So I was talking with my wife last night and I told her I couldn't wait to see Cushing play tonight. She mentioned that on the News they said Cusing would be missing the Tampa Bay game, which is contrary to what I had heard directly from Kubes and McClain during the preseason.

Did my wife get bad info or is Cushing really missing out on some quality playing time prior to the season?

I am hoping my wife was just screwing with me, because I really need to see Cushing take the field prior to the Jets opener! I gues sif he is missing it gives him 1 more week to heal, but I am not comfortable with Cushing getting his first NFL play time during a live game. :(

per NFL.com, no injuries reported as of 10:31am cdt. Kubes did say he was game time decision.

Thanks for the link.

I am getting tired of local coverage because they do not seem to be plugged in to Texans news. When Cushing got injured they, I think it was ABC, said he was out indefinatly and gave the impression he could be out for the season.

Should local news know all the details of player injuries? :(

Edit: I just noticed that there is a "complete Injury" list on the link you gave and it shows no injuries either. I know we have a number of injuries so maybe the team does not have to report them for preseason.

Anyone else have any other news or word on the street about CUshings chance of playing tonight? If he is a game time decision I think is still better than him holding out until the Jets game to get his first taste of action.

I could have sworn he was being held out this game, but I'll have to go back any look at the Kubiak quotes.

Local news reporting is bad all over America now. Sports or News.

BC said the other day that he was 100% but wasn't going to play because he could get another ten days rest and thats what the coaches wanted for him. I think it was in the Chronicle. I personally think it is a good idea to rest him, than to take the chance of him getting chopped down by a buy who will be moving furniture nest week.

As a rookie missing so many preseason games...I think Cushing wont be a major impact until a few games after the season starts.

I dunno he was a 4 year starter at USC so nothing is too big for Cush, he has been studying and watching the defense, I think he may suprise and make some big plays on the 13th......

I think not playing also negates opposing teams to have any film or game tape on him so it could be advantageous

He's in camp, absorbing Frank Bush's scheme, getting to bond with his teammates, and also learn to take his game planning to a professional level these the staff. I really have no problem other than rust, but sometimes I think rust is a bit overrated.

Remember, he had a sprain knee. People don't really understand that any type of sprain, there is always a tear. His was claimed to be just "wear" from all the work. If that really is true, then Cush sitting out all the way to the opener, that is fine as long as he's keeping his cardio up so he's not winded.

Of course, with that said, I do hope the training staff has kept a watchful eye on him, b/c outside of healing and rehabbing, you don't want him to be hitting the weights and doing things too hard, not allowing a chance for the ligaments in that knee to full heal and strengthen.

I was a bit worried when they drafted him b/c of his history of injuries, but, I'm not gonna push the "bad draft" panic button on him for at least the season.

4 years of college means nothing. Even veterans are not ready for game speed and schemes come the first week of preseason and they progress after 3 weeks of practices in the preseason. For someone who hasn't seen real action at real game speed its going to take a few games to get ready.

Its not like he has not played in big games. I don't like that he has had no time on the field at all before the Jets. I do think it will take him some time to adjust to game speed, but once he does.....watch out....

I think Kubiak is leaning towards holding him out....

So you should listen to your wife next time.

I learned that a long time ago... I am always wrong! :)

On SR610 this afternoon they stated that he was indeed not playing. Bummer!
