View Full Version : Schaub mic'ed up at All Access on Texans TV

Ladies and gentleman, I do believe our new QB will be something that we have never had in that position: a team leader. This mic'ed up is just the neatest thing, he even held a baby for a picture!
Listening to him, chat with his teammates, talk to fans, you just sense his confidence, his leadership possibilities.
This is fixing to get good, really good.

He seems to be a genuinely good guy.
I hope he does well.

The part that stuck out to me was the whole stair incident. As he's walking up the stairs to the stage to give his "Thanks for having me" speech, he notices there is a loose stair. After that, he points it out to everyone. Hell, he pointed it out to everyone to warn Amobi about the loose stair. The guy is one helluva leader already. He's taking care of the "star" rookie without even thinking about it. Awesome! [}]

I like him as our new leader, he can talk the talk, lets just hope he can walk the walk!! But seriously he is exactly what this team needs, I cant wait for the season to start.

I have followed the OTA comments and find nothing that fills me with the confedence that seems to fill the message board. All the talk means nothing unless Matt shows up. The O line has been sured up, not exactly improved, but at least they worked on it, The RB position got an upgrade, regardless of wheather he fumbles frequently or not, he is an upgrade to how we started last year. When I look at this team I see no noticeable change at QB yet. He talks alot ! He's a leader ? This team has an O line that is in it's second year under the same system, the RB, Green has been in this system his entire career, Dayne is in year 3 ( 1 with Denver ), and Schaub is in year 4 ( 3 with Atlanta with a similar system ). This SHOULD be a good season, every one is on the same page with no new system to get to know, so when the O line looks good, the D line looks good, they should, because for once in a long time our direction, and instruction is the same two years running. When Kubiak says we looked good out there, he better be right, because unless we finish at least 9 - 7, I will call for his head, and everyone here should do the same.

Sorry I thought the expression would be taken as intended. I will revert to the fourth grade level for you. Should the Texans not get to 9 wins and 7 losses, or better, Kubiak should be replaced as the coach.
I am sure you never called for Carr's head, or HATED David's name in vein.

I am not calling for anyone's head, we are still a young team. After talking to and listening to Matt talk on Saturday, if he can truly play football, we are going to have a great season. I wasn't that prepared to be so impressed, but I was.
He has such a "likeable" quality about him, like he never met a stranger. And holding the baby, uncomfortable or not, was really cool.
I'm still holding my breath, but am feeling really good about this year, and all of our other new players too. It should be interesting to see how they all play together.

Hey, he's a single guy (at least I think he is), he probably hasn't held a baby. Chances are you're going to look nervous holding something that fragile if you don't know the best way to hold it.
As long as he doesn't look awkward holding the football, I'm happy.

I was pretty impressed with the segment. Schaub has personality. He seems to be loose and likes to joke around with the guys. The baby thing would've been awkward for anyone....I mean, who the hell brings a 7 week old baby to an autograph session?? I was waiting for her to ask him to sign her forhead!
I won't be asking for anyone's head either. That comment reeks of "David" homerism.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. Not only bringing that young of a child to an autograph session, but to let a guy you'd never met and probably hadn't had much experience handling babies hold it. Priceless!

That was my first thought too. What was a 7 week old baby doing there. But some people take them everywhere. Probably didn't want to miss the day, so just brought her along.
I have heard that he is engaged. That his girlfriend moved here with him and they bought a house in Bellaire. But he has probably never held a baby. Mine is now 22 years old and when someone puts a newborn in my arms, it doesn't really feel real comfortable to me either. LOL
Anyway, Go Texans

I hear ya. Mine are teenagers in High School. There are days I wonder how I got through the infant stage of my kids. I still cringe at the sound of a crying baby. Ah..it was a great experience though. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
Now back on topic. It was nice to be able to see that video. I commend the people who are involved in producing the videos. Other than this new MB being jacked up, the Texans website is great.

His two big purchases after signing his 6yr deal was a house and an engagement ring. His fiancee name is Laurie. But he has no kids. I've always been a baby person even before I had one of my own so I guess thats why it seemed awkward to me. But your right, as long as he doesnt mishandle to ball this year we will be all good.

