I was just checking out the depth chart and they already moved him to 2nd string behind KW. I like that they are updating the depthchart as training camp goes on.

KW better be watching over his shoulder because Jones is hot on his trail. He keeps this up he might start sometime during the season.

Cool, I'm liking him. I'm also liking that the Texans are updating stuff this quickly. Now that's a sign of a first class organization!
I want to see Jones against first string defenses before I start calling for him to be the #2 guy.
Personally.. I still think Walter has alot to offer.

I too would like to see a bit more of jones before i start singing his praises...yea he looked good against da bears 2nd and 3rd string defense...but what does that mean???? I like walter as our #2...yall are so ready to rip him to shreds over 2 plays...I've been to every practice open to the public this season and walter looks real good...he catches everything...i think he'll do just fine in the #2 slot.

You're absolutely correct. However I doubt Kubiak is making that move ONLY because of the Bears game. You said you've been to all the open practices and like what you've seen from Walter. What did you think about Jones in those practices you were at?
Perhaps he was already thinking about moving Jones up, and then the Bears game was his deciding factor. I don't know, I'm just thinking. I didn't make it to any of the practices, only followed the write ups about them.
But I am with you. Going against the 2s and 3s shouldn't be the only factor.

I'll wait until Jones is up there with the #1 team first before crowning him the #2 behing AJ.

Good to see the kid moving up. I like his moxy and he looked good against da Bears 2nd string. I would like to seem him against the #1's.
My guess is he will look good even with a few rookie mistakes. If he can make the leap from Lane College and playing in front of 1700 people to playing in Reliant against the #2's and #3's of one of the better defenses in the league, then I think he will make it to the bigtime.

Just to think everybody laughed at us when we picked him because he was from a small college. I say he will beat KW soon for the starting job.

He's been practicing with the ones. Watch day 17's video.

It would be nice if we got the suprise of the draft this year. However, I am with everyone else. I would like to see him put up two good performances before I start enshrining him.

Come on folks! He's just a rookie. I don't think he makes the Pro Bowl before next year.
The important thing is he seems legitimate and with Walter and Mathis will take a lot of the pressure off of AJ. I am not losing sleep over having a #2 WR anymore.

I like this, because it seems that Walter(s) is a weaker WR than I thought. Walter(s)'s hands are suspect. Jones brings to the table an aggressiveness that none of the WR's have. We'll see how long Jones can hold out Mccardell for the #2 spot. If McCardell can't crack the #2 spot then there really is no reason to keep him.

How exactly are Walters hands suspect?

He missed a couple of catches last game. It's not a permanent label to refer him as having "hands" issues, but it is something to raise an eyebrow about. He could easily correct this problem if he catches the balls throw his way the next game.

Correct me if I'm wrong I won't be offended, Didn't he only get 2 passes against Chicago though? The first one I thought was a great defensive play, and the only way for him to be able to keep it away from the defender would be for his arms grow and extra five inches and the other pass I don't really know what happened since I can't watch replays of it, but short of diving for it there was really nothing much he could do. Now, if he was missing and dropping unimpeaded passes, then I would agree with you, we still got 3 more pre-season games (well 2 since the 4th game won't really count) to evaluate everyone.

I am ok with Walters as the starter at #2, JJ can continue to progress and gain more experience backing him up. Walters has got experience in the NFL and in our offense. If JJ can prove himself then they should put him in the mix, rotating him in for speed to keep defenses off balance. Keenan MCCardell seems like a lost prospect at this time,he went gimp to darn soon after his signing for me.

One he was hit across the arm by the Defensive back in a nice defensive play. The other was an overthrow.
It's pretty early to call Kevin Walter "Jabar Gaffney".

Does anybody think he will be our DeMeco this year? Out of nowhere star
Jabar Gaffney had great hands as well. Jabar somehow became a terrible player because he made one mistake.. he fumbled the ball while running in a touchdown, costing us the points (in a game we ended up winning anyway, btw).
Ever since that one play..people have been putting Gaffney in the same league as Matt Stevens..and it isnt very fair to him at all.
Moving on though.. Walter has great hands.. its his biggest selling point. Nothing about the Bears game made me question his hands in the slightest bit.
We havent seen NEAR enough of our starters to be saying, unequivocally, that someone needs to be replaced.

havent seen enough... if Jones continues to perform at that high level for the rest of the preseason..then yah, ill be looking for his name on the OROY ballot.

No doubt he has/had great hands last season seemed to catch everything that came his way. However, he didn't look good in the game and at practice Wed. he dropped more than he caught. I suspect he is worried and is pressing and when guys do that, they just kind of get tied up and start over playing it. IMO, JJ will be the #2 by week 4 at the latest if this keeps up.

I like the aggressiveness and attitude that J. Jones expresses. That shows that he has alot of confidence. The coaches are around and see the players alot more than we do so I can only guess that they might have a good reason for making him the No. 3 WR so fast. Don't be suprised if he becomes the No. 2 (pending more preseason performances) before the regular season.

All the fans are talking about JJ. What about Mathis. All the repoters are talking about Mathis. They are saying he is the one pushing for the number two spot. From what I have seen that leaves Davis and McCardell fighting for the fifth spot. I give Davis a slight edge because MaCardell is not practiceing.

This happens every year... remember how the world anointed Wali "Sliced Bread" Lundy as the savior to the running game last year?
Jacoby is playing preseason right now... let's see him produce during the regular season 16 games. He is young and will need time to develop.

Perhaps there is a chance the Texans carry 6 WR this year? It could work considering that Mathis is also our kick returner.

DeMeco was hardly out of nowhere. During the regular season the year before he was drafted, he made more than one Top 15 mock draft. Many people on these boards had him ranked up there and a couple had him in their Top 10 choices for the Texans in the whole draft.
Now Colston was truly an out-of-nowhere scenario for the Saints. As for JJ, generally you expect small-school folks with positive attitudes to increase the level of play much faster than the big-school types once they hit the pros. The coaching and mentoring tends to be several grades better.

Anyone notice how a lot of us were worried about a #2 WR a few weeks ago, now the topic is which of several talented players it will be?
Gotta love it!!!

Maybe un-related, but on Madden, with AJ, Jones and Mathis in my lineup, I am unstoppable. Tried a game for the first time last night, no incompletions the whole game.
