Round 1 - Robert Ayers - DE In my eyes best all around Defensive end in the draft.
Round 2 - Alphonso Smith CB - Can never have too many CBs
Round 3 - Louis Murphy WR - If we are shopping JJ this could be a WR of the future
Round 4 - Otis Wiley S Free safety of the future
Round 4 - Gartrell Johnson RB - Why wait and see draft him now and solidify your backfield
Round 5 CJ Davis OG need to draft a Guard to compete with Brisiel
Round 6 Moise Fokou - LB project that could be the next Zac Diles
Round 7 Tom Brandstater QB the next QB project for Kubiak

Not a bad draft but we will draft an OLB in the first three rounds. Pass rush is the concentration of the offseason and a solid Sam can provide pressure off the edge.
I doubt we go WR in the 3rd either. If we get rid of JJ, we still have Andre Davis, AJ, KW, and David Anderson (assuming he is tendered). We will probobly draft a late round wr who possibly has kick returning abilities. Darnell Jenkins is still on the team as well.
You made some solid picks though, I really like Ayers, your second round db and Gartrell. I am unsure if we go CB that early this season or next, the whole drob scenario may force us to do it this year. The problem is, this isn't a great CB draft class.

I have no problem with this but not at 15. I would be ok with it in a trade down scenario.
Round 2 - Alphonso Smith CB - Can never have too many CBs
Sign me up
Round 3 - Louis Murphy WR - If we are shopping JJ this could be a WR of the future
I was actually thinking about this the other day. Wouldn't mind a WR in this draft if we trade JJ. There are also a few 3rd/4th rd tweeners that I like as well.
Round 4 - Otis Wiley S Free safety of the future
Do you really think he will go this high? I've not seen his name on most of the draft boards I visit. Seems to me we could snag him in the 6th/7th.
Round 4 - Gartrell Johnson RB - Why wait and see draft him now and solidify your backfield
I'm on board with taking him but this is too high. He's projected as a 5th-7th.
Round 5 CJ Davis OG need to draft a Guard to compete with Brisiel
Agree we need a OG/C in this draft. I know nothing about this guy so I will just trust your pick.
Round 6 Moise Fokou - LB project that could be the next Zac Diles
Would rather have a 3rd/4th rd guy (Freeman, McKenzie, Follett) that could compete for a starting spot now. With your 4th rd picks being a little high, there is a perfect opportunity to pick a LB there instead.
Round 7 Tom Brandstater QB the next QB project for Kubiak
I realize it's just a 7th, but honestly I don't know if I want them to spend a pick on another "project" If they are going to pick another QB I would rather they pick someone they think could compete for the #2 spot this year or next. Otherwise I would rather use our 7th on a guy who has a chance to at least make the roster as a special teamer.
Since I tend to critique everyone else's mock I will post one of my own later.

Kubiak alwasy has a project QB 2007 it was the guy from Boise State
2008 - Alex Brink
Its like an annual thing something for him to play with.
Wiley in the 7th would be awesome considering all he lacks is consistency which is the trademark mantra for every star that enters the league with a chip on his shoulder.
I like Fokou because of his athletic ability.
I know gartrell is projected lower but why wait and risk him not being there if you want him? I understand the value system but if you fill a need you fill a need.

It is becoming clear to me that the Texans are looking to replenish at OT. I think an OT will be drafted at some point in the first 4 rounds.
I like every pick except Ayers. If Antonio Smith is signed, I wouldn't expect a DE to be drafted in Round 1. Look for a Safety at that spot. I have developed a massive man-love for Lawrence Sidbury, who could be precisely the 'breather' that Mario needs. You add a guy like Marcus Freeman or DeAndre Levy and then you're in business.

I'm somewhat ok with this if we are assuming that the Brink experiment is over. Zabransky was a UDFA that we picked up as a project but decided he wasn't worth it. I'm not real big on using another pick just so we can have 2 QBs on the practice squad. I would also rather they just go the UDFA route if he is looking for another project.
I like Fokou because of his athletic ability.
I'd be fine with trying to pick him up for depth & special teams, I would just like to have a 3rd/4th rd LB like Freeman that would be able to compete for a starting spot now.

But if you can fill another need in the 4th and still get Gartrell in the 5th that would be even better.

for clarification sake.....is it that you don't like robert ayers as a player or that you don't like him with the 15th pick. like i said about a month ago, ayers is the best 4-3 DE in this draft. he does it all....he can rush the passer and is a monster against the run. to sum it up, no DE prospect in this years draft class controls the line of scrimmage like this guy does. he pretty much makes all plays ran to his side of the line. he plays more with intelligence than he does pure skill. would be nice if we can grab him. check out some of his highlights below.

I agree. There's also the guy from LSU that NFL.com has going to us in a couple of drafts that wouldn't be a bad option...more size than Sidbury, but I like the speed and mobility of the small-schooler.

If we sign a free agent DE, there's really no reason to draft one in Round 1. CB, on the other hand, is a justifiable 1st Round pick, given the fact Dunta might not be here in 2010.

That same guy from LSU, Tyson Jackson, is who i picked for the texans in the 2nd round of johndoe's mock draft. I got crucified by some memebers on this board for making that pick. yet, nfl.com mock drafts have us picking him in the 1st round.....wow!

There aren't any safeties worth the 15th selectioin. Unless you want to move Malcon Jenkins to safety (I would be good with that). As far as not drafting a DE in the first if we get Smith I disagree. Smith is not going to be a star, we also need more depth at the position. That being said, I really don't see any 4-3 DE's that will be available and are worth the 15th selection. I would rather take a OLB in the first because I think there will be better value at 15 and go DE in the 2nd. We just resigned E. Wilson to a 3 year deal so I doubt S is too high on the needs list.

A guy that big and that good at holding his own in a run game would be an extremely welcome 2nd round pick. And the way that mock fell, Beanie was a good pick too. I think you did a fantastic job.
Sincerely,
guy who took Everette Brown 3rd overall for the Chefs. :)
