View Full Version : How dumb can ESPN be?

I know that ESPN has no interest in the Texans, but not a highlight or word at halftime of MNF about the Texans/Titans game?? Don't they realize they are broadcasting the next game between these two teams? They could have really hyped up the scuffle and hatred between these two teams. Just plain dumb on their part, not to mention it was one of the best games of the week.

yea get used to it, only thing you really heard from them about the game when they mentioned anything was how Chris Johnson torched us. Which for the most part he had a couple huge plays in the first but was kept in check during the 2nd half

I am normally not surprised. My post was pointing out that the two teams are playing each other on THEIR network in November. I know it's all about who they THINK their audience is, but not taking the opportunity to promote the Nov. MNF football game was stupid.

Come on ESPN sucks, Houston is the 4th largest city in the US (And Growing) and they still don't give us any recognition/coverage. How much did they cover of the University Of Houston's win over 5th Ranked Oklahoma State, yeah. They suck. I would think the fight would have been highly broadcasted, but haven't seen much of it since the game.

We should tell ESPN and all thier anti Texan BS to FO. They need us more than we need them.
The Texans have a great future ahead of them. ESPN will have to show our highlights. They cant ignore us. TEAR DOWN THE WALL!!!!!!

Yeah, sorry about that. Probably wasn't called for.
It just seems so desparate when people are counting mentions on the different shows.
When we get consistently good, the attention ya'll crave will come.
Again, my appologies for the comment.

Thanks for the apology. Let me again say that I wasn't whining about the lack of ESPN coverage, I was just stating how dumb ESPN was for not taking the opportunity to promote these two teams that THEY are covering later. I'm sure they will be showing the scuffle and bad blood a week before the game though.

Since I live back in Missouri I noticed Espn has got worse the last 2 years and covering teams. Even if a team sucks you still should focus on showing highlights of a bad game for a minute. Like poster said on here posts ago if you are not on east coast you are screwed in coverage. Midwest,South, and West get no love from Espn. Houston is a big azz city and espn probably thinks it is a hick town. Andre Johnson is a major star in league and gets no love at all from the morons in Bristol.

I guess I'm just missing something....
If you want to read about the Texans, doesn't the Chronicle cover them? You've got all sorts of news about the team on several Msg Boards in addition to Video on HT.com. The local radio station MUST cover the team...seems like there are easier venues to get info as opposed to channel surfing looking for a mention from some station that broadcasts out of Conn. You've got all the coverage you need right here in Houston.

And if by some circumstance you do sit thru an hour of Sports Center and surf the other national networks and stumble accross a 5 second snippet of a Texan highlight, just seems like a terrible waste of time when you could have simply recorded the game and picked out whichever highlights you wanted to see and got your re-runs that way.

Unless you're just bored and have nothing better to do with your time....to each his own I suppose.

09-22-2009, 09:29 AM
yea when you do hear them talk about the Texans, for example Andre Jonson, they say that he is one of the best in the game-instead of saying he is the best, even though he was #1 last year in receiving yards and #1 this year as of the end of the titans game i think. We know what we got and we will just have to wait until we make the playoffs or beat indy and new england in the same year before they start showing us some love.

This is true but I just don't what difference it really makes. I mean so what if they show a 5 second snippet. Most of us have seen it already. If it's a matter of you wanting them to talk about us....why? What are they going to say that we don't already get here locally? We're the first to know right here in Houston, this is where our team lives.
If it's a matter of learning something new about the team, all that info is right here. If it's a matter of you wanting Joe Blow Cleveland Browns fan to see our team....do you really think that rabid Cleveland fan give a rats-@@@ about the Texans? He's using those 10 seconds to go kick his dog. So I just don't see all the fuss for not getting coverage on ESPN. We (the fans in Texas, the ones that count) get coverage on our local news, local sports talk shows and rags in the Houston area. That all that should matter. Now if our local oulets start to slight us, that's a different matter all together.

If Andre was number one in TD's they would have said that but Walter had as many TD's as Andre 8, Moss TO and Fitz were all 12-15

AJ will make a spectacular catch then go and drop a few easy ones. That may dull his shine a tad. Didn't he drop 2 or 3 in the first quarter Sunday? He's got to make the easy ones as well and be consistent about it. I think he's already considered one of the best, but to be THE BEST he can't drop the easy ones.

