Interesting article on how Chris Johnson and Steve Slaton will forever be intertwined with each other, pretty good too.

Sounds like only one is "team oriented" the other seems to be worried more about letting everyone know that he is the man.
Glad we got the one with his head screwed on straight.
Plus we got him in the 3rd round! What a deal!

I am just scared that he will be the next Olandis Gary, cause gibbs while in Denver would get a 3rd round back, and then, waalaah 1,000 yards.
then the next year.........crap.
every time I think about it, I get really scared.
I REALLY REALLY hope, in fact I wish everyday that Steve does good again and Chris just does mediocre.

i am a little surprised that Matt Forte isn't even mentioned. I think those 3 will be compared to each other as they build their nfl resumes.
Good read!

Forte was used A LOT. His avg was much less, and had almost as many yards as Slaton just due to the amount of carries he was getting.

When Marshal Faulk is comparing SS to himself, then that is a sure thing. The only reason Slaton was a 3rd round pick is because his ball security questions, if he would have came out a year early he would have been a 1st round back.
We got a steal, Smith and Co have proved they know how to draft, now the question is can they keep the players when dealing with contracts and such.

Ya they will all most likely be compared to each other like the famous WR draft class that produces Terry Glenn, T.O., Joe Horn, Marvin Harrison and several others. In this circumstance the comparison between these two has even more significance because, if the teams can hold on to these guys like they should, they will be in the same division for a long time.

We were dang fortunate to be able to steal Steve in the 3rd round. Just imagine where we would be now if he wasn’t on our team...we would be going into camp with Chris Brown as our #1.
The more I hear about Chris Johnson the more I don't like him. Hopefully he runs his mouth a lot this year and causes a lot of friction in Tennessee’s locker room!

If Slaton and Johnson turn out to be great football players in the future, it will be fun to be one of those teams that has one of the better RB's in the league. ALMOST a Tom Brady / Peyton Manning match that happens each year only for us it is twice a year. And that could mean more primetime games. Also just makes for a fun game to watch as they both try to out-do one another.
Edit: Wow 1,000 post on these forums. Go me. :p

I believe that one of the reasons Slaton fell to the third round was because of the issue of size and his ability to be the featured guy. He somewhat answered the question of durability last year but one of my concerns was the way that the linemen come up to assist him when he gets stood up. Kind of reminds me of how Duanta got injured.
If the linemen are going to come in there to push the pile forward they should keep their heads up so that they can hit the defense, not Steve.

we know he can play in this league, now just have to get his snaps down to around 15 to 20 a game so he doesnt end up like DD.

Actually, if I am correct Steve Came out as a junior, soooo, he couldn't have come out early...haha.
I know we are not a spread offense, but the circumstances he runs in are about the same, the defense is mainly worried about our pass, so doesn't have tons of people looking for a run.
dbruder44, I didn't wanna repost, but, we were 5-0 with him having 20 carries, so we should get him at least 19 carries a game.

Steve carried the ball 16.75 times a game (268 carries) last year with a low of 4 (baltimore game) and a high of 26 Packers game not sure what you are talking about I would like to keep him in that 250-275 carry range also

I am about 99.9% certain that he meant "a year earlier" meaning after his huge success the year prior. We drafted him after a lull in his play that had some teams scared he lost a step and would never be more than a system back.
I for one had big hopes for him the day his name was called.

Yup, that is one MONSTER year! If he had a repeat of those numbers Slaton would have gone first round. I think the big concern was that SLaton needed to stay in college one more year to establish himself and that a number of teams were concerned he knew he had lost what he had. As a fan I was hoping that he had a 1 year slump and that he would revert back to his prior form.
Now lets watch him as he continues to grow after his proven success in the league!!! :D

Yeah, because Crabtree came out as a junior, so did our very own James Casey... Know what you are talking about before you say things, it keeps you from looking like a fool.
Dude what are you saying you can't come out as a Freshman or Sophomore in the NFL you must be three years separted from your high school graduation, Slaton came out as a Junior so he could not have come out any earlier.

I'm talking about the tendency to overwork a good young RB. I wasn't implying that he had huge carry numbers last year, just that we need to make sure that doesn't happen.

Well you wont have to worry about that cause we got three dynamic playmakers in walter, daniels, and johnson, and there's plenty of football to be spread around.

Fantasy Football 08... I drafted SS in my 4th round, a opp. (DayMan) said who is Slaton. I told him, Have U seen him run? & that he was gonna be the next big thing from the Texans when Green goes down, as he did in the first part of the season, I knew he was gonna step up. My jaw was dropping all of pre-season watching him. I sent DayMan an eMail after I won my Yahoo League & introduced him to Steve Slaton once again.. & Owen Daniels if he had forgotten him too... lol.. needless to say, he was not so Happy.... Lets do it again Steve!!!

No body took steve in any of my 4 leagues last year. But yeah...once he started playing i got tons of offers for him...like i would trade a guy i drafted and sat on my bench for 4 weeks..lol
There was no one seeing Steve except texan fans. I would like to see what his fantasy draft numbers were but i'd be surprised if it was higher than 2% of the leagues drafted him last year. We were the few who had the guts and vision to take a chance on him but i was laughed at in one league when i picked him last. Who's laughing now huh.lol
I have a feeling ole Steve won't be very easy to come by this year as he is ranked in the top 5 or 10 fantasy backs.

Better get a god draft order when my league starts up this year.... At least he wasn't on Madden 10 football cover, would have hated to see him get the Madden Curse... lol...
