Jets move up to take Shonn Greene. That will disappoint a few Texans fans.

I think the Texas will address power back in the 4th or 5th with the RB from Colorado state Gartrell Johnson

Been saying this for awhile now & it looks more-n-more realistic. I hope we really do get this guy. Remember fellas, its not bout names on 2nd day, its all bout the fit. Who is the best fit for our football team in these later rnds.

Neo

Rashad Johnson may be there when we pick

B.Diddy
04-26-2009, 09:26 AM
I hope Sanchez Starts the first game lol but the thing that scares me about shonne Greene is he reminds me alot of maurice Jones Drew when he was in college short low center of gravity built like a tree stump

johndoe

If rashad johnson and and andre brown are both available when we pick, I think we go Brown

TransplantTexan1
04-26-2009, 09:30 AM
The knock with Greene is that he isn't a particularly good receiver out of the backfield. I like his size, though, and he looks very much like a pure running back (think a more svelte version of Ron Dane).

Neo

Ron Dane
I want to vomit now, thanks for brining up that name.

God I hope not! Jennings and Andre Brown are way better than Gartrell. He is slow and has been falling in draft boards more and more each day. The only way we dont pick a RB this round is if Rashad Johnson falls to us...and we might even do it with him there.

Look for Andre Brown here

If we take Andre Brown here, I would love to pick up Donald Washington outta OSU and Terrance Taylor the DT outta Michigan.

If we get Rashad Johnson here, I wouldn't mind one of the previous people I just mentioned and Rashand Jennings

not a surprise pick to me, with taking 2 defense players in the first rounds. Biggest weakness on offense was the interior lineman not named Pitts.

Jack Texan
04-26-2009, 10:03 AM
Nice pick. O-line, D-line wins championships. I show Caldwell to be the number 2 center in this draft; and he can play guard too. He,s big, strong: 6-3 1/2, 307 lbs.

fdknuckles
04-26-2009, 10:04 AM
From what I've read, he's a good run blocking center that isn't used to pulling traps

TK_Gamer
04-26-2009, 10:04 AM
well I wanted them to upgrade C, most of the sacks we gave up late in the year were right up the middle (C,RG) I'm just surprised they passed up Brown. I like the pick though. we seriously need one of the 4th round picks to be a big corner or safety because the selection is gonna start getting really thin after this round. The good news is there are still several good power backs availible as late as the 6th round.

fdknuckles

ok so now that we have a big center, what are our most pressing needs? I think its still complimentary back and safety. I thought we were going to select one of those two in round 3 but didnt work out that way...who do you think will still be available in round 4??

He is a little heavier than Myers according to the stats, but not much.

I agree but because i think it was 10 to 15 teams saw him blow it up at his Pro-Day. It made him drop from a 4th or 5th to what i predicted a 3rd, but even i wss wrong, and he went in the second. Here is what NFL.com likes and Dislike about this guy

Positives: Adequate height and very solid overall build for a corner or free safety. ... Has the strength to jam on the line. ... Likes contact, will bring his hips and wrap up in the open field. ... Good awareness, reads screens, play action and misdirection. ... High-points the football and had good hands for the interception. ... Breaks up passes by jumping routes or fighting for the ball in the air. ... Returned 10 kickoffs for 323 yards as a senior and can be dangerous running back interceptions. ... Played through pain and returned quickly from groin surgery during junior season. ... Physical runner on returns -- goes straight upfield, is willing to take a hit and can bounce off to get additional yardage.

Negatives: Some teams will grade him as a safety and cornerback "tweener." ... Does not have great straight-line or recovery speed. ... Best when attacking the play in front of him. ... Will throw his shoulder to make a hit instead of wrapping up. ... Lacks great height and vertical leap to challenge tall NFL receivers. ... Inconsistent getting off receiver blocks on the edge. ... Lacks great quickness, vision or speed on returns.

The three-year starter emerged as one of college football's elite pass coverage defenders. In addition to registering seven interceptions during the course of his last 14 games, he also established a new school career record with 32 pass deflections, becoming just the fifth player in Mountain West Conference annals to break up more than 30 passes in a career.

Quin is not only a quality deep coverage defender, thanks to his quickness and leaping ability, but he is perhaps pound-for-pound one of the strongest defensive backs in the country. While his 40 3/4-inch vertical jump set a school position record, he also earned the team Beefmaster Award in 2008 for his performance in the weight room. He put up 360 pounds in the bench, 328 in the power clean, 500 in the squat and 305 in the incline press.

