We still need a NT who can fill the space and stop the run. Okam is a project and he might never able to start. TJ is mediocre at best. Ron Brace has great size and does very good job against the run and this is exactly what we need. What do you think about him?

I like the idea we should look at him or Ziggy Hood, But I do hope Okam shows up this season.

I would be interested. Especially now that we found a starter at LDE. It all depends on what kind of DT's the Texans will be looking for in the new scheme. Is there a place for the big DT's? Are we looking for the smaller (if 300lbs. is small) gap penetrators? I don't know if we will know until the draft.

2nd round would be too early for this need...we got amobi...and travis.....gotta go for what u need more..first...which is safety..and now rb...since benson re signed with bengals...

Yes, Ziggy has great motor but he dont have the size to play NT.
And our run defense is 23rd in the league (even worse than our pass defense which is 17th), this is one of our biggest problems.

Like him a lot. He's exactly what we need alongside Amobi.
In my mock I have us moving down to the bottom of the first round (prob with Cardinals) in exchange for their second and third, then we take Alphonso Smith, Clay Matthews and Ron Brace with our first three picks. That would load us with talent at three major need positions, then we could go SS, DE and RB in the 3rd and 4th.

That would be true if Travis was any good. I just don't rate the guy. He's improved mightily the past season to achieve something like mediocrity. Ron Brace is going to be a force in the NFL and if we can move down in the first and pick up 2 extra picks we'd have plenty of room early on to draft the guy.
I agree with you about RB and SS, but there'll be very good players at both positions still available in the middle rounds. BJ Raji and Ron Brace are the only two elite NTs in the draft and I think that's still a glaring need.

I doubt the Cards would pay so much to move up.

I think Brace, with his massive size, is better suited to play NT in a 3-4 where his job would be to take up space and keep the o-line off of the linebackers...

I know - I doubt it too, but mock drafts aren't necessarily about realism. There is a slim chance though that they'd go for it (or possibly give up a second and a fourth plus a 2010 pick) if they want Wells or Moreno bad enough. That would leave us with three fourth rounders and we may be able to trade two of those for someone else's third ...
I can dream.
My guess though is that they'll take the best RB available. Donald Brown, Shonn Green ... they don't look elite but they probably have enough promise to convince the Cards to keep their picks.

He could certainly play there, but he'd be equally valuable shoring up the middle of a 4-3 line against the run and tying up O-linemen to free up our pass rushers. Look at Haynesworth. Look at John Henderson.

Brace makes Okam look like Reggie White. I doubt Brace goes before the 5th RD.

Does Ron Brace even fit Bill Kollar's style. I thought he wanted active high motor guys who can get up the field quickly, not cloggers.

I find it hard to imagine a successful defense without a shade (NT). You need that guy to command double teams and free up other players. A defense with two 3-techs will not be nearly as effective versus the run.

I tend to agree, I guess we have to wait and see.

Currently DT is the weakest group on the team. We don't currently have an above average player on the team at the position. We think Amobi can be a standout but other than him, it's a sub par group.

Actually Safety is the weakest position on the field. We had some good production last year, but really it only came from guys we picked up in the previous offseason. And only two of which are guaranteed to return and one's a rookie that only got a couple of looks at the field outside of special teams.
With DT, we actually have room to work with. TJ hasn't shown first round prowess but is a solid guy at his position. And the fact is we can move guys like Deljuan Robinson, Bulman, Cochran and now even Smith to play DT on the occasional down. I think DT is a need but unless Raji falls to us, I see us not picking up a DT until maybe the third round.
