Why the Lions picked Calvin Johnson

Lions (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/8) offensive coordinator Mike Martz extended his motivational ways to his boss, head coach Rod Marinelli. After becoming convinced that receiver Calvin Johnson could make the Lions (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/8) one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, Martz began leaving handwritten notes on Marinelli's desk in the week leading up to the draft, claiming they were from Johnson. So when Marinelli got to his desk, he was greeted by this message: "Please draft me." The Lions (http://www.fannation.com/tags/show_tag/8) did, No. 2 overall, and Martz said he's never been as excited for a season to start.
I don't know why, this just seems a little unsavory, or unnerving, or wrong in some way to me.

I don't know why it seems unnerving - I thought it was a semi-funny joke. Obviously, Marinelli didn't think Calvin Johnson was leaving him hand-written notes.If you want an excellent behind-the-scenes about Matt Millen and the Lions 15 minutes on the clock, look for the column Peter King wrote on SI.com right after the draft.