At North Pike High school, Quin lettered four times in both football and basketball, earning the Jaguar's team MVP Award in both sports as a senior. He totaled 2,552 rushing yards, 224 tackles and 13 interceptions during his prep career. He also received the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete Award.

Surprisingly, those impressive prep numbers did not draw the attention of major college recruiters, so Quinn enrolled at Southwest Mississippi Community College in 2004. He appeared in two games before suffering a right arm fracture that would sideline him the rest of the campaign. He returned to action in 2005, as the cornerback returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown, adding eight pass deflections and 40 tackles (29 solos).

Quin enrolled at New Mexico in January, 2006, in time to compete for a starting job during spring drills. He took over left cornerback duties, earning All-Mountain West Conference honorable mention. He deflected 13 passes, fifth-highest on the school single-season record list, as he also totaled 63 tackles (37 solos) with two stops for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 13 contests.

A 2007 groin injury in August camp continued to get worse early in the season, as Quin was forced to undergo surgery after the second game. He was still named All-MWC honorable mention, as he started nine games. He produced 40 tackles (25 solos) with a pair of interceptions, as he also broke up eight other tosses.

Quin picked up All-MWC first-team recognition in 2008. Despite being bothered by a knee injury that required surgery after the season, he had 53 tackles (33 solos) that included 4.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage. He batted down 11 balls and led the conference while ranking tied for 19th in the nation, intercepting five passes.

Pick Analysis: New Mexico always produces one or two guys each year who play well. Quin was a three-year starter and has good speed and jumping ability. He's got confidence and at this point in the draft, he brings good value. He adds depth to a Texans' secondary that has struggled to come together in recent years.

To this point in the regime, the Texan's don't use a "FS/SS" set up. they simply go right and left side just like their CB's. I think all our safeties will have to cover(zone) and tackle.

That was me, but I am wrong, I accidentally Clicked on SHAWN NELSON, which was one pick ahead of us, here is what NFL.com said about ANTHONY HILL

Positives: Tall with some strength and long arms. Presents a nice target to his quarterback on bootlegs and in zones. Physical blocking for the run and pass. Finds his target in space, can latch on and push him downfield. Fair lateral movement to stay in front of defensive ends on the line. Lines up in the slot and with his hand down. Uses his length and height to stretch the field. Reliable, soft hands and physical enough to push off defenders and gain yardage after the catch.

Negatives: Built like a receiver. Long strider who lacks quickness out of his stance or the speed to separate, although his height is an advantage downfield. Does not have suddenness in and out of routes, and will round them off. Fails to sustain blocks against quicker defenders in space because he does not bend his knees, has slow footwork and stiff hips. Waist-bender when blocking defensive ends on the edge. Durability concerns abound with ACL and chest injuries keeping him out over the past two seasons.

Let these guys rant and whine. They are probably the same ones that griped when we took Mario, Diles, Owen Daniels, traded for Walter, traded for Schaub. Point is the guys making these picks, this is their JOBS and lively hood and I tend to think they know alot more about football and the guys we are getting than we do or ever will. We know what Kipers and the other not so great experts tell us. And I will defer to a unanimous phrase heard around the world. " What are they thinking in Houston"? Mario is gonna be a bust. Well 3 years later..... I'll give Smith/Kubes the benefit of the Doubt.

Great post, Its funny because most of these people only show up here on draft day or free agent signing period to rip the texans and then leave.

Here is what NFL.com said about him

Pick Analysis: Hill is a big, blocking tight end with adequate speed. He is almost like having a third tackle in the game. He's probably the best blocking tight end in this draft. The Texans have the receiving tight end in Owen Daniels, and now they have the blocker to go along with him

I'd have rather kept Sage.

So they are omnipotent?

Why are people giving Kubes and Smith so much love. The best those guys have ever done is 8-8. If that is yuor definition of success you really need to rethink the meaning of the term.

Sage wouldn't have like that tho', he wanted to be a starter, and well, he wouldn't have tried if we kept him.

The are some really good players still available. I think we need to get back into this round to fulfill another one of our needs. Hill seems like a good pick, but Glover Quin over DJ Moore is very wierd. It makes me thing that the 32 teams know something that the public does not know.

Maybe we are targeting Arian Foster out of Tenn. Was a 2nd rd projection for last years draft and had a poor 2008 season with a thigh bruise. a big guy

The Colts made Mike Hart and Terrance Taylor together again. That was a good pick for them, IMO. Taylor is going to be good one day...

hey look Coogbull the emochild ruins another thread. Considering none of these guys has been given a chance on the field yet, and our FO history with finding draft gems, how about we put the pitchforks away and grow a few brain cells back.
