Next week's game against the Colts is the most important game the Texans have ever played. Ever. Don't believe me? Here are the facts:
The Texans have never been 5-3 before, which obviously means they have never been 6-3, which would be their record if they can beat the Colts.
They have also never won four games in a row before, which would be a first if they can beat the Colts.
While plenty of teams are still in contention for the two AFC Wild Card spots, it does appear that both New England and Denver will win their respective divisions, leading Miami, San Diego, and whoever out of Cincinnati/Baltimore/Pittsburgh doesn't win the division. Personally, I don't think Miami or San Diego are legitimate threats. Cincinnati/Pittsburgh/Baltimore still have to play each other a few times, so if one of those teams can stand out (Baltimore is my prediction), then only one of the remaining two might remain a Wild Card threat. Also, we do have the tiebreak against Cincinnati, so here's hoping Pittsburgh falls, and fast. Even if Pittsburgh remains a contender, its unlikely both them and Cincinnati will finish with better records than us, provided Baltimore does us a favor and wins the division.
Back to things that more directly concern the Texans.
The Texans have beaten the Colts once in their entire eight years of being in the league. Once. A win against them (in their own stadium!) would prove that the Texans aren't the same team as the past few years.
While league-wide doubters have seen us beat one good team handily, one okay team barely, and one crap team the way we should have in, a fourth consecutive win against a team as good as the Colts will prove to the rest of the league that the Texans can beat good teams and not just crappy ones.
After next week's game the Texans head into their bye, and come out of it with a very winnable schedule: TEN, IND, @ JAC, SEA, @ STL, @ MIA, NE. While I could see us winning EVERY one of those games, I will be realistic and say that we could very well win 5 of those 7, which would put as at 11-5/10-6 depending on next week.
Heading into our bye week after beating the Colts, especially with our TE situation muddled (will this be the week "Thor" breaks out?) can very well motivate us to win those 5 (or more) games we'll need.
I could probably list more, but my mind is crazy right now. This is the biggest game in TEXANS HISTORY, and the idea of winning it, makes me way to giddy inside.
