demeco was a beast..mario was too and duane brown suprised me. he held allen pretty well in my opinion and the espn guys had praise for him as well and i loved when he got in edwards face after he kicked pitts
DeMeco was great tonight. Still wish he would have taken Favre out. You don't pull that sh@t. He's been in the league too long not to know that was a cheap shot.

i like the fact we were constantly in the back-field. Amobi and Barwin looked good getting in the back field as well.
Amobi showed me he actually still has the burst and hes gonna break out of the slump this season. I like the fact we blitz ALOT today.

I thought that after that first run, we did OK. Smith is a freakin waste of money though. I did not see hom do anything well at all, and our other tackle (not Amobi) stunk it up as well. I thought our outside linebackers were AWFUL- too slow and can't tackle.
Offensively, I thought our line played well on pass plays, but we cant run block for anything.

What game were you watching?
Pass rush we did ok but we lack discipline and our secondary flat out sucked at tackling, 2 people cant take down Percy Harvin? I saw a lot of hats flying around (good) but very little wrapping up (bad) even adibi at times just tried to lower the boom and not wrap up.
Our D line needs better recognition if you can get to the QB too easily slow down you are being set up. outside of Demeco our backers need to get off blocks. that is partly due to the aggressive D line, they let the oline get to the next level. if the D line men is ree the o linemen has picked up another defender.
it bugs me the 2 tds were both big plays. big plays because of overpursuit and poor tackling. those are game killers. outside of our pro bowlers I didnt see much to get excited about. I thought they fought but they need to address the fundamentals which pains me to say because at the NFL level you should be all about fundamentals.

Yeah, they should have tackled Adrian Peterson better... ....
...
The Percy Harvin was a fluke
The D line looked wonderful in pass rush getting ample pressure.
The Run stopping was a problem, but we also held Peterson to 25 yards on 9 carries of something like that.
The wrapping up was bad. But we have pressure and we have aggression. If we play as good of defense as we did today we will win a lot of games.
As long as punk *** stays healthy.

Agreed - Demeco, Mario, and D Brown were the stars tonight. Outside backers were terrible - although Adibi had a good knock down and a hurry that he got unjustly flagged for. Other than those plays, I didn't see anything out of the starting OLBs. Secondary is horrible. We must have the worst safeties in the NFL. They can't tackle. Period. Glover Quin looks like he is lost out there half the plays. A. Smith is only slightly better than Weaver. how much are we paying him? not worth it!
Offense was ok although Schuab hurts himself running out of bounds???!!! WTF.
The sky is not falling - we just ain't as good as advertised. Definitely need a couple of more smart drafts to have any hope to run the gauntlet.

Demeco ..wow. I've rarely seen a mlb play like he did tonight. It was awesome watching him. Can you say future pro bowler/fall of famer?

I agree, and particularly about Duane (DeMeco was an obvious standout and Mario's merely Mario: aloha-oyeee!!). I was really encouraged to see Duane's movement, his tenacity and his composure. Jared Allen beat him inside a couple of times and he never quit on the play, moved his feet, maintained his pad level up against Allen's shoulder and rode Allen out of the pocket so that the QB could step up and make a clean release.
That is excellent work by any LT, including a guy in his second year, and I hope it's an example of the DB we'll be seeing all season.

woo woo people are getting ahead of themselves Demeco a pro bowler haha i love my texans but it was just one game i hope he does that every single game. You guys have said the right stuff though everyting makes sense, from the OLB's sucking and the safeties. I notice thought that the corners were doing good espcacially McCain and Bennett. Bennett was swatting balls and McCain gave a nasty lick. I felt like the Inside Linemen were sucking at run blocking and somewhat at pass pro.

I think Duane Brown looked like an All Pro, the season will tell, but the genius of Gibbs might have finally brought us that franchise left tackle.

