I am officially confused. Something is up somewhere. No way we keep 3 te's.

We have 5 TEs. Courtney Anderson(FA pickup), Clark Harris(LS), OD, Hill, and Casey. And I forgot Dreesen. 6 TEs

Casey is a goal line runner, wildcat QB, H-Back, and TE....a GREAT pick here! The NC State TE is going to be a tackle who can catch at the goal line but was drafted because he's the best blocker of all the TE's.

Casey can be an occasional running back too. (Which is why I think we got him, to utilize him on offense at multiple positions)

For the conspiracy theorists amongst you... Kubiak's son got a spot on the Rice football team ('09 recruit), despite being a middle of the road player at Strake Jesuit this season. I love James Casey -- total stud player and upright character guy -- but in my opinion this is the quid pro quo... Gives Rice some visibility locally and gives Klein Kubiak a place to continue playing...

we have 4
Owen Daniels
Joel Dreessen
Anthony Hill
James Casey
and also hybrid position player Connor Barwin
BUT WAIT... THERE'S MORE!!! If you draft a TE now, we'll even throw in another TE on the next round, FREE!

BYE BYE OWEN!
Nice to have ya!
I hope your wront cause I dont see a back that the bills have that would be worth OD other than marshawn lynch and there is no way they are going to part ways with him....
The last two picks really piss me off

Dressen and Owen just got replaced! Casey has the potential to be a STUD in our system and he plays at tight end like AJ plays wideout.
Why no Andre Brown? Are we expecting him to drop to the 6th? I am getting nervous! :)
We should be able to trade Owen for some future production now and this leads me to believe that the team feels he is a system tight end rather than a gifted talent.

It's like nobody even watches these players. Casey will probably not even line up at TE. My God - the doomsayers should check out some background on these guys first. Remember the phrase - direct snap! Geez...

I'm actually wondering if they might be looking to deal OD. We could get a good pick for him from another team and could also possible get some compensatory picks from the league???

Uh...no andre brown because he's already off the board as is gartrelle johnson....any more bright ideas for a solution for our comp back problem??

It would of made a lot more sense to do it before the draft. Kubes and Co. has this year to make a big push in onfield production. If they trade away Owen for picks next April then they're taking a huge leap of faith.
OD is safe and I'm betting that he gets paid too. Hill will play on running downs and goalline and Casey will probablly play in more of an HBack roll. This is all just speculation of course but OD is one of our best players. I seriously doubt we trade him.

I expect us to be flinging the ball around much more than pounding it. Unless we make a trade for a running back, it seems we got Hill to block for us and Casey for another pass catching TE. I'm not sure where Dreessen fits into this.

Personally, other then our first pick which was something of a need (Ryans was the only LB that would start on any of the major teams, despite great jobs done by Diles, Adibi and Benetly when they did start), all of the picks seem to really be something of future insurance.
Which when you think about it makes sense since, most of our starters ARE set.
But the DE in the second is obviously won't surplant Smith. The OG in the third (which according to one thread we got because the team's two RB prospects were gone) might be meant to take over any of the interior spots down the line given Pitts getting older and the relative roughness that Myers and Briesel had. The fourth round picks of a DB that can play safety is a good one as we need depth there, as was the picking of Hill as a solid blocking TE, since OD might not sign with us after the 2009 season, which would leave us with maybe just Dressen who we are using as a blocking TE (he's better then Daniels at blocking but he makes mistakes at some of the worst times).
I will admit picking up Casey is strange, but it goes back to the future potential, if we lose OD (which I don't think either side would want to aside from it being a money issue) then Casey might be able to step in next season. Casey could also be used as a RB/FB give his size. Either way, given the fact that Casey has only been playing football for two years, he is very flexible and could be useful to the offense down the line.
But like I said, all these picks have had so insurance for the Texans going into this season and next. Actually the first pick works in the future as well, since Diles if no longer playing SAM, could return to his original position of being a backup to DeMeco and if they are forced to let Ryans go or he is injured again, Diles can step right in.
remembered casey slicing up UH over and over, it was sickening. had a nack for making those short yardage plays. i'm sure shanahan can think of more than a few ways to use him. him and vontae sound good for a few short yardage firsts
4th and inches, Casey at qb, leach at fb, and maybe one of the two backs drops to us. just not sure how much more is needed with them two and caldwell at center

Looks like the Texans believe Brown can be our second Back. Hope it works out.

i think KUBIAK is developing a new offensive system with 4 TE,s. of course it is possible that we could trade OD, for a solid RB/FB. i just dont believe we have RB problems. EVERY1 says we do....but we really dont:D and thats why we didnt draft 1. ya have to remember that KUBIAK is an OFFENSIVE MASTER........and knows how to develop his own system into any offense he wants. the ole west coast system was gr8 for awhile, but i do see it changing along with our offense. these TE picks should let every1 know a new system in going to come into place, or new plays from KUBIAK,s playbook will be added:D...it just pumps me up more than i was....and now i am REALLY EXCITED:D
