I thought our Defense looked tons better when Busing and Wilson were back there. I like Barber, but I don't think he is ready to start at SS. It should be Busing jobs to lose..IMO

I agree Busing looks good so far. Who released him?

Dominique Barber has just been in the wrong spots, and played horrible technique. Couple that with his lack of speed (4.7 40 time), and his lack of ball hawk skills, it just wasn't working out like they thought.
I've been very impressed with Busing's play. I'm sure he's not an athletic specimen, but he's always where he needs to be after the snap. When that is added with Eugine Wilson's ball hawking abilities, they do seem to be the team's best options right now.
Hopefully Jacque Reeves comes back next week, and still has his explosive speed, because Fred has been below average thus far. With Jacque's closing speed, Dunta's ability to play the run, and Busing and Wilson, I think the secondary will be able to create some turnovers, and hopefully stop the big plays.
As a whole, I really see the defense with the ability to be very good, they just need to stop with the mental mistakes, and be in the right position to stop the big plays.

Not to mention Barber blew the coverage on CJ's 57 yard reception. That was Barber's man.....not Robinson's.....

After watching Chris Johnsons's 91 yard run in the third quarter I noticed that Busing was in line to make the play, then followed the TE to the flat which opened up the gap.
My question for the football guru's: Although the TE was probably his responsibility on that play, shouldn't he have at least checked the backfield for a potential run first?
Back on topic, yeah Wilson / Busing seems to be our strongest safety combination atm.

I could be totally wrong on this(going on memory) but DeMeco blitzed the B gap and Cushing was out of position(not in the A gap) and was washed out by the pulling guard...again going off memory so i could be way off...

It's not ALL his fault, but you have to look at Secondary Coach David Gibbs if you're going to give some blame out. Brice McCain also blew an assignment on one of CJ's long TD runs.

I had to listen to the game on the internet, so I really can't say who had what. But, you say TE and I automatically think of Cushing. Where was he on this play?

As it was pointed out barber was supposed to be on CJ out on the pass play and after that I noticed that Busing was out there and not barber.
Busing looks positionally correct and atleast leaves himself in the play instead of diving for a futile attempt at a tackle. I think Busing is better in pass coverage where barber seems to play better in the box however Busing can probably learn run support a little better and be our full time SS

Took out all the other uneccesary stuff.
Upon further review: Okoye (playing over their RG) misdiagnoses the play and runs himself completely out of his gap. Their guard barely even had to try to throw a block. I guess I answered my own question.
Cushing was manned up on Johnson (who was in the backfield, Shotgun formation opposite side of the TE) this play and the Center blocked him well on the counter. I'm still a little leary about him not checking for the run first but I can understand trusting your DL and LB's to make the play.
