I am hoping for big things this year from CC Brown.
The interview of Ahman Green on the 2nd day of the OTAs where he said:
"All the young guys; even the guys that are starters that are young—(DE) Mario (Williams), (S) C.C. (Brown) in the defensive backfield—those guys, you can tell that they’re hungry. (WR) Andre (Johnson), all of those guys. They want to get better. They want to stop being the pushover in the AFC South.”
I would like nothing more to see CC Brown become a star free safety. I remember watching him last year come out of nowhere playing strong safety and he was seemingly everywhere making plays. He did let me down once moved to free safety (the Buffalo game and Lee Evans sticks in my head), but I hope that was more of a learning curve than a lack of ability to play the postion.
Having an all pro like Ahman Green notice CC and call him out says to me that he may be special.
It would be nice as we have never had a star free safety....unless you count Matt Stevens (obvious sarcasam)
it's too bad that casserly could never properly draft talent to foster behind glenn and coleman. Let's hope this kid proves Casserly right though the track record for doing that is pretty grim.

CC started every game but one (late in the season) at FS last season. Earl was the SS.

Could he be thinking of 2 years ago? Didn't CC start out at SS his rookie season and then quickly move to FS after Coleman bombed out on us (or whatever he did to get removed from the startin lineup)?

You are right, I was mixing the two seasons together. Thought CC made a lot of plays his rookie year in '05 but last year I mainly noticed him when he was getting burnt.
Does anyone know how fast CC runs?

I honestly can only remember one great play by CC. I'm hoping for him to get better this year. I think I remember seeing a 40 time somewhere around 4.45.
Ah, Coleman. I'm trying to remember what exactly he got ditched for. Missing team meetings or something.

Don't worry guys, we are going to have a star-caliber FS sooner than later. His name is Brondon Harrisson. This guy will get PT later in the year & be our starting FS next year. Diamond-in-the-ruff is exactly what Kubes & Smith think of this guy & I'm no psychic, but this guy is going to make a name for hisself at the FS position.

I sure hope your right, but I would have no problem if CC can emerge at FS, as well...would give some nice cometition

Really? That's interesting b/c everything I've heard about him has implyed he's more of a SS (which we already have 2 of) that could possibly convert well to LB. I really hope you're right though b/c FS was one of the positions I thought we really needed to adress in the draft and feel we didn't. I trust Kubes & Co. made the right calls though. We'll just have to wait and see...(man I'm tired of having to say that)

ditto....everything i've heard indicates he's better suited at SS also even though he can play FS. Seems like we already have a few of those types on our roster. I also hope you're right but if you have some actual inside info about his FS skills I'd like to hear it so I can sleep better at night

I've seen Brown make a bunch of nice plays...he's a youngster and some guys take a few years to develop....hopefully he has a great year this season.

I heard that he played CB a fair amount in college (like half his senior season or something), and that Stanford didn't really us a FS and SS, more like two safeties without either being designated as a specific type of safety.

The write-up on MSNBC states:
Brandon HarrisonS (http://www.msnbc.com/modules/sports/nfldraft/positions.asp?position=S)</B>6-2210Houston (http://www.msnbc.com/modules/sports/nfldraft/teampreviews.asp?teamid=34)5 / 144Harrison is an absolute specimen and has the physical presence to be a dominant safety -- if he works out his many kinks. With only five percent body fat and a chiseled look, Harrison will impress teams with his build and movement skills, but he isn't very physical and must improve on quickness and cover skills. Playing both cornerback and safety in college, Harrison must improve in many areas before he can be the guy he looks like he should be.

Don't like the "isn't very physical", especially for a safety and with CC lining up at 6' 208 pounds not a huge difference in size. I am hoping CC will improve in his 2nd year of Kubiak's (Richard Smith's) system.

Coleman was ditched because he missed a team walk through, fumbled an interception, and mishandled an onside kick. Article also states that:
The Texans have been high on Brown for his work ethic and hard hits. He started eight games earlier this season when Earl was injured.
"C.C. Brown's been a guy that we wanted to continue to work into things more and more," Capers said. "We've been pleased with what Glenn Earl's done and given us helping in run support. We played our best run defense this past game."

I'm not sure that's saying much, considering how the whole season was a train wreck and everything...

If I remember correctly he has short range(but he's above average in coverage in his range), margingal man coverage abillities, he reacts better than he diagnoses, over aggressive at times(i.e. play actions bites), subpar deep coverage, and is decent in zones. Oh decent tackler and has good fluid hips(i think is why he's playing FS over Earl).
His and Earl's coverage abillities are simialar, Brown's more fluid with the better hips and Earl's bigger and unloads when he arrives(remember Earl was the #2 safety in his draft and was a projected as a first round pick till he tore his knee up). Statistically though they are in the neighborhood of all the above average safeties(it'll be nice to see them when a consistent pass rush develops).

the thing is we all know they both (cc and earl) excell in the rush defense...not really pass defense...both are the type of safeties that every season they might get 1 int possibly 2...they won't hurt you with their tackling either...it's just do they get to where they need to be in coverage to make that tackle...not always...and sometimes it's not often that they do...i think both CC brown and glenn Earl need to be in competition for the starting SS position and let harrison, walker, and mitchell battle it out for the starting FS position...have earl or brown whoever losing the battle for the starting SS position be the main back up guy to both positions
either way i can think of a lot of safeties in the league that i would rather have than both earl and brown...but i can also think of a lot of guys i would take these two over any day of the week...as a tandom earl and brown are average...we need one guy to come in and be above average to good as a pass defender in coverage

Agreed. We need a real FS playing FS, not a converted SS. In some ways, that was Capers' mistake of trying to make CC a FS (although it was a desperation move, what with Coleman misbehaving and being demoted).
