Steve Slaton does look more bulked up now. However, I see him shifting from side to side and not accellerating when there is a crease in the defense.
I think he is better with his speed than at pushing defenders back. We are rooting for you Steve. Come back to form buddy. Sophemore jinks pooey!! Not for you Steve. Let`s see the `ol Steve Slaton again that we fell in love with last year. GO SLATON!! and GO TEXANS!!!

Hate to make excuses for Mr.Slatton but he faced some tough *** defenses last 2 weeks. I think he will be back against Jags. If he is slumping by week 4 I be worried then.

Its called gameplanning and schemeing for him. defenses tend to do that when you lead the league in all purpose yards. They are mimicing the defenses slaton had trouble running on last year to try and force him to adjust

It will open up air attack even more.

especially playaction, even if he is getting 2 yards and a cloud of dust....
That is what killed the Titans Sunday, they were so worried about Slaton, they forgot Schaub can throw it around a little....
It amazing how everyone is focusing on Slatton. When they lay back for air attack he bust some big play runs. I say he bust 100 on Jags this w/end.

Good defenses and the line just isnt opening holes like last year. Pitts injury and Myers play have been the major factors.

Agreed, he will get back to old self, especially after the aerial attack displayed in Nashville.

Kubiak said that Slaton lost the extra five pounds he reported with and is about the same as last year....I think you guys need to focus on the line and the blocking problems.

See I think he runs the same but defenses are playing a more discipline gap assignment (something we need to improve) and not leaving any lanes to cutback. I see holes but there is a defender that is keying on slaton before the pass. but he does need to put 2 hands on the football in a crowd.

We needed Schaub's big day this last Sunday since teams are crowding the box and playing gap control defense. As teams start to get lit up in the passing game they won't be able to continue to put so many defenders in the box. We need to pass to set up the run then we will start to see more production out of the running game and I think we did a good job of that this last weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see Slaton have a big day vs the Jags since they won't want Schaub lighting them up like he did the flaming meatballs.

I have to agree that the weight is not as much an issue as securing the ball. We can not really judge our players with two games, lets see how he does against a weak 3-4 the Jags have, Slaton should be able to show us if he still has the burst. Unfortunately you can change your weight but not your running style, if he is slower then he has to quit trying to get outside, if he still has that burst then Sunday will be his coming out.

& Unless the weight he bulked up with in in his fingers, he needs to protect the ball.... 2 games / 2 fumbles... Get a GRIP SS, AJ has got some extra gloves if you need any!!!!

Actually it is 3 fumbles on 26 carries and 6 pass receptions, we only lost one, we were very lucky Duanne got on both his fumbles in Nashville, Duane almost got us a first down with one, missed it by a foot.

I read an article where Adrain Peterson was interviewed by jim Brown and Adrian peterson said he gained wieght in the Off Season and everyone was scared it was gonna make him slower but it didn't because he gained it in his legs so he wouldn't wear down during the season.

Guys....Steve is going to be fine. He faced the Jets in week 1 who may be the best defense in the NFL, and the Titans in week two, who held the Steelers to less than 40 yards rushing. When all is said and done, I bet he has 1200 yards and 10 touchdowns

This has been said a million times...
I don't think it's the bulk, I think it's the teams...
2008 Regular Season Rushing Defensive stats
http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorysta...1&d-447263-n=1
3 Baltimore Ravens
6 Tennessee Titans
7 New York Jets
So the Ravens had the 3 best rush d? and the d coordinator went to the team with the 7th best rush D, that JUST BEAT NE
Titans had #6 Rush D last year and only lost one player that didn't play ever snap and was more impressive against the pass, but still good against the run, but they also got more players better players for the rotation

Steve is only four pounds heavier than he was last season. Been getting a lot of questions about this, so I went ahead and asked him his weight in the locker room today. Just wrote a blog post about it:

I hope he gets that out of his system early, we will not be able to afford fumbles in the playoffs. We need to make sure no turn overs by land or air come playoff time, what ever it takes. DRILL DRILL DRILL
Stay pissed and focus!
Play every play like its the last play you will ever play.
We need to have the kicker nailing 50 yard kicks for any hope in the play offs as well. Missed field goals and turn overs will instantly eliminate us from any chance in the play offs. We have to get mad & stay mad.
Defenses know we have a good running back and will force us to win in the air. Just keep running it down there throat and get the offensive line aggressively angrily confidently run blocking. The offensive line is the key, they need to have pride in their ability to open holes for our running backs and show it and prove it!
IT"S FOOTBALL SEASON!!

It looks to me like he isn't picking a hole and committing to it. Last year he was great at finding a hole and shooting. These 2 games he seems to be hesitating a little more. It could be do to the Jets and Tacks Defenses pluggin the holes. We'll get to see this week. I hope he torches the Jags for 150yds.
However, the 3 fumbles does concern me. I think he is putting too much pressure on himself..He needs to go out and just play ball with nothing to lose!!
