FOX Sports writer Peter Schrager has released his first mock draft of the season, and has the Texans taking DT Peria Jerry from Ole Miss at #15.
If you read his reasoning for the selection, he states that the Texans Defensive Line was the team's worst unit last season. I whole-heartedly disagree with that statement, but I do agree that if Jerry is available at #15 he should be the guy. He's an absolute monster in the middle and would add tremendously to our already young DL. Okoye battled minor injuries last season. It'd be nice to have another young DT with a similar skill set.
If you want to talk safety...that's where the #47 pick comes into play. As I've mentioned before, rookie DBs rarely have big impacts their rookie seasons, so it only makes sense to not draft one in the First Round. After all, CB is the most difficult for a college guy to make the transition. I'm excited to see what Antwaun Molden can do in his Sophomore season in the NFL, so I don't think CB is THAT pressing of a need. It's high on the list, but not as high as most people seem to think. Now, if the Oakland Raiders decide NOT to franchise Nnamdi Asomugha then Rick Smith needs to spend all of his energy trying to make a deal for him happen and get him in Houston.
