View Full Version : Need some news this week

The off-season has ground to a halt. It is time for some news from our beloved Texans. Any predictions on what that news will be this week? (It needs to come from Rick Smith) I think some more of the rookies will be signed. Another possibility is for one of the big 3 "disgruntled's" to sign an extension. I hope it is Demeco. Let me know what you think.

a) At least one un-signed rookie signs a contract
b) Demeco signs an extension
c) Owen signs an extension
d) Dunta signs a new contract
e) No news this week

Isn't Owen already signed, just unhappy?

Anyway, I wouldn't be too surprised to see all the rookies signed and DeMeco made a generous extension offer in the next week to 10 days.

Dunta's situation will probably not be resolved, if at all, till close to training camp. Even if Dunta doesn't get a long term extension, I doubt he would sit out. Dunta, a word of advice if I may, take the $9 mill, have a steller year, and you will be in a much better bargaining position next year.

I believe Dunta has to sign his franchise contract before July 15, but it will not change anything. He will still likely hold out of TC and come back just before week 1.

Owen has signed his 1 year RFA contract, but wants an extension/replacement for that contract.

They really need to sign Demeco to an extension to show that when you make the pro bowl and keep coming to work, the Texans will take care of you. This would be a positive message to all of the other potential future pro bowlers on the team.

He only has to sign it by the 15th in order to be able to continue to negotiate the long term deal. If he doesn't, they have to break it off. He then can pretty much sign his F-tag when he gets around to it. IMO, it will be very telling if he doesn't sign the F-tag by the 15th. That to me says he has NO intention of coming back next year, so why bother to continue to negotiate. Just wait to the last possible moment, sign it and miss the wear and tear of TC. If he does that, I would prefer they just withdraw the F-tag and save the cap money. He won't be much use until week 3-4 at best and we still don't know how well he is back.

well, i guess we sign one of our draftees.

Hopefully we get them all signed so we know what we have left to sign a playmaker free agent on defense.

The F-tag gives the Texans and Dunta till the July 15th to agree on a long term contract. After, the 15th, they can negotiate a contract but, he has to sign the tender.

Guess all the uproar about contracts, extensions, guaranteed money, etc. ;we aren't the so called "expansion team" any longer. We are now feeling the growing pains of having good players in dealing with their wants & needs, instead of having just "average" players playing for less money than the league average.

So true.

Some of our players deserve more money. I'm not sure we have the scouting ability of say a New England who can give up talent and keep paying low to the new young bucks. I think we need to pay our proven commodities until we get our team filled and solidified with talented back ups. Then we can let some talented guys go, grab new draftees with extra picks , and keep the team strong. But until we have 11 bonafide starters on Defense and some depth..we need to keep our talent on defense. Our defense has struggled and the players we have drafted high have not played up to their potential barring a few guys. Our defense is still unproven. I think we are heading in the right direction, but i really don't think we have the defense needed to get us through the playoffs. Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised this year. You know, eventually...if we stay the course....we will have us a great defense.

Well look at it this way, in approx 30 days from now, we will have our 1st game of the season. The HOF game. Then comes pre-season games. It is getting so close now I can almost hear the pads a hitting and slamming away...:p

you know what I love, the fact that we are so much more talented all thru the roster now, it was actually difficult to decide who to cut to get down to 80. The bad part is how difficult it will be to get down to 53. I'ts a tuff situation I'll take any day.

Yeah. I was looking at the roster trying to get to 53 and it is going to be tough to let some guys go. First year that has happened.

That's a sign of a really good team.

Can you imagine where we would be at right now if we had started out with Smith and Kubes instead of CC and Co.... Win or lose, these 2 have turned around our team very quickly and right before our eyes...:)

The front office hasn't done any signings or cuts or trades or anything since 6-18. Embarassing.

ins't that what training camp is for? That doesn't even start until July 31st. I would hope they would see what the new players can do in pads before anymore are let go.

i think that just goes to show how much talent we have this year and how close some positions are in talent levls. it is gonna take more evaluation before we cut anymore players.

Sooooo true !!!!! Do wish the NFL would go to a 58/60 team roster. Don't think that 5 more players would "break the league or owners".

BTW--raise our parking again another 5 dollars and they could afford 60 man roster--LOL

Look at the talent compared to the first two/three years. Difference is daylight and dark.
This has got to be the most talented team the Texans will field yet.
I an sooooo looking forward to this season and some serious butt kicking.
