Texans' draft has been highlited in the SI re-draft.

I also enjoyed the parts about the Packers drafting Jay Cutler and the Jets taking Leinart. Imagine how different the league would be if it had gone down that way.
And for those with a bat in their hands, he also says that the Saints should have drafted a WR instead of Bush. Have at it.

thanks for the clairification, one forgets over the two years but draft pick for draft pick i am not sure we would not be in the top five for the last 3 years with our new regime!!

Even John Madden is giving us some love
Tennessee @ Houston
I have watched Houston all year and even when they were losing they were very, very close. This is a team that didn't have a great record, but is a pretty good team. You get Matt Schaub back there and he had a big week last week and on defense I think Mario Williams is one of the best players in the league. They are very, very close to being a top team. They are very, very close to being a playoff team. I think that if Tennessee doesn't play their best football this could be a tough one for them.

Ok, being as bored as I am I decided to fill the gap between my previous post and the OP and re-link the 2007 re-draft (hope I'm not stealing the OP's thunder) where Okoye was ranked 4th.
I know he's declined a bit this year, but I think many of us expected it to happen when he turned 21. (Kidding!)

Peter King Jumps on-board and says we win Sunday too!!
Tennessee Titans (12-1) at Houston Texans (6-7)
Let's just say Mario Williams torments Kerry Collins enough, and Matt Schaub evades the Vanden Bosch/Haynesworth/Bulluck rush long enough to throw for 275 yards. Do you realize the Steelers will enter their 4:15 game knowing they control their fate for the No. 1 seed throughout the AFC playoffs?
Prediction: Houston Texans 23, Tennessee Titans 20

Well, this game is basically our Super Bowl*, so I'm hoping Madden and King are dead on in their assessments.
*I remember the Ravens saying this before their Monday Night game vs the Patriots last year. What a great game.

Wow, Slaton on a re-do would be the 9th player taken. And Brown would be the 12 th player taken.
Not bad not bad.
And somebody mentioned the tough season Okoye is having. But lets not forget that Okoye is supposed to be battling through some injuries. Let's hope he finishes the season strong and can do even better next season.

My real problem with the article is that if Duane Brown and Joe Flacco weren't on the board, the Texans and Ravens probably wouldn't have made the trade for picks.

Baltimore didn't have to trade with us, we were just the only ones that made them reasonable offer to trade down, Flacco probably would have been there at 26 they tok our offer to mitigate any risk someone else jumped in fron of them (we only gave up 8 spots), where would we be if they waited and didn't give us a future probowl running back, and a very servicable LT, we probably would just have a LT (Gosder) or a good running back Mendehall, but not both.
High praise indeed, when it comes from John Madden.
We may surprise a lot of people and be in the playoff chase for good by next years Draft, if it goes like I think it will (hope it will!).
