I posted this blog on the I'm a Texan Club (http://www.imatexan.com/profiles/rblnick/profile_blogs.asp?post_id=393) and I thought it would be appropriate to post here as well. I know a lot of you guys are thirsty for the latest Texans news, especially during the offseason with free agency, the NFL draft and all of the potential coaching and personnel changes.

With that in mind, I thought this would be a good time to communicate to you guys the best ways for you to keep up with the team and make sure you get the latest Texans news before anyone else does.

#1: HoustonTexans.com (http://www.houstontexans.com/index2.html) - This is an obvious choice, but visiting the site every day will ensure that you get the most in-depth coverage of the team - online or in print. We even have links on the home page to team coverage across the Internet, so it's a one-stop shop for everything Texans.

#2: Houston Texans Newsletter (http://www.houstontexans.com/signup.asp) - During the season, we send out the newsletter weekly to more than 50,000 fans. During the offseason, we send it out every other week. We include all of the team's latest news in the newsletter, as well as exclusive sponsor offers, player/cheerleader apperance information, ticket updates and much more. To sign up, click here (http://www.houstontexans.com/signup.asp).

#3: I'm a Texan Club (http://www.imatexan.com/) - Chances are that if you're reading this, you're a member of the I'm a Texan Club already. But if not, sign up today and create a profile. The more Texans fans you connect with, the more you'll be exposed to things ranging from offseason rumors to tailgating opportunities and cool Texans videos, etc. Word travels fast between fans, so I encourage everyone to connect and communicate. Sometimes the best sources for information are other fans.

#4: Texans' official message boards - Chances are that you've already signed up to post on the message boards if you're reading this, but if not, sign up today. Please be patient as we have to manually approve all registrations.

In any case, we get thousands of fans each month post on our message boards. You can comment on news relating to the team and find out what's on the mind of other fans. Many times fans on the message boards will link to news on the team from other sites, so this is a good way to keep up to date.

#5: Verizon text alerts (http://houstontexans.com/fanzone/VerizonWirelessTextAlerts.asp) - If you're a Verizon subscriber, sign up for free to receive text alerts from the team on everything from trades, free agent acquisitions and player appearances to live streaming video times, draft choices and scoring updates.

Unless you have Game/Field Pass, you won't be able to get the full videos or audio, but as jkeener71 said, the highlights, will always be available on the Texans website.

I’m Caught in a Houston Football Love Triangle

By Rolando Rodriguez

I’m involved in a tragic love story. Let me tell you about it. Back in 1996, I was in love with this girl, but her daddy decided to snatch her away like a thief in the night and move to Nashville when I wouldn’t buy his daughter a new house. I waited for her to come back, but she never did. She traded Houston sky scrapers and DJ Screw for the beautiful Tennessee countryside and country music. From what I hear she’s done well out there. She’s come close to the big time, but fell a yard short.

I have such fond memories of her. Actually, my parents introduced me to her when we moved to the Sharpstown area of Houston from Edcouch-Elsa, Texas. I was just five years old when I came to H-Town in the early 80s. My parents, like many who migrated up the coast from South Texas, tried to find something – anything – to make this city feel like home. It was hard because it was so different from what we were used to. The diversity, the pace of life, the sheer size is enough to make any Valley native just bolt down U.S. 59 South back to the comfort and warm, humid blanket of simplicity. But my family didn’t. They didn’t cower. In fact, they embraced the city and we stayed.

And that’s when I met her and fell in love for the first time. Her name was Houston and she was of the Oiler family. Her signature was the color she wore. Oh, I remember how beautiful she looked in Columbia blue.
