The NFL fantasy draft kit (http://www.nfl.com/fantasy/draftkit) has this to say about our defense:

(Texans ranked 27'th, http://www.nfl.com/fantasy/story?id=09000d5d80fe4b5d&template=no-right-rail-with-comments&confirm=true)
The Texans have some skilled players on the defensive side of the football, none more prominent than Mario Williams, but this team remains an afterthought in fantasy circles. In fact, it warrants no real consideration in most 2009 drafts. (Bye: Week 10)

I've never played fantasy football, is part of the deal not researching the teams and players you pick?

I always thought they were a bunch of dorks - not unlike the Dungeons & Dragons types, but were just into Football rather than wizards, fairys & such.
Jee-sus, with all the stats on ESPN, etc., other dorks that will help you draft, tell you who to play etc.
IT'S A FRICKIN' GAME, NOT AN LIFE OBSESSION!

Good! Now I can continue to steal talent that becomes a solid fantasy producer once again. In the past... Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, Kris Brown, and Steve Slaton were all steals for me.

^^Why the hate towards people who play fantasy football? It's fun and it allows you to get really into football. It facilitates the following of other players/teams that you might not normally watch. In 2002 (When the Texans came out, no coincidence) is when I started getting really into football. I played fantasy football for the first time seriously that year, and at the end of the season, I knew of sooooooo many players on every team and it made football really all the more exciting.

Anyways, I love when they rate Texans players low on fantasy rankings so I can steal them like above said. However, the one Texan who is always elusive to me in the draft is Andre Johnson. I always want him early but everyone knows I love the Texans and have a man-crush on AJ so they grab him and usually I bite and trade. Oh well.

The Texans defense ST led certain fantasy leagues 2 weeks last year.

I think until the players we picked actually go out on the field on game day and show something, they won't amount to squat when it come to rating our defense.

Fantasy football defenses score points for sacks, ints, special teams td's and more points the less a team gives up on the scoreboard. Houston didn't really score big points in too many of those areas so the analysis is pretty spot-on.

If I were a fantasy player, I think I would consider the D more than an afterthought.

When the D was playing more aggressively late last year, the team went 5 of 6... yeah, I know, not the only factor in those wins, but I think it was a contributing one. The D is going to be playing much more aggressively this year... all year.

Mario will have a better linebacker behind him this year, and Cushing, Smith, and Barwin helping on the other end of the line should make a real difference on turnovers, sacks, etc.

With an offense in the top 4 last year, most of the emphisis this year will be on improving the D.

I am not saying we will have the #1 D in the NFL, but I sure think we have a shot at being in the top 15, not 27'th where they have us ranked. Better than an afterthought in my books.

Not a fantasy football expert, but from my understanding, it is all about big names.

So far our only proven big name contributors are Mario and DeMeco, which is why our fantasy stock in the defense is so low.

until the defense proves that they are worthy of better press or any thing else, they will get that kind of evaluation. You don't get wins and losses from these kind of predictions any way. No one knows how they will be this coming season, Sooo!!! I will be skeptical untill they prove me other wise.

Have to agree. I play and since I am a homer I always get my Texans with the last pick and believe it or not they help out more than they hurt. Use them aginst teams like the Cheifs, Broncos and so forth you get the idea and they help. They will get no love till they prove it and this might be the year fingers cross by the way I'm drunk so if anything is misspelled oh well GO TEXANSSSSSSSS.

FF is okay. iT DOES LIKE THEY SAID.. GET YOU MORE IN TUNE WITH OTHER TEAMS and such. As far as defense a good solid d can get you pretty far in FF since a good d can score 20 points and a bad d can score 1 point. Same goes witha good QB.

However the backbone to a good fantasy team is 3 or 4 solid rb's. And since they went to the 3 wr's set you have to have 2 solid recievers.

As far as the guy who wanted andre.....you have to pick him first or if you pick first or second you might get lucky and find him int he second round but andre is no secret anymore and if you want him just bite the bullet and pick himfirst and then go for two rb's and then a defense and then wr and then grab a late sleeper qb.

It's a risky adventure not grabbing a RB or one of the top Qb's inthe first but it can pay dividends if you get lucky with your other picks.

Texans Dfense...no thanks.

