AP reporting that Chargers LB Shawne Merriman was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly choking Tia "Tequila" Nguyen. You may know her from her horrible show 'Shot at Love'.

Merriman, according to Nguyen, physically restrained and choked her when she tried to leave his house. She signed a citizens arrest on the scene, charging Merriman with false imprisonment and battery.

I just can't believe he would date that trash Tila Teqila. I knew that shot at love with Tila was a fixed show.

I can't stand her she is full of lies. She would make a good politician.

Can you say El Stupido? He needs to be banned from the league forever. Roger Goodell needs to grow a pair and lose these thugs, punks, gangstas, etc. I don't give a sh@t how big a so-called superstar they are. You do something like this, you're out. No more big bucks, no more suspensions for a few games, no Hall Of Fame, take their name out of the record books (should they have any records) other than POLICE. "No Bullsh@t Policy" needs to be put into effect immediately!!! Roid Head. A college kid gets suspended for a full year for punching another player, let's see what this guy gets. Probably will have to do a few commercials regarding Domestic Violence and all will be forgiven. Another Chris Brown. Watch. Come on Goodell make this a respectable league again.

We all say things like... "If that was me, I would of.. " or "I never would have.." or "what was he thinking.... "

But you never know, until you know.. you know?

& I can't think of a good reason for Merriman to do what he's been charged of. But not knowing the circumstances, I'm going to pass judgement at this time.

I've known some crazy females in the past, and this may very well be one of them. Unluckily for him, Goodell seems to be wanting to make an example of everyone.

And before you start spouting stupid comments like those above.....maybe you should let the criminal system do its thing. It's since been reported that he just prevented her from leaving the house in a drunken state for her safety and that paramedics checked her out and nothing....absolutely NOTHING was wrong with her. Choking by a huge guy and being thrown to the ground would leave some kind of mark don't ya think? **** those witnesses at his house who can speak on his behalf! Some of you posters on here jump at the earliest news of something and run in the farthest direction away from reality!

Okay Shawn Jr. Sure let's let the great criminal system do it's thing. Just as it did with Chris Brown, Donte Stallworth, OJ Simpson (Pre Jail Sentence), etc, etc. You make some pretty smart comments too!!! When did you sign up to represent Merriman, I thought he had a lawyer. If anyone is living in a dream world, it's NFL players that are given free passes to do whatever they want. Michael Vick was the exception, he actually served some serious time. Oh and I shouldn't leave out Plaxico, the law is the law (In some rare cases) If you want to keep these guys on a pedestal, go ahead. Me, I like to think they're human like everyone else in this world. This kind of stuff needs to stop. (Period). So go ahead...

Sorry, I guess I didn't see in the report that you were there as well. OOps. Surely you never jumped the gun in your life, EVER. Talk about reality...

I guess now you're on a crusade to make things right for Merriman. I hope you're not going on Chron.com and challenging everyone that made a negative statement about your client (Shawn Merriman), that would take weeks. Scouring the net for other negative reactions before the guy gets a fair shake. You go ahead, CPT. Hope you have a cape on. If any one has a small mind, it would be the one that doesn't allow others to have an opinion. Wouldn't YA think? So on that note, I'll let you get back to scouring the net...CPT Crusader

Opinions are one thing....that's not was yours was. You said that he (and any other player) should be kicked out of the league, hall of fame, his mama's house, and so on because he allegedly....(ALLEGEDLY) choked and threw down a stripper wannabe. I also said...that if he is in fact guilty of it, then I'm all for whatever punishment dished out. I wouldn't call Foxsports.com headlines scouring the net but okay. Once again....read...re-read...then comprehend what I'm saying. It's difficult for people like yourself when not everyone thinks what you say is golden.

The sad part is you've probably been to the Chron.com far more than I ever have and you live in Idaho.

Let me repeat myself......and read carefully and slowly here.....If he is guilty of doing what was stated...then I'm all for any punishment he gets handed. I would say the exact same thing about Mario Williams or Andre Johnson if that were the case...but then the roles would be reversed because you would be protecting them saying they are such nice guys they could never do anything like that! If you truly believe that ALL (that's what you said, right) athletes are THUGS and GANGSTERS, then why do you allow your innocent little eyes to watch such vile content on Saturdays and Sundays?

CPt you got one thing right, I do live in Idaho, but was born and raised in HOUSTON, not Beaumont...Yeah Houston Buddy. And yes, it is still an opinion. I guess you and your pal 79 think the league needs thugs, etc. Merriman might be innocent, or he could have said Baby (Tila) please you got to tell them this...or I'll lose my job, etc. Anyway stuff like this is old and tired. It needs to stop. If the guy is guilty, then so be it, it's not your job to police the board, is it? If you can't deal with others opinions, then maybe you should leave it alone.

