If the Texans draft a DE in the first round to go with Mario it woulld make the defence so much fierce if the DE is a top rated one.

welcome to the board :D
yes indeed we need someone with mario.
I think brown and orakpo are gonna be gone
and I dont want us to reach for a de in the 1st
therefore i would go for the best player availiable
and everyone knows who i want.

I have us signing a FA DE and drafting 2 DE's in the draft....one in the 2nd round and one in the 5th......alot of people have been talking about it under the 09 offseason thread.

I Think if the Texans will be looking for a DE to offset Mario in FA, I think that they should be looking at Chris Canty from the cowboys and also Igor Olshansky and at LB, they should be looking at Karlos Dansby and Michael Boley. That will leave them with a opportuniy to daft the best availible strong safety with the first and a power back in the second round.

Canty and Olsh are both DE's in a 3-4 right now and don't fit exactly right here IMO. I'm not sold on any of the DE's totally but Antonio Smith of the Cards seems to be a good fit.
As far as SLB, Dansby would be my first choice. That said Ryans needs a new contract soon and we can't have 2 LB's with huge contracts......it just won't work. Boley would be a good fit as well but has some character issues so I scratched him off my list totally. Angelo Crowell of Buffalo would be an excellent late signing if healthy. I have us taking Brian Cushing SLB/USC either at #15 or trading back to #23 with the Patriots and nabbing him then.
As far as SS.......I'm kinda wondering if the Texans won't try Reeves there.....guy is a ball hawk......just can cover man to man.

KUBIAK has to BUST A MOVE real soon....the DEFENSE has to be changed......DRASTICLY. i think KUBIAK will obtain JP know matter what:D...it seems he has what we want and need.....INSTANT PASS RUSH ABILITY:D.....plus he has the right attitude for the right job....if we do DRAFT a DE it would be in the 1st round....let there be know doubt about that.....BROWN would be a gr8 choice..if we indeed could get him:D, but really i probably will be happy with whomever they get

reeves does his best when he's in man coverage. the reason why dallas hates him is cuz he got burnt on zone coverages. wilson and barber i think is a great safety tandemn. a de in the first should do it and then were just adding depth.

mel kiper has us taking a guy named everette i think from FSU, a DE. But i roomed with a guy who played for FSU about 3 years ago, and besides the fact that he a complete schizoprhenic who went on to steal credit card numbers from people in the dorm, he said FSU players have no control, theyre all lacking discipline.
so i dont know. we need a starting corner, a starting safety, and a starting DE. We need a change of pace back to help slaton, and we need OL depth or even an OL starter from FA.
this draft has no DBs at our spot. M. Jenkins would be a Godsend but hes gone Top10.
theres a couple of interesting DE's in this draft, like my man from Georgia Tech i think. Johnson? He could complement mario like tuck for Osi. I live in NJ... anywho
a plethera of running weapons are available in this years draft, and after drafting slaton last year, our FO can draft any RB and id be cool with it. Maybe Ronald Brown, i grew up with him, Knowshown too, good guys, little cocky, but NJ has some talent... I digress
this upcomming season? if we lay another egg... someones gunna get fired.

brown is a different animal when it comes to FSU DEs. humble, softspoken guy who actively takes part in community service projects and such. very high character.
draft BPA in the 1st or trade down and take FS Sean Smith. DE Paul Kruger in the 2nd or DE Robert Ayers in the 3rd

Brown or Orakpo in the 1st
Ayers, Kruger, or Michael Johnson in the 2nd
Ahhh...that elusive DE! I wouldn't mind Peppers, I just think I would like to see Rick Smith weave his magic in the Draft and see what he can come up with.

If he is available when the texans pick, Rick Smith might be telling Roger Goodell to run to the podium. Brown is a speedrusher that needs to bulk up. The combine will help decide who falls and who rises on teams boards but at this point it looks like he could compliment Mario quite well, if available @15

Peppers is a 3-4 defense player, plus it would not make sense to spend the amount we would have to, to get his services.
I also think he might be weaker on the right side than people expect.

You need to stop for just a moment and picture yourself as QB in the NFL. Now picture yourself under center and on the other side is Mario Williams on one side and Julius Peppers on the other. Now ask yourself this question, why is it that Titans can offer Haynesworth the big bucks, and Colts can offer Freeney the big bucks and the Vikes can offer Allen the big bucks and the Falcons can offer Abraham the big bucks but the Texans CAN"T offer Peppers the big bucks. THEY CAN!!!!!

They aren't going to take a chance & spend money on an all-pro player. Peppers would change the whole complextion of the defense.
I would let Dunta go & sign Peppers with the money I saved. Then draft a CB (Davis,Moore or A. Smith).
This wont happen because of Uncle Bobs reluctance to spend money.
Somethings never change
1. Texans have never had a winning record
2. Bob always raises ticket prices & makes a boat load of money

It's not that Bob or the front office are reluctant to spend money, it is just that after the early years of crappy decisions, they don't want to once again invest so heavily in FA or draft picks that may not work out that it screws up the works for years.
Personally, I'd rather go after Suggs then Peppers, but neither would probably be as big of an impact player as we would all hope. At the very least a good drafted DE would add youth to the line and more potential.

Brown would make me a happy man if he is still there and we grab him. He and Mario are homeboys too. We can't go wrong with D linemen from Carolina..

Explain to me how Peppers is a 3-4 DE? He has been in a 4-3 since his college days.
Why not Peppers?........because he wants to break the bank and we don't have the CAP room. Besides we haven't done all that well in FA in the past.

Its been said since Smith & Kubes came aboard, that this team is going to be BUILT thru the draft. We as an organization will never chase after the hi-profile names who are searching for bigg pay-days, which im cool with. Mid-level FA's are always gonna be the ones we pick up, which makes perfect sense. Draft studs & keep them in a TEXANS uniform for a long, long time. FO's are looking at the Cowboys as a prime example of chasing after names & not considering chemistry, locker-room presence & character.
