Okay, I can no longer contain it. I'm exceedingly optimistic about this season. Will we make the playoffs? I don't know. How many games will we win? Somewhere between 7 and 11 is the best I can guess... What injuries will we have? What kind of breaks will we get? How about the turnover ratio? Most of these questions can't honestly be answered. But here is what I do know:
1. QBs: easily the best situation we've had in our 6 years.
2. RBs: again, this is the best group of RBs we've had here
3. WRs: easily, again, the best group we've had
4. TEs: umm, the best group we've had, given that Daniels isn't a rookie.
5. OL: Best group we've had, great depth, and some continuity with good coaching
6. DL: the best and deepest group we've had.
7. LBs: by far the best group of LBs we've had here
8 CBs: the deepest group, possibly not as good as when AGlenn was here.
9 S: the deepest and most versatile group we've had, proably not as good as the season with Eric Brown and Marlon McCree.
In addition, we have a good coaching staff will have the same system as we did last season, and won't be relying on a bunch of rookies to start. Things look good. If only we were in the NFC.....

I'd have to agree with you on everything except #2. I would trade all of our running backs to have a healthy Dominick Davis (except Leach, he stays).

I think a healthy Ahman Green Beats out a healthy Dominick Davis-Williams
Compare ahman's best season to dominicks

We will never know how good our WR's were in the past because our QB couldn't find them lol

it's kind of sad that "exceedingly optimistic" for the texans doesn't translate into a prediction of at least making the post-season...

He's probably keeping it real as we have to get through preseason without anymore injuries. I'll be happy with a winning season, the AFC still has 7-8 strong teams that will be hard to push out of the playoff picture this year.

it's kind of sad that "exceedingly optimistic" posts are ruined by negative posters. Last i checked "11wins" gets you to the playoffs.

Im feeling very optimistic bout this year also. The only thing i cringe on is if we lose our first game. KC is very beatable this year & if we lose to them, how will our players react. This is why i think our first game is soo critical to our success this year.

This is funny but also I believe a darned good point. DC defaulted to the dump/short pass and didn't get many looks downfield. During his 5 or so attempts I noticed that Schaub also did a dump but if memory serves he did look downfield for a pass or 2.

Here's the original "exceedingly optimistic" post/prediction:
"Will we make the playoffs? I don't know. How many games will we win? Somewhere between 7 and 11 is the best I can guess..."
I'm not saying the guy is wrong to be optimistic. I'm not saying that we won't make the playoffs.
I just think it's sad that we use the superlative, "exceedingly optimistic", to denote the speculation of merely a winning season. The psyche of Texans fans sure is in the hole, huh?...somewhat understandably so...

I'm from Chicago where we have the Cubs. Part of being a cubs fan is constantly being disappointed yet hopeful for next year, and for some reason that's magical and something great. I think it's the shared let down, season after season, but keeping a glass-half-full attitude that binds us together as fans.
If the Texans can generate a long-term following with support as rabid as the Cubs, I am all for baby steps (such as a few more wins in a season) that get our hopes up :)
And, I am tickled pink thinking about what the Texans might accomplish this season.

I've said it many times before. All of the frustration, embarassment, harassment, disappointment, etc. makes success that much sweeter.
The Texans will be a winning team sooner rather than later but it takes one step at a time to be consistent playoff team. I'm not looking for a one-hit-wonder season, I want us to be in the hunt every year. If that means I have to suffer a little bit more then I'll do it...but I still won't like it.
Some fans appear so desperate for a winner that they're not willing to allow the mistakes and growing pains any longer. Sucks for them because too much negativity is bad for the health. I'll choose to be optimistic and realistic and the same time. I KNOW our team is better than last year but I don't expect any miracles.

Green in his prime absolutely beats DD in his prime to the extent DD had a prime. The question is do we have Green in his prime, Green as DD or something lessor. I think we will at least get DD.

If Green can give us the season he had last year or better I will be happy

I say five years of suffering is enough. I have a gut feeling this team will blossom into something.

I thought you meant what the Texans have ever had, we had a Dominick Davis in is short "prime" we're getting Ahman Green after his prime, (I'm not taking anything away from Green, he is still a good player)
