weird how all of the other teams except for Oakland and Houston go BPA.
ok. I'm done. won't say another word about our first. I think that sums it all up.

Ah the Raiders are out their minds. Our FO is cautious. So cautious that we are a little gun shy at times. I am not a big fan of the Cushing pick, but it is done. With Jenkins gone I was out of it.

I dont think we reached but was Cushing really the highest rated player on our board for LBs and on our board in general? I dont know.

Who was rated higher? Also you forgot the colossal Kansas City reach.

Big hitter, sure tackler, not great is pass coverage... If he gets to Manning once it will be worth it. He's supposed to be a hard worker and ferocious on the field.
We really don't have somebody that other teams are afraid to get hit by.

How about Josh Freeman early in the 1st.

I wouldn't say we reached for Cushing at all. He was expected by many to be the first of the USC LB's off the board. I'm just fine with the pick and look forward to him playing for us. We can't trot out DeMeco, an aging vet and a 7th rounder and feel 100 percent comfy with that.

I think this was a good pick considering where we had needs. I think our most pressing needs were DB and OLB. We would have reached on any of the corners available, and we took the best OLB left. We picked for need, but we got a darn good player in the process. This guy started for 4 years on one of the best defenses in the country. I would say that makes him a pretty impressive pick.

I am done talking about Cushing - already expressed that I think he is average, meaning nothing special.
Anyway, does this sound like we went BPA in the first? "Brian is the kid we targeted all along," defensive coordinator Frank Bush said. "Targeted" is code word for going with the guy you wanted, not neccesarily with the BPA.

Of course we didnt go BPA. If we did, we woulda, coulda, shoulda went with a guy like Wells or Maclin or whoever else was available at the time. They probably meant BPA at the LB position which some would argue is Cushing (at the spot we picked)

Yea - BPA.....at one position. I hope he stays healthy and is the player the front office thinks they drafted. I have my doubts that he can have any more impact than Diles can. His highlight film is full of gang tackling and down field ankle tackles smattered with an occasional great play. I am sure the front office has done 100 times more evaluation of him than I have but there is a lot to be desired. Heck, I remember when Vince Young made him wiff on several plays in the rose bowl.
Very frustrating to not go BPA PERIOD!! I am certain that several offensive players were ranked higher at our pick.
What happens when Barwin wins the starting job at SAM?
just my own opinion of course.

Yeah I wouldnt doubt that but nothing we can do. Cushing is gonna have to impress the fans or else he wont be a popular person here in Houston. I see a lot of people having their doubts about the first 2 picks including myself.

I would have went Everett Brown in the first and Sean Smith in the second. But If we address the DB's and land a backup RB tomorrow It will still be a good draft. Cushing will be a beast. Honestly, the only knock on him is injury possibility, and rumors. The Barwin pick is pure potential. Kollar will mold him and he'll be a "Jared Allen"type within 2 years. I like what they're building. :D

We are this draft, and maybe one more away from truly being able to take BPA. We need to drastically improve the defense and be established as a winning team before we can do that. Until then, we have to take BPA at a need position.

At the bottom of the page it states that we could draft Michael Johnson at #15 if he had a good combine (which he did.) He's currently heading into the third round.

had me laughing out loud!
Heck, I remember when Vince Young made him wiff on several plays in the rose bowl. You do realize he was a true freshman starting on a team in the BCS championship game? With comments like you make, it only reinforces my belief the Texans FO know what they are doing.

i am glad my comments reinforce your belief in the Texans FO. I too believe in our FO - even if they don't nail every pick or FA signing. :)

I love both these picks and from watching Smith's pre-draft presser. He was clearly looking for speed and aggresiveness on defense and mentioned getting a "hybrid" as he called it player who can lineup at the end and push antonio smith inside on a heavy pass rush package. going bpa i think you get that with barwin.
We now have the best linebacking corp in the NFL, agreed?
Do we keep 7 cause I wanna hang on to Chaun Thompson. Diles, Demeco, Cushing, Adibi, June and Bentley.
We'll definately take a CB tomorrow. Uncertain about RB cause Smith thinks Chris Brown could take the role of the 3rd down power back.

I won't say we have the best LB core yet. Ever heard of a team called the seahawks
