This is pretty classless. They just paid tens of millions of dollars to add free agents and now they want people in thier organization to take a 2 week furloughs without pay.
Great move Jets.

Although it is rather unconventional, I think it is better than having to let people go. Spending money on players can't be help since ultimately what will keep the team going is their on-the-field performance. I guess instead of making their employees take the leave of absence, they could always raise the ticket prices more like the Texans ;)

Did y'all even read the article? They decided to do the two weeks unpaid instead of laying off/firing people.
Rather than cut jobs, as several other teams and the league office have done in recent weeks
I don't know about you, but I'd rather lose 2 weeks pay than to straight up lose my job.
As far as the coaches being affected:
The departments affected include marketing, media relations, finance and business operations. Employees on the football side, such as general manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan, aren’t included in the plan because those departments have already made reductions to their operating expenses.

Did you even consider the scope of things? What is the total salary for 2 weeks of the folks on furlough? I'd bet it doesn't add up to a single game check for some of the players.

Exactly. What a low blow to the employees.

Yes, but really don't see what players pay have to do with this. I think players have been overpaid for a while, but there pay is deteremined by the CBA. They are guaranteed 50% of the total Revenue of the league, so it's not like you can pay them less so you don't have to cut others pay or lay off other people.
Did you consider the bigger picture?
The survey of households found 12.5 million people are now unemployed, the most since records started being kept in 1940.

12.5 million people are unemployed and the jets could have added to that number just like the league and other teams have done. Instead of laying off anyone, they came up with a way so that all there employees got to keep there jobs.
I just don't see how the jets can be called classless when they did whatever they could to prevent having to fire anyone. They could of just said screw it and laid off 10-20% of there workers or however many it would of took to get where they wanted to be.

they should take that two weeks of pay they want from the business people from the players on the team. Its probably chump change to them.