I'm no expert at fantasy. I've been playing for only 3 years. Lats year i made the playoffin all leagues and made it to the sb in one of 3 and lost. I was pretty lucky to have even gotten tot he playoffs since i threw away 3 weeks of ike playing texan players on week two and not having a computer for the next two weeks. I pretty much started 1-3 with all 3 teams.

The year before i played in 4 leagues...never again..lol It was just too much but i was really on top of things. I went to the sb in 3 of 4 and won 2.

My first year i had no clue what was going on and owned players with same bye weeks and wasn't prepared for the mid season injury problems and i certainly didn't prepare for the big names sitting out when they clinched a playoff spot. Tiny details that a first timer gets burned by.

I'd say that i can hold my own and give a decent competitive spirit to it and yes i was one of the few who drafted steve slaton last pick in all my teams and was laughed at and i'd even say ridiculed int he draft room.....until about week 5 when everyone was trying to get me to trade him after i drafted him and sat him ont he bench the first 3 weeks...lol

But my big score last year was DeAngelo Williams. He let me down in the playoffs but i'd never have gotten there without him. I picked him up off the weaiver wire in all 3 leagues...he was just sitting out there. I couldn't believe how lucky i was to find a gem that no one wanted ..even me..until my guys got hurt.

But for those who say it is dumb...i used to think like that too, but after giving it a whirl, i think you may find it to be a lot of fun. Just be prepared to sweat it out on home games when you don't know who to get in your line up becausethey don't announce it until the games are about to start and of course you can't change your line up from the parking lot of reliant.

The main reason i never pick Westbrook. Ha!

So far i'm not in any leagues but i've agreed to be in one. One year we started about 3 months before the draft...that was a wild league. We were trading and i think i got stuck with mendenhall on one team..lol

Dude, talk about a gem, I picked up Slaton after week 4 on the Free Agent thing, hahaha, my friend got rid of him, it was AWESOME.

To be on topicish, i might even pick our D, cause I trust in it.

he texans are usable in certain games no doubt but so far they have been far from reliable.

Yeah, those are the best...lol those trades or pick ups where someone gives up on a player...you scoop him up and all of a sudden he becomes a monster.

Get this...lol..last year a guy offered me a trade i couldn't resist. He wanted some kid rb i drafted as a hopeful and i think it was perry a rb from cincin?..i think is who he wanted and i wasn't all that high on him but get this...he wanted him so bad he offers me brandon Jacobs.....oh yeah i took the deal and that perry kid did nothing once i traded him and i guess we all know what Brandon Jacobs did every week. lol

Another memorable trade was one that never happened for me. I had a team called the johnson jack hammers and i was collection all the johnsons. I had Andre, Calvin, Larry /eric Johnson te for the saints/ but i didn't have rudi johnson and i begged this guy for him and offered him some idiotic trades and he rejected them all. Rudi went on to do nothing all year....lol And don't believe the fantasy guru files where it says you can't win with players with all the same names..i won the sb with that team and it was a hoot finding new johnsons to add to my roster. I was so hoping romo would get hurt so i could get Brad johnson. And there are no kickers named johnson but i regularly filled my line up with 2 rb/ 3 wr's and te named johnson and killed almost every week. If that guy would have traded me Rudi i wouldn't even have made the playoffs....like he didn't.

But the brandon Jacobs trade was classic because it was a trade i would offer someone knowing they would say no way but the funny part was that he offered it to me. I was like doing a double take. Then i was thinking...is there another guy int he league named brandon Jacobs who sucks....like the adrian peterson rb's. lol

I consider Fantasy football to be my life and I can tell you no one would touch the Texans defense. Most leagues are 12 teams and there are maybe 3-4 elite defenses a year and the rest of the teams just add and drop defenses each week depending on match-ups. Like last year everyone tried to get the defense that was playing the Lions that week. So the guy in that article is dead right. No one in their right mind would draft the Texans defense.

hey, i draft the texans d just about every year, with my last pick, we have to carry two d's in our league, the texans ride the pine all year, unless they have a good matchup when my real d is on bye week, otherwise they get booted for a more suitable replacement. you never know, some year or another they might breakout that can of whoopass that we've all been waiting for.

They actually might have something this year. McCain might be a surprise if he is in the return game or jones or davis, johnson, the d is gonna be aggresive maybe some pic sixes and mario and barwin antonio are gonna bring down the house and get some sacks. PLUS the offense is gonna be stellar and less turnovers so with all that added up they will be a sleeper for sure.