I listen to Houston Sports Radio all day while at work so i get all my information through that. But just seeing our team on ESPN kinda lets us know what the national media is saying about us and what they think. Its great to hear from local fans and local media telling it like it is, but we don't really know what the national media thinks.. But I honestly prefer my local media to get all my info.

I just think that ESPN doesnt talk about any of the Houston teams simply because we're not "news worthy".. meaning we dont have a bunch of Drama Queens parading around for attention (See Favre, T.O., Jerry Jones, etc).

Most people recognize AJ as the best WR in the NFL today, but just like Fitzgerald last season, AJ hasn't had the opportunity to show it on the big stage with the world watching or on a winning squad. He has all the physical tools, mental strength and the right age needed to be the next great receiver, if he isn't in your top five WRs, you don't watch football.

Well, my take on it is why does anyone care what the national media has to say about us?
I mean, I care alot more about what a local sportscaster has to say about the team, someone who has daily contact with the team, over what someone who doesen't even live in this part of the country has to say. Chances are that the national guy just pulled a local story anyway and is simply reading it on air and dosen't know the first thing about our team. That's just me though.

I think it's the feeling of being discriminated against. The local media is great.... for the local folk, but what about the rest of the nation? They don't see any highlights of us, it's easy to assume we didn't have highlights worthy enough. I don't watch the 4 letter network much, because I'm a football guy and all the other sports get in the way. However I like keeping up with other teams and when nothing is mentioned on my team, it would be a putoff.

Another thing is everyone says wait til we start winning. I remember the Rockets won a championship and got no love from SI. I don't know why our city is discriminated against sometimes, but yeah knowing it's happening to your city can be a pain in the a55.

Not really. I hate to sound rude, but I got season tix so I get my fill of the Texans here in Houston. However I like seeing how the other teams do, hence I got the NFL network. I imagine there's a Jags fan out there that might be thinking, I wonder what we're going up against next week who only has ESPN. ESPN should cover all teams good or bad equally. I saw the halftime thing where we weren't mentioned, but I could care less, cuz I was watching the MNF game. So please don't assume that you know me or my motivation for posting when you clearly don't.

No, I would never assume to know you or your motivation for posting. I simply posed a few questions and if those questions struck close to home, so be it.

I'm just trying to understand why some feel this longing for the Texans to be mentioned on an East Coast based sports network that clearly is not respected by the majority here. It's almost as if some feel that a mention somehow legitimizes us. I suppose if the Jag fans are interested they should be the ones complaining, but as far as we're concerned, we seem to have good coverage here.

Nothing personal...really. It just seems every year there's thread that pops up where folks are complaining that no one is talking about us. And that always gets me to thinking about the boss's obnoxious little kid we've all had to put up with at his Christmas party. The one that's trying to get everyone's attention that we'd all would really like to take a swipe at when no one's looking.

I think it's embarrasing to even put it out there.

Hey guys, the folks down in Houston are upset cause no one talking about them...HaHaha!
Please....

09-24-2009, 12:03 AM
Well, they should have mentioned it some. Not because it's the Texans and Titans, but because it was a good rivalry game that lived up to its expectations. Also, yes, we will be there in November. When we are, they will be covering that like there's no tomorrow. It's how Monday Night Football always is. They go crazy over the game that's playing. Even if both teams go in there 2-6 they would still hype it up and say it's the biggest game of the season. So no worries there, you will get your coverage then.

As for us not receiving enough coverage right now, nationally, that should be expected. I love the Texans, but honestly what have we done yet? Our best season was 8-8 with no Playoffs. Two years in a row. Other than that, for many years we were looked at as the worst team in the NFL. Until we start winning, and winning a lot, we won't get coverage. Now if we go 5 or 6 and 0 our next few games, you better believe we'll be covered. We'll be a "Cinderella Team", or whatever they decide to name us at the time. It doesn't bother me. I just want us to win. We need to focus on one goal and one goal only this year -- The Playoffs. Then we can worry about everything else.
