According to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post, free agent DE Marcus Howard is trying out for the Texans Tuesday.

Howard is a really fast defensive end (4.45 40-yard dash in 2008) that played linebacker at Georgia. Per Wilson, the Texans are also bringing in some more defensive linemen today as they try to plug holes in their leaky defense

Any body know anything about this guy, I thought we were set at DE, could maybe use a DT but not a DE unless we are gonna make smith a DT

Getting depth at any defensive position is a plus these days.

We do need more help at the DT, but we should be set at the DE. We do not need more speed rushers. We need big space heaters that jam the line simply because they always have 23 helpings at dinner.

Still, it is disappointing that we are still looking to shore up our D after all the money and draft picks we have invested in it.

Rick Smith brings in a group of players from the street to try out almost once a week or so. I'm guessing if they get anyone, they will sign them to the practice squad for depth. Except maybe a DT, depending on how our current guys play, we may cut someone if a player show good depth.

very simply they may try to bring in another end and push Bullman inside. He has been getting plenty of push when he is in their and it would be nice to see that up the middle.

Well, if nothing else it'll shake up the ones that are on the team now.

Little shaking never hurt nobody lol. We need to see the dt's play with more fire and discipline. they have to maintain their gap assignments. But the biggest problem I have seen is the same problems we had in preseason. They arent gettin to the outside fast enough and the aarm tackling is killin us!

So what happened to him with the colts or whatever team he came from?

The cut him a little over 2 weeks ago. He was a 5th Round pick and a lot of people were surprised they cut him. He had looked good in Colts camp. We need some pass rush help, and it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a strong side speed rusher when we're up against 10 personnel.

He will play the part of Dwight Freeney in practice hopefully he is more realistic as allen aldridge apparantly sucked as Chris Johnson

Don't put that all on Anthony. It's pretty easy to score on a 67 yard TD pass if you're Chris Johnson and nobody's covering you. :)

That's my problem with Rick... He doesn't do well in the FA market. There is a reason that these guys are on the street. He needs to trade a 3rd pck. for a veteran accomplished DE or DT... for that fact CB.

We are not actually set at DEs, any side opposite Mario hasn't produced so far. C. Barwin was handled easily so far. He still learning the speed of the NFL. I think the problem is that we have no pressure from the middle. Tennessee found out the importance of Albert and that's why they don't have any sacks by their same DEs. Every team is going to run at us right thru the middle. That mean right down our throat. I would've tried to find out what doughnut guy TJ could have done.

Speaking of which, anybody keeping track of how much action TJ is getting in San Diego? Their run defense hasn't struck me as all that solid in the brief snippets of games I've watched. Just checked on the NFL site and they are ranked a pretty weak 24 (but who am I to talk when we're currently rank dead last).

I say give him a try. We are good on our DL speed. We just need a big head buster to fill in those gaps. Honestly I think we are OK at the pass rush. We just need to plug that middle line up for the runs that are killing us.

I did a post in the NFL section earlier today that TJ is out 3-4 weeks with a groin issue.

TJ is doing the same thing there, as he did here.