I have watched this board since its begining & this made me sign up.....Why the stupid comments??As you dont see in the video chester pitts ask to hold him since his son is quite older now, schaub was asked if he wanted to as he was sitting beside pitts. He did which will be neat to show are youngest....We didnt go to get autographs, we went to meet the players, take pictures & get out of the house...Whats wrong with taken a baby anywhere? Sign her forhead ?? Another stupid comment!!
Now lets get back to the topic @ hand...A Great Season & Winning year!

Shawn, I don't think any of these comments were meant to be as derogatory and they came across to you. People take babies everywhere these days, it's okay by me. I thought it was cute to have his picture taken with her.
I see how you could take them that way, but I don't think that is the spirit in which the majority, at least, were meant.

OK so it appears our moderators will allow someone to flame us for being "stupid" but won't allow us to post (without deleting it) a rebuttal when the original comment was only meant in good humor.......I see how it is. I guess I'll have to watch what I say as to not offend the new comers that can't take a joke.
So let me clarify this way instead. It was a really generous gesture by our new starting QB to hold a complete stranger's new born baby without hesitation. I suppose he didn't find it in any way uncomfortable as it is a common practice in the great state of Texas to have a complete stranger hold your child while you pander for an autograph. I was insensitive to think that it would be awkward, and somewhat humorous, in any way. It only goes to show the graciousness of our new team leader and every player should follow his example. Furthermore, I would like to appologize to anyone that was offended if I found any amount of humor in this subject. I will try not to be so insensitive to your feelings in the future. Please forgive me.

Tell me you bring hearing protection for your child. A baby at a football game??? Really??? Bet you take your baby to the bar too.... [:P] I have a 4 year old daughter and let me tell you, I wouldn't dream of taking her to a pro football game. Why would I want to take a her into an environment where I know people are going to be getting drunk, screaming, cursing and generally acting insane???? Oh wait, maybe everybody should keep it down and not curse or drink just because I have my child there...
And as for the comment that is causing the emotions here... the guy was obviously making a joke. Stop being so **** sensitive. Geez!!! People never cease to amaze me...

Listen champ! I'm all about family, have been probably longer than you. So, let's not throw the "family" card around so carelessly. You're right, I hope I don't have to sit next to you if you have baby on board. Not only will the baby remember nothing, but it takes the parents minds off the game as well. For the price we pay for games I'd be happy with a sitter taking care of the baby for a few hours. It's my opinion! Like it or not I don't care.
BTW, congrats on the kid

young children at games, not me. I have a 4,2 year and 8 month old. I would never dream of taking them to a game at this age. heck I hardly ever take them to a resaurant besides mcdonalds. I am always looking for a babysitter, hard to keep them because it is a madhouse around this place. hey I work 4 months on and 4 off on ships and I look forward to going back to work so I can get some sleep. crap, I need to cut this short due to, crap in a diaper. And after all that said I wouldn't trade them for anything, love them very much. I would say cut the dude some slack on the baby comment, I so understand. when it is time to get out of the house in a public atmosphere to relax or have fun, it is babysitter time, but hey thats just me talking.

Take it easy about the baby... As I'm sure it was from " RENT-A-BABY" I guess I was lucky when I was that age, my parents use to take me on buffalo hunts and made me stay with the other infants that were 7 weeks or younger. Just a short note... at 7 wks the eyes aren't that good for shooting buffalo guns.

Yeah, I'd be worried, AJ had a few too many drops last season.
Still, that would be the ultimate test of whether a QB and his #1 WR are on the same page- see if they can complete a 20-yard out route, only instead of a football, they use a baby.

I really enjoyed that segment on Texans TV and was even more impressed with our new QB after watching it. He doesn't come off as goofy and immature as our previous QB and seems at ease with his teammates. It was the little things that impressed me - the concern about the loose step, not hesitating about holding a new baby even though it probably made him a little nervous. My favorite was seeing his face light up when the guy asked to take his picture with the sign for his handicapped friend - he genuinely cared - you can't fake that. Fakers always have that half-second hesitation.
Now if he is as good on the field on Sunday as he is off the field - we are in for our best season EVER!

Don't get to excited about these public affairs events. Its practice and camp that will tell the tale of the upcoming season.
Having said that, I think that it IS refreshing to have a QB that actually has a personality and that seems to be able to interact with his teammates and enjoy it.
Noticing the loose stair tells me the young fellow has situational awareness. Now if that S.A. translates to the football field, and is coupled with quick, intelligent decision making, we could be onto something. I'll take that combo over a a super-strong arm any day.
Go Texans!
