I replayed it to make sure I heard it right, but at 2:08 into the video, the reporter asks Demeco about working with Frank Bush. During his response Demeco says "When we start laying out our real defensive plan, when we start blitzing every play".
It makes you wonder how much of the defense we have actually seen so far in the 2 preseason games, and how much Bush is holding his cards to his chest. As much as we fans have been critical of the defensive performance against the Saints, and the team leadership took responsibility for it, I wonder if they are just publicly accepting blame, while behind closed doors they are blowing it off because of the basic defenses they have been showing on the field for the cameras. When you think about it, it makes alot of sense. Frank Bush is a new coordinator. Our opponents at this stage dont know what he is going to do. Now I'm not trying to turn it into an excuse or say the inability to stop the run against the Saints was just a ploy, but theres alot of value to leaving your opponents thinking your defense is no better than before, then dropping the royal flush on them when the season starts.

Well you know they are holding something back in preseason. How much I don't know. You have to believe they will blitz more when its for real. I hope to see Dirty Sanchez get flushed and flattened a lot when the Jets come to town.

If they're going to hold back, then they better have the ability to "flip the switch on" come Week 1. You always gotta fear of it carrying into the reg. season. But we'll see.

To follow up on this, I heard a very good point on the radio. Every defenive play on Saturday was ran under the standard 4-3. Absolutely nothing exotic. Why would the Texans want to show anything to the Jets on film? The Jets are starting a rookie QB and he'll have nothing to study our defensive with. No film with looks from our new Defensive Coordinator. Why would they want to show the Jets anything??? I totally agree.

another telling sign is during Kubiak's speech(and I dont know how anyone cant get excited after that, the guy just comes across as brutally honest), Gary kept mentioning how their job was to get ready for the Jets and thats what they were focused on, never mentioned the Vikings, or the rest of the preseason or anything.

i sure hope all i,m hearing is right....:) it sure would be nice if this was all true. and that our NEWD is the total blitz package, just waitin for preseason to end:D....but when we defeat the jets by not allowing a TD:D, every1 in the NFL we see what we did anyway:D

Everything you said about the defense I agree with as a very good possibility but this statement has to be a cold hard fact!

The coaches' and fans' reactions to it suggested strongly that this was the case too - they said the right words, but none of them seemed shaken or flustered or surprised. I didn't get the impression that anybody was worried. I'm hoping that it was just a basic, filtered down training exercise. Running the absolute most basic packages we have so that our aggressive, hard hitting D is a complete surprise to Rex Ryan and the Jets.
That would also explain why there was no aggression shown by the guys last week. There was some fire in the Chiefs game, but nothing at all against the Saints.
Hmmmmm ....