I'm not policing the board...but you're spouting baseless information that hasn't been proven one way or the other.

Oh...you're born and raised in Houston as opposed to Beaumont.....AREN'T YOU SPECIAL! What does this have to do with the argument anyway? Are you somehow a bigger fan because you're from Houston? I can't fight that logic when I'm dealing with an unarmed man! OH..OH....I still live in Texas so I must now be a bigger fan than you.....do you see how stupid that argument looks! You never answered the question of if you think that all athletes are thugs and gangsters then why do you watch it?

Okay, one last post regarding this. YOU brought up location, pal. Don't read too much into others posts. I was simply telling you where I'm from. The statement about Chron.com, yeah I'm reading my hometown papers website everyday, hell yeah. You look stupid because that wasn't the argument at all. It was you who brought up scouring the web and you mentioned Chron.com! I got the info from Foxsports.com as stated which is hardly scouring the web seeing as it was on the front page of said website where YOU would have had to actually go to chron.com...sports. More scouring on your part then mine. Did your dad get beat up in Beaumont or something...you're holding a little resentment?

Yes but your post implied Merriman is a thug. He simply restrained her because she was drunk. I have seen not acts on Merriman's part that have constituted him being a thug. Yes your entitled to your opinion, but we are entitled to dissagree with it.

I thought that I might briefly (I hope) update you guys on the Shawne Merriman and Tila Tequila Soap Opera.

From what we've seen, Ms. Tequila has been on Tweeter since the whole thing came to the public's attention. I'm sorry, I know maybe all the facts have not come out yet, but this whole thing is a joke. Now a report surfaces that Tequila found Shawne was in bed with two other women and she got a little upset. Merriman apparently then asked Tila to join in with him and the other two women. She got more upset and, already being intoxicated, took off her clothes and was heading out the door. Merriman stopped her and then put her in a closet. She is charging him with roughing her up and false imprisonment. There was also a version that said Merriman was trying to stop her from driving drunk. I'm not sure who's version is who's. Some of this apparently is coming from witnesses that were at Merriman's home when it all happened. Sound a little bizarre?? Yep, I'd have to agree.

It seems that, at the worst, Merriman should be charged with poor judgment for hanging out with this woman. The stories coming from this thing just get more and more unbelievable. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out. Basically, she had "no visible injuries" but claims that he "choked" her and threw her to the ground. Then "held her against her will". He says she was drunk and was a danger to herself and to others.

All I can say is that this is really bad timing for such a distraction. Some of the other players have voiced displeasure but feel it's basically a non issue. The whole thing, in my opinion, is just ridiculous.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop by, say hi and update you on this. You guys probably have better things to think about so I'll finish this and wish you luck this weekend. I'm ready for some football!!

You left out the part where she stripped off her clothes and told him she was going to have sex with all the guys at his party and then ran into the living room area. That was when she decided she was going to go run out of the house naked and he stopped her from leaving.

If for some odd reason a friend of mine decided she was going to leave my house naked to run around my neighborhood screaming... I would stop her too.

However, I find it odd that everyone was so quick to side with someone like Tila Ngyen. She is not exactly a stand up citizen who we should believe without question. She is the one that will be in legal trouble for the false allegations she brought on Shawn since all the witnesses are pointing to her as the one that was out of line.

Have you stopped to think both could be out of line? She may very well have been running around naked shouting about pulling a train and it still wouldn't entitle Merriman to use any force he wanted to restrain her.

I'm 100% in agreement. I did leave out a lot of detail in this since, much of it, is hearsay. I have sources a little closer to the truth but don't want to blab too much. Lets just say that what you are saying is pretty close. I, too, would want to stop a drunk, naked and somewhat crazy woman from making a fool of herself.

Who knows what she plans at this point. The DA has dropped the case so it's now up to her as to whether to file a civil case or not. Some fans have said that he should charge her. LOL

Suffice it to say, that it's probably not in either one's best interest do do that. Best to just let this thing fade away like Tequila's popularity.

Yes, that is a "horse" that has been beaten to death on message boards, twitter, internet blogs, etc. etc. (pardon the pun)

There is never a situation where any woman, man, child, animal or anything else should be beaten. This issue has been talked to death, but most of us feel that what happened here was more about creating a scene than someone actually being "abused". There are many women who are beaten and abused, unfortunately. In these cases, those who commit the crime should be locked away for a long time. This, on the other hand, cheapens those kinds of cases. Too many big egos in this case... yes, on both sides.
