View Full Version : Injuries increased by "playing hard"?

On several of the threads, the idea is presented that "playing hard" results in a greater chance of injury. Most injuries I see are the result of accidents (see Spencer last year with Dayne), the result of poor conditioning (see Mathis, Jerome under previous regime) or simple bad luck. Some players are more prone to injury, some are almost never injured. IMO, effort or the lack thereof is not as much a factor.

Now being injured by someone else playing hard, maybe. Or just taking a cheap shot (spearing, helmet to helmet contact, chop blocking, etc. What do the rest of you think?

I think its just football and no matter what you do odds are your going to suffer a injury eventually, but not being well conditioned will make your odds of getting injured go way up.

Injuries are, unfortunately part of the game. Conditioning has a significant part in staying healthy. But when 2 tanks or groups of tanks collide, pieces can be jarred loose. Every decade, the weight of players have significantly increased. The 40's and 50's and 60's players would be, in general, classified too skinny today. NFL players can expect a greater than 50% chance of sustaining a significant injury ANNUALLY.:

Actually, if you are not going all out you are more likely to get injured because the guy hitting you is going all out.
