Rookies are supposed to report for camp this Sunday on the 26th, and neither of our first three picks has signed on the dotted line. Im getting nervous, I know training camp doesnt officially start to the 31 and if they arent signed by then i will move from nervouse to scared.
I would like to see all our rookies in by the 26th to get those few extra days for meetings or whatever.

If memory serves correctly we normally have all the contract stuff done early. Is it the economy or Smith tightening the belt

I think Okoye and Duane Brown were signed the morning of the first day so they got there late. I know that was the case with Brown. Ther have been a number of second round signings so Caldwells deal should be locked in, and Barwins should be all but locked in. I'd expect to hear about them tommorow and Maybe have Cushing signed Sunday.
Just checked Rotoworld only a 4th for somebody signed today, I'd expect the wire to go crazy this weekend with signings.

Apparently that didn't happen seeing as rookie camp started yesterday and they haven't posted anything about the others getting signed yet.

We will probably read about the new signings here on the blog before HT.com posts anything new..... lol... They are not real speedy it seems on numerous Headlines... But we will see, The General had a good report on 610 this morning & said most everyone should be taken care of before the official start of TC on Friday.
This just in from HT.com: Up there under Transactions....

Rookie camp is different from training camp and it doesn't mean that negotiations are stalled. I am certain they will be signed by Friday and ready to suit up.

Can unsigned rookies attend Rookie TC? If they can't, then contracts should have been worked out before Rookie TC began, not regular TC. I know it's only 5 days difference but they could use those 5 days to learn terminology.

No player would risk getting hurt at camp before signing a deal. It is common among the nfl for top picks not to get signed until the last day before camp begins or even miss the first practice. The teams would love to sign them earlier but since very few first round picks have signed, there isn't really a contract to bargain based off of. Don't worry though, nothing really goes on until camp actually starts. These guys are studying their playbooks whether they are at camp or not.

Then what's the point of having a Rookie TC? If all they do is show up and sit on their *** (the one's who've signed), why not just say TC starts July 31st?
ETA: I'm not asking because I don't know. I'm asking because it seems like a waste of time if they don't really do anything.

When did they ever say anything about there even being a rookie TC. I could be wrong but all they ever said was that rookies reported 7/26. They never said it was a rookie TC. There is a lot that will be thrown at these rookies over the next 4 or 5 months and as I understand it, they just bring them up to par with the way things work, watch some tape, and study the playbook.

With about 48 hours or so til TC, do you think Cushing is a holdout? Yes I know we've always had our picks signed but I think this year is different from years past, not only for us but for the whole NFL. Only 5 draft picks have been signed. As for Cushing, a good point has been brought up by some, I cant see him signing if no one else in the 13-20 range or his area in general has been signed.
So I ask you, what's your take? Does he follow the trend and get signed in time on the morning/afternoon of TC, does he holdout if no else in his area signed, does he sign anyways if no one else has signed, and if he does holdout, is it one day, two days, etc? Then again, even if he does miss the first day, I dont think that will hurt him too much, though at the same time, he needs to be there.

I think they will all be signed in the next day and all show up for camp.
Each day they implement something...when you miss...they are not going to rehash it just for the hold out guy. They all need to be in camp from day one and especially Cushing , since he is starting.

Rookie camp is not the same as TC. As I understood it, this is a time for them to sit at a table learning plays and about their new organization they work for. I always thought it was exactly the same as what the NFL does for them as a whole and you can see their stuff on NFL network. They get together with the other rookies and people talk to them about how they should make the right choices.
I never thought the rookies did anything physical for the days prior to the team starting their actually TC, it was time for the coaches to prep them to succeed. Nick would probably be the person to ask though, he has the inside info for all this sort of stuff.

Rookie camp started the 26th and vets on the 31st. Since we haven't heard anything about Cushing missing mon-Tues- and today..i think it is safe to say he will show up regardless, however when the 31st camp starts they wear pads and begin the hitting. So he may not want to risk injury until he is signed.

For Cush and his agent, it will boil down to what the other 1st rounders are doing. If a lot of the guys around his slot haven't signed they may not make it as the agent will want to deliver a max contract for his slot. If he didn't the other agents would use it against him next year when they are trying to get guys going into the draft to sign with him. I expect that Barwin will be in on time though.

Which is exactly why there needs to be a Rookie Salary Cap in place. It's the same ridiculous drama every year with the first rounders. Please don't anyone tell me that a first rounder can't live the rest of their lives on the guaranteed money if they manage it right.

Alex Mack, pick #21, has signed with the Browns.
Brian Cushing, pick #15, should have some sort of starting figure to work with. Well, his agent should.

I thought they had to buy some of us fans a steak dinner once they sign that multi-million dollar contract. I guess it doesn't hurt to dream every once in awhile. They will get deals done before or at the time of training camp. Why would any of these guys hold-out? It's not like any of them aren't trying to make the team. None are sure shots or a QB, RB, or a WR...:p

I'm pretty sure tomorrow will be a busy day for the front office. We might not hear anything solid until Saturday, but I would be surprised if it went past this weekend. I think we will finally here some news on the Drob/Daniels/Demeco situation also. I think basically agents are trying to use any bit of perceived leverage and get every last penny /incentive taking it right down to the 11th hour. I think its mostly pointless posturing since rookie contracts are bracketed and restricted and if you are not one of the top 5 picks you get basically 1% up or down from your closest draft slot.

Haha....yeah. Notice I said manage it RIGHT! Most of these guys pick clowns they know who don't have their "clients" best interest at heart. It's amazing how many people are absolutely CLUELESS when it comes to finances.

NFL.com reports that Orakpo signed at 13 so that gives us a ballpark figure to work with for Cush and Barwin, since he is a DE.
Also, Clay Matthews has signed and he was the next LB picked after Cush. They say that it is undisclosed, but Im sure they will be able to get the info they need to have him here on time.
