That is the most ridicules thing ever. Obama should bail him out!!! Wait. Obama only bails crooks out. Sorry Burress. If only you committed a real crime like stealing money from people instead of SHOOTING YOURSELF!

GO TEXANS!!!

....you forgot to mention the possession of a deadly weapon (in a public place). That ******* got what he deserved.

I'm sick of pro athletes getting special treatment from our flawed legal system simply because of who they are and how much money they make. Maybe Plaxico will turn out to be the example of what will happen if you act like an ***** and break the law in the NFL.

Obama joke aside. I think the punishment didn't fit the crime. He didn't get special treatment. In fact, because he is an athlete, he was made an example of. Not fair. Punish him the way you would anybody else. That's fair.

I agree, he could have just as easily killed somebody in his immediate area when that gun discharged, it just happen to be some extra ironic justice that he shot himself but it could have been anyone in that bar and someone could have died.

just think what a pansy he is going to sound like when he goes to prison. " Hey man, what are you in for?"
" I shot myself in the leg"
"hahahaha bend over sally"

No he did not get made an example of. He was offered this deal when charged on a crime that if he had gone to trial would have carried a minimum sentence of 3 years. He declined it and went to the grand jury where he essentially admitted everything. Many prosecutors would have taken the offer off the table but this one did not and let him change his mind and take the original offer. You may not like the law but that was the risk he decided to take when he chose to break it.

Not really now.......... It's easy to shoot other people, but you got to be hardcore to shoot yourself! I don't think anyone will be messing with Plax.

If Buress would have acted a fool and danced around this thing the whole time insteand of manning up paying restitution to the victim he may have got alot less. Buress just as easily could have killed an innocent bystander just because he shot himself the charge would be the same

Kill a man who is being negligent while drunk - 30 days.

Violate a possession law with a mandatory sentence - 2 years.

That would be more accurate, but in any event different states, different laws.

He should have been playing for the Cowboys. Gun laws are alot less strict here in Texas.

You always have to be right, don't you? Stallworth ended someone's life. That scumbag shouldn't be a free man. I also hope Plaxico is in prison for at least 18 months. He'll probably get the final 6 months off for 'good behavior'. Someone needs to be made an example of so this nonsense doesn't happen again.

Plaxico should also think about changing his position while in prison to Tight End. There will be a lot of happy fellas in there singing the song "I'm Going In" when they see a millionaire walk through the doors.

He was a little bit of a target so Mayor Bloomberg could posture as a crime fighter. If he wasn't high profile the Mayor would never have gotten involved. He is in his prime and if this ends his career there is a financial cost of tens of millions of dollars. The NFL commissioner sort of telegraphed his feelings that it was an excessive punishment by stating Buress will be able to play THE MOMENT he is released from jail - no probation. I think something like 6 months jail (wiping out his season), a lengthy probation and a stiff fine would have been plenty sufficient to make an impression on Plaxico and the rest of the league But anyone desiring a pound of flesh got it.

Yep, the laws need to be revised and it shouldn't matter how much money you make, break the law, you get the same punishment across the board. You have to think about the consequences. Stallworth should have gotten at least 5 years in prison.

No the laws do not need to be revisited. The local jurisdiction has the right to make the law and establish sentencing guideline, that's State rights.
