4hours and 40 minutes to go.
What I will try to focus on
On Defense: Our secondary, more specifically new pick up Poole, I want to see if he will be able to put Faggins at nickel.
On Offense: Our O-line, mostly in the running game, I want to see how far they get downfield before our running back catches up to them.

I expect Schaub to air the ball out and put up some yards. I think Walters will be a bit better today and hopefully we will see some Schaub 2 Jones and Schaub 2 Johnson

I really want to see how our secondary does against their talented receivers.
I will also be looking for penetration by the D-Line, the battle at #2 WR, and the overall performance of the first string O-Line.

Agreed...I would really like to see him get it downfield today...especially to my boy Andre. Mathis taking one to the house would be sweet too.... :D

Edit: can someone fix the title, I just woke up.
I want to see how well the O-Line does on gameday. They did quite well last gameday. Schaub avoided a sack. Carr would of just went into the fetal position.

Pressure from the d-line that's what I want to see, them move the ball score touchdowns not fieldgoals in the redzone that's a must. It would be nice if Matt could get 100 yrds a TD and Mario a sack or two would be nice might slow the Mario a bust threads.

I hope to see how much pressue our starting D-line is able to get this week. Arizona's O-line is nowhere near as good as Chicago's. It should be a good test for us considering they've got a rookie T guarding Leinart. It appears Levi is adjusting to the same learning curve that most rookies (not named Demeco) go through......
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/preview?game_id=29474&displayPage=tab_preview&season=2007&week=PRE2
Arizona first-round draft pick Levi Brown will start at right tackle, replacing Oliver Ross, who could be out for the season with a torn biceps tendon. Brown has struggled to adjust to the quickness of the defensive line during training camp, especially in pass blocking.
"You can still see a lot of things on the practice field that he's struggling with, which a lot of rookies do," Whisenhunt said, "and this is still early in camp for him because he missed the first week. I think getting into the game is going to be important for him, and going against players, especially their first-team defense, so he can get a little confidence."
let's hope we shatter that confidence

Watching the Cards in last weeks game, they looked pretty active on the defensive line so this should be both a good test for the O-line and the qb's.
Be good to watch our boy D-Rob go against Fitz and Boldin. Of course we'll all be watching Levi Brown against our D-line.
Go Texans!

Dunta is a hitting machine right now. Our D stood them up on 4th and 1. The Cards shouldn't have had that good of field position....had to rely on a b.s. gadget play to get the interference. Even though CC was burned he did the right thing by interfering because he had no idea where the ball was.
Now we need to establish a **** running game.

So far he's finding open receivers pretty well. Arizona's not pressuring him a ton, but when they're in the vicinity, Schaub's dumping the ball off pretty quick.
HydrOshocK
08-18-2007, 03:29 PM
THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN ABOUT!!!!
Anyone have any questions whether Schaub is the man now?? That was one hell of a drive. Our O-line has done an excellent job in pass protection. They still need to show some serious improvement in run blocking but Schaub has had all day to throw the ball and he's been on target. I wish he would've connected on that throw to AJ in the endzone but he nobody's perfect.
He's been hitting Daniels on some big plays over the middle...something we haven't seen much of in the past. Another thing I saw was a 5 WR set!! Anyone remember ever running a successful play from that formation in the past??
So far so good. Our 1st teamers look very sharp but I still want to see more success running the ball

You can just tell that Schaub has earned or is earning the respect of the team. Our line seems to be fighting harder for him. AJ in the paper today said that we got rid of the losers (read: David Carr) and now have guys who make plays and want to win.
On the pass to AJ that was deflected in the end zone....does Schaub need to get that ball released earlier, and with more mustard on it?
Or was it going to get defensed no matter what?
HydrOshocK
08-18-2007, 03:38 PM
Still no sight of a pass rush though....that's a little concerning. We MUST improve on that. Still, our D is playing fairly well. I know it's still preseason but Dunta looks like he's on his way to the Pro Bowl this year.

Clark is our guy in running situations. Amobi getting handled so far does not sound encouraging. 4 penalties in the 1st quarter is something im sure Kubiak will address, 85 yds is alot to give up.

You know most of the elite pass rushers of the past few years started piling up double digit sacks beginning their ROOKIE SEASON. Merriman, Peppers, and Freeney just to name a few.
Didn't we pass on Merriman. I think you either have it or not. Mario doesn't have it to be a force like those guys unfortunately.

Exactly. Was going to post the same thing.
It's natural to get down on something like that, but then you gotta' realize that Arizona has in Leinart-Fitz-Boldin what we expect to have in Schaub-AJ-Jacoby.
They have a year on us.
No shame in what happened.
Look at it this way: What Cardinals fans were sitting there crying big tears when we, the lowly Texans, shoved it down their throats for OUR TD? There must have been HUGE panic out there in Cardinals land that our awful team made it down the field like clockwork on their defense.
I'm telling you guys this: Forget the bad d-line play for a second, and just relish the fact that we finally have some semblance of an offense.

Its amazing to me that we never have been able to generate a consistent pass rush. Even when we blitz we can't get pressure. It has been like that since the beginning. What was shocking about the Capers' years was that he was the architect of the early to mid 90's Blitzburgh defenses that would drive Moon and the Oilers crazy. He basically designed the zone blitz yet he didn't do any of that really when he was here.

I think part of the reason we have some trouble scoring TDs in the red zone is because we become very predictable when we get near the goal. We almost always do a HB dive down the middle on 1st and Goal.

It's seemed pretty much four man rush the whole day so far. I imagine mixing some blitzes into the playcalling will improve our rush somewhat.

The Good: Schaub, the pass protection, the WRs/TEs, and the playcalling were all on the same page, driving it 90 yards down the Cards' throats with a TD run by Schaub on a naked bootleg (untouched, totally faked the Cards' D). At halftime, NFLN analysts (Jim Mora and the other guy) were very high on Schaub's and Jacoby's first half performances. Schaub went 10-14 with a rushing TD, two passes over 20 yards, and ZERO SACKS. I don't even think he was knocked down or even touched, to tell you the truth. Dunta played Pro Bowler defensive back...laid hits on everybody, had sure tackling, and was just dominant. The Cards were unable to run on us...we shut them down, and that's the assessment of many others here I think.
The Bad: Run blocking was a little off, but overall...Ahman was hitting the seams, taking DBs for rides, and Dayne trucked over a few players on some nice runs. Had to settle for two FGs with Sage at the helm, but Sage was OK as he made some nice throws (other than his "almost" interception that he threw).
The Ugly: No pressure from our D line. Our DBs were exposed on several pass plays.

I know your not going to like this repsonse but vanilla offense even in the red zone is what you are going to get from Kubiak in the preseason. He comes from that old school mentality that preseson is just to evaluate talent. Some of the new young coachs like Wisenhut and Tomlin are pulling out some flashy plays but most coachs will not.

I am glad there was a penalty on their TD and we held them to a FG. I want to win this game preseason or not. We are not the NE Patriots or Colts. We are a losing program trying to turn things around. Instilling a winning attitude is the first way to turn things around.
