As I recall, in 2007 not many people were predicting Amobi Okoye.
In 2008, nobody had any inkling Duane Brown would be the pick.
Rashard Mendenhall, Jeff Otah, Reggie Nelson....these are the names I often heard in regards to our Round 1 picks both years.
What I'm getting at is simply that we all may be in for a surprise again this year. So with that in mind...
Any Alex Mack fans out there?

Nobody expected Okoye becasue he wasn't supposed to be on the board at 10, he was suppossed to be a top 7 pick, and dropped to us.
Nobody expected Brown because we were drafting at 18 at 26 Duane would have been and was the best OT prospect available. Until we know in what slot 15-32 we will pick in (if we get a deal to trade down) we have no idea who to expect

With the draft getting closer and closer, I have no idea who we will pick. We havent even shown our hand or bluffed at showing it. With that in mind, I could throw out names like Jerry, Matthews, Jenkins, Maybin, E. Brown, and others. But we'll just have to wait and see. No idea on who we even might take.

I haven't a clue who they will take... but I feel so much better about the way they draft than C & C... So whoever it is will probably be a very good pick. The Texans were recently rated at the best drafting teams for the past three years since they have 85% of their picks still playing. I can't wait to watch the draft.

I guess this says we all expected Rick Smith to be better at the draft than what he has shown so far.

I am a big fan of his and think he will end up being a pro bowler. He is a reach at 15, however. Bummer that he will be gone by our second round pick. There are some really good guards/centers that will still be available with our second rounder, however, and I bet we can even get a starting guard (Tyronne Green) in the 4th round.
I am through with mocks by the way. Texans will go BPA on their draft board, even if that means offense in the first and second. If they don't want the offensive guy that could be on top of their board when it is their turn, then they trade down for more picks if at all possible. I say this because I can see BPA as an OT or RB when it comes to our turn at 15. We should end up with about all of our needs filled by going BPA - the draft may just turn out differently that what we all expect. There are solid prospects at G/C, OLB, DT, Pass Rush Specialists, and, to a lesser extent, CB for the first four rounds. The only worry I have is not getting one of the better big RBs if we don't reach a little early on as I think the best fits for us will be picked between our second and third picks.
I hope the opportunities are there for us to end up with more picks before our 3rd rounder comes up. If I was in the front office, I would consider using alot of creativity with this year's picks and possibly even next year's mid rounders to either move up or down to get the guys on top of our board for the second and third rounds.
I think we can end up with at least 4 starters/significant contributors out of this draft for this season by going BPA. These contributors/starters should be a RB, G, OLB, and either DB, DT or Pass Rush Specialists, depending on who is BPA when we pick.

Okay, now I know you are intentionally making ill-advised remarks just so you can argue with somebody.
Zac Diles in the 7th
Owen Daniels in the 4th
Steve Slaton in the 3rd
Kevin Walter in exchange for a 7th Round pick
Dominique Barber for a 6th

They will go BPA in the needed position. I just don't think they will go offence for the first round when we have so much more need on defence. IMHO.

i would think that alex mack would be a good pick up in a trade down scenario...which could really happen
if you look at the names most associated with us in mocks you have:
jenkins
davis
matthews
cushing
jerry
wells
so another name that people might not be thinking of is:
rey maualuga
if demeco has truely turned down top 5 money at his position then it might be time to try and trade him and draft a replacement
same could be said of owen daniels and brandon pettigrew

Again, I plead, I beg, please, please, please stop with the garbage. Rick Smith was not here when Owen Daniels was drafted. Before you go ballistic, list ten free agent flops that Rick Smith has signed!!!!!

After seeing you whine and whine about Jarron Gilbert and the signing of Antinio Smith...I'm not sure you are that great of a conversationalist. You shoot down EVERYTHING somebody else says and replace it with an opinion of yours that you accept as the truth.
As far as OD, shoot me. The point is he has drafted extremely well in my opinion.
He may have signed Weaver and some other guts that didn't pan out to be superstars, but guess what...you can't have a team full of superstars. Yes, Weaver stunk. You can't name me a GM that hasn't endured a few bad decisions.
I know I've just successfully typed to a brick wall, so I'll just leave you with your 'thoughts'.

They just released one piece of expensive deadwood and replaced it with another more expensive piece of deadwood. $35 mil for a part timer. Brilliant!!!!

And you know this how? He played in a system that first of all went to the SB. He is going to a new system that is more aggressive and he has the same understanding of it as any rookie we draft. So why call him deadwood?

Also when they took over we were in bad shape personel wise. And almost every signing was an upgrade over what we had from C&C. Maybe not great players but at least serviceable.

I am have not a clue what direction we will be going other than I am sure they would like to trade down. I am starting to lean toward Darius Butler/Jarron Gilbert/or Mathews all after a trade down.
I am also not opposed to trading 15 for 2 2nd rounders (Browns/Pats/Miami) and maybe they would throw in a 4 or 5. I think there is as much talent in the early 2nd round as later 1st. 3 2nd round pics would be a great value.
Max Unger/Shonn Greene/ and Louis Delmas would be a great 2nd round.
We then could go:
3rd: Tyrone McKenzie
4th: Mike Wallace/Roy Miller
5th: Henry Melton

Checkout my sig and the New England trade that gets Delmas and Greene in the 2nd. I like Gilbert but after signing Antonio to such a hefty contract I think Gilbert is a no go. (A move that will most likely come back to bite them in the butt). New England gets #15 to select Rey Maualuga and the Texans gets NE #23 and NE 2nd RD #58 (1050 pts vs 1060pts).

Thats exactly what Atlanta was thinking so they traded up ahead of New England to get Lauranitias to replace Boley and Brooking. Dimitroff knows Belicheck. So now New England misses out on Maualuga and Lauranitias, I don't think so. Especially when they have all that ammo to move up.

lol what are u talking about. you act like its already happened. Falcons wont trade up. they arent gonna lose picks to fill one more spot on D. and they are expected to grab brandon pettigrew first..if they don't get Tony Gonzalez

yeah well falcons dont need a LB that bad...im sure they can wait a few more turns.. they already got mike peterson from the jaguars...now they will prob go for speedy LB's for outside. but trading up for them wouldnt be the thing to do. the falcons are pretty much like us. good offense...horrible defense...they just had a better running game basically...but not by much. and we both have good RE's...abraham and williams...

Amobi Okoye fell to us unexpectedly. Porky and I both got Duane Brown last year on the TT boards.

And yes I am a huge Alex Mack fan. I have been talking about him for a while now. I brought Mack up to LZ in his blog but he doesn't think the Texans will go that direction at least at 15 which I sort of agree with. But a trade down and I would knab him. Even at 15 he is almost a sure thing so if all the good defensive players are gone then I would take him or Moreno whoever grades out higher.
