This makes me wonder if Smith and Kubiak even looked at the waiver wire cuts. There were some good players out there that were cut by other teams. Jack Ike-CB, Marcus Freeman-LB, Trevor Canfield-G, Ian Johnson-RB, Bernard Pollard-SS, Brian Brohm-QB, Rhett Bomar-QB, Terrance Taylor-DT, etc... Are they afraid of taking a chance on someone that wasn't in our training camp?

Agree. They should look around and explore. I'm sure there are better players out there. Then again, these guys were cut for a reason. The only guy on your list who isnt eligible for PS is Pollard, but it wouldnt even hurt looking at him. Wilson's status is up in the air.

Lydon Murtha, Tim Crowder, Zack Follett, M. Freeman, Jason Shirley, Mike Mickens, Chris Ogbonnya, Trevor Canfield, and Terrance Taylor along with the players mentioned above should at least be looked at by the texans FO.

(NE worked its magic again.....They would have lost Seymour next year anyway.....Now they have 2 first round picks (Raiders pick should be top ten) and 3 ...yes three secound round pics. That is how you build a dynasty. I could only imagine the Texans ever having 5 first day selections.

HHMMMM sign a guy who spent entire offseason in OTAs and training camp learning your offense, or some guy who wasn't good enough on another team to make it....GEE TOUGH CHOICE

Did you see Ian Johson rip it up? He was better than Foster or Hall. It is all about the up side. Our guys like Nading & Jenkins are as good as they are going to get. I like the guys but come on we need to take a chance on possible starters not so so back ups.

LIke it has been said these guys were cut for a reason its because they are not ready I would rather resign the guys we think cuold help us then roll the dice on a guy that doesn't know our system.

I'm guessing this current practice squad really comes down to newer guys that were on the bubble of making the team. I know they love Jenkins, since he has been with us since last year I think but Martinez had a better showing and NFL experience. Also Buster Davis was good enough to make the team in my opinion. If their is no development or growth, they can always cut the PS members and bring in new guys.

As far as the NE mention, they manage to get one over a very desperate to be relevant Raider team. Its a good move for them because they have been slowly but surely rebuilding their aging defense with talented young guys. The Raiders think they are getting a major player although, I can't remember the last ex-Patriots to make that much noise.

Yeah he was put through waivers. Every team had a chance at him. No one claimed him so he went back to the Vikings.

I could be wrong but I believe the Patriots got Oakland's 2011 first round pick for Seymore. Just setting the record straight. Of course I could be wrong too.

before you cry you should probably study how the rules of the NFL waiver wire and practice squads work.

Unless it was changed, the initial report was Oak's 2011 first round pick for Seymour. Still that's an awesome deal for the Pat's, they just stack picks, and to get someones first rounder, you can't beat it, that's smart football.

As for the PS, other FA's, I kinda thought maybe they were looking at Peerman, or Johnson, but at least we got Foster  and having one is better than having none!

As for not doing anything about getting a QB, I liked Brohm in college, and Chase Daniel, but they are the experts!

Players don't make teams for a variety of reasons. Sometimes rookies are drafted by a team that is stacked with talent at their position making it all but impossible for them to make the team. Example: Marcus Freeman-OLB cut by Chicago who's really deep at LB. Just because a guy gets cut doesn't mean he's a bad player. Trevor Canfield-G got cut by Arizona but they're deep on the O-line and run a man blocking scheme whereas Canfield is perfect for the ZBS scheme that we run and didn't fit their blocking scheme. Not all players fit all teams, it doesn't make them bad players just bad fits for that team.

So by this logic it's better to hang onto lousy players than to get new ones and take a chance on getting someone good. Let's bring back David Carr, Jason Babbin, Boselli, Weaver, Buchanan etc...

when you sign a player off another team during the waiver wire... doesn't that mean you have to sign him to the roster? meaning you can't just sign him off a team that will prob sign them back to PS for your PS?

if that's the case some of our players that we cut and signed to the PS wouldn't have made it to our PS.

Im not sure on the whole thing but this is my understanding:

If a player is cut, he goes through waivers. Every team has a shot at him though in order from worst team to best team. You can sign him to your PS if he has less than 3 years of NFL service and cant have played in more than 8 game in a season and you're only allowed to keep them on the PS for 3 years(as I said above). If you sign a player to your active roster, of course you have to release a player then. So if I got this right, signing a player to the PS and active roster is different. And then of course, teams can sign players off another teams PS BUT I think they have to be signed to the active roster or they can sign another player off another PS if they were released. Get all that? Hah. Sorry for the confusion but this is my understanding. Someone who knows more or who has read up on it, feel free to chime in and correct me if Im wrong.

Bingo, the only guy in the thread who got it.

incorrect. You can only put free agents on your practice squad. That why they have to clear waivers. Any player picked up from the wire, go on your 53 man roster.

I like Nading. In the event of injury we know he can step in and play. Buster is good insurance in case some one gets hurt in the lb corps. with six recievers I dont believe Jenkins will factor in untill maybe nect year. Helms? we have three centers on the roster allready. He is obviously gonna be a cut to add some one from the pup list or active roster

yes its very rare that you can find someone good enough to warrant dropping someone from your active roster, it happens but rarely. the biggest guy I can remember was Ryan Lilja. The chiefs released him to put on their practice squad and he got picked up and went on to be one of the top guards in the league. wow what a blunder hehe

Interesting. Texans(and Jags) had put a claim in for S Anthony Smith. Yes that Anthony Smith, formerly of the Steelers(last year) and Packers this year, that guarenteed Pittsburgh would be NE or whatever he guarenteed. Though, Rams got first dibs and signed him.
