View Full Version : Why do we continue to elect to recieve?

Just a thought but why do we always continue to elect to recieve first? I read/heard that we're something like 0 for 5 this season on opening drives. I would, for a change, like us to either defer or elect to play defense first. And so far, it has been our choice since I believe we've won the toss each time.

Your thoughts? Would you rather elect to play defense first or send out the offense?

I know we are 0-5 on opening posecssions this year, but the question should be.....

Points first (if U can get 'em) or Rec in second half to either extend a lead or to stop the bleeding?

The way the "D" ended this past week, lets get them on the fieild first this week if given the op... I would rather get it first in the second half....

Well it seems half of the time we're playing catch up. We elect to recieve, we do nothing, and then later have to come back out after the half and play more defense. Send out the D, see what they can do, if they give up a TD, your obviously gonna get the ball back, but if say your down at the half, you get the ball first. But just my $.02

I was thinking the same thing. It is obvious that it takes a few drivers for our Offense to get going so why not defer to the 2nd half...

I would prefer to defer.. that is, take the ball in the second half.... but that's just me... I'm sure everyone has their preferences.

Our problem is the lack of consistent play we don't know who is going to show up to play. If we know the D is ready when the game starts but it takes the O a little while to get warm then receive. Problem is we don't know.

I would rather have the ball to start the 2nd half.

I think the idea of kicking off is good for this team because were so slow to get into the game offensively.

Kickoff and lets see which defense is going to show up. That way if we stop them the offense gets pumped up or if the other team scores it put pressure on the offense.

I would prefer to defer and get the ball starting the 2nd half, but I can understand us electing to receive...our offense is highly ranked which cant be said for our defense so they try to score first and put the pressure on the other team and try to give our D some time to get up for the game and come out firing on all cylinders...as we have seen our D has not done this in any game except for the Raiders game...and many will say "it was the raiders"....so I see why they attempt to come out with the better rated O....it just hasnt worked in our favor.

I think the answer thus far has been obvious. The defense has been slowly gelling every week, making obvious improvements, but still inconsistent. An inability to get to the opposing quarterback, combine with inconsistent ability to put points on the board means you put elect to receive.

My opinion is they are close to opting to defer. If we can score early, we can use our special teams to pin them deep, and turn loose our linebackers in some blitz packages, force them to pass, and get some turnovers.

I am a big fan of defering but Kubes never does. I guess he wants our high powered O to get ball first and score to put pressure on the other team.

Good idea but I would rather defer....I like the idea of giving the first opportunity to turnover the ball to the other team since it is a big emotional let down for them. The other team scoring fiirst sux but really we spot most teams at least 1 TD anyhow.