Thought the pass rush was good from the four down lineman. Antonio Smith seemed to be coming off the edge hard, and on Mario's sack play actually forced Favre back up in the pocket (plus almost knocked the ball out of his hand).
The secondary is always going to be a worry but we didn't give up any long pass plays, most were underneath or dump offs to the TE.
Overall it wasn't a disaster like some people are making out. One series which i was thrilled with, was the way our D responded when put on there own 25 yard line after Schaubs interception. How many times have we seen teams just waltz into the endzone when given that field position on us? We held them to a field goal. Not too shabby.
Tackling needs to be emphasized, and seems to have been a problem for so long now....you really hope they open there eyes and just tell them to wrap up and stop attempting 'highlight hits'. Not to annoy anyone on this board, and i completely understand that the game of rugby is very different to American Football, but coming from someone who is half english, half american and has played both sports i don't think it would do any harm if the players were taught to wrap up like they do in rugby. Please please don't take offense by this, i am merely saying that i think sometimes the pads these players wear makes them feel like they have to knock the ****** out of people when 9/10 it is more appropriate to merely stop the guy by wrapping up.
Let just hope the injuries sustained by Walter, Schaub and Wilson are just little knocks and don't linger.

WTF.
Adibi was disappointing. Diles will be starting at WLB this season and he showed flashes the other night.
Our secondary though ... man. What the crap happened to Eugene Wilson?! He was awful. He didn't even attempt to tackle and there was at least two plays he should have broken up where he just fell down.
I'm hoping he's just trying to lull our regular season opponents into a false sense of security.
McCain was around the play a lot though. I thought he looked okay.
Yes, Smith has been extremely disappointing given how much we're paying the guy, but it's still very early days yet. I think he'll improve as the season goes on.
A bright spot for me was Arian Foster. I thought Chris Brown looked unbelievably slow and ponderous, but Foster had a bit of zip to his play and really did show up in pass protection. Yes, he was playing against the second stringers, but they're a pretty good set of second tier guys.
And of course the obvious ones: DeMeco was unreal, Mario was his usual self and Duane Brown manhandled one of the best DEs in the league all day long.
The sky is not falling - we just ain't as good as advertised. Definitely need a couple of more smart drafts to have any hope to run the gauntlet.
A bit of an overreaction, I think. I still think we're playoff bound this year. No-one ever said it was going to be a cakewalk, after all ...

You werent watching Smith very well then, just because he didnt get a sack doesnt mean he wasnt getting very good penetration and collapsing the pocket, because he was. Also Diles and Adibi combined for 9 tackles. Adibi was to blame for the early TD run, but after that, they played well. The 'other' tackle to start the game was Cody, who drew high praise from Kubiak after the game.

the tackling was poor in the secondary, but there was plenty to be excited about. They forced a top5 rushing offense to punt 6 times and allowed only 2 scores. They only blitzed 5 times in the first half total, I would expect that to ramp up in the regular season. People are focusing so much on the big play and the score to see the progress that was made from one week to the next. We were 1 score behind and our starting QB only played 1 half. The d line accounted for 13 tackles and 3 sacks. Theres alot of improvement there.

Im not sure what OLBs you were watching because Diles was solid and Adibi had a couple monster hits. Adibi blew the first play of the game, but they settled in quite nicely after that. There were several plays Diles made in the backfield or at the line of scrimmage stretching the field.

wow I could pretty much disagree with your entire assessment. Anyone who says Smith sucks, wasnt watching him at all. He was pushing that tackle back all night. Wilson did get stupid lazy on that play to Chester Taylor, but overall is around the ball ALOT and a solid hitter. If you thought Brown didnt look good: A. he ran against the #1 rush defense, B. He always got positive yardage and fought to fall forward, never getting pushed back. Thats what you ask of your power runner. Foster played 1 series and most likely wont make the team.

I think the part about hall of famer that is in question, I 've to agree that that is too soon. You have to play at a very high level for a long time to get into hall of fame specially as a LB.
And what the hell is a "fall of famer"?:p
But he didn't quote that part..just the pro bowl part.
I think he has every chance of making the hall of fame if he continues to play like he does. But we have to win a super bowl for him to even have a chance as you say, lb-ers in the hof are few.
