Wed, 23 May 2007 13:57:31 -0700
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/30/nfl">Pittsburgh Steelers have released P Chris Gardocki (http://www.kffl.com/player/459/nfl).
I do not understand why they would release this guy...he's a solid punter...we should definetly try to bring in gardocki to this team...he would be a no-brainer to beat out chad stanley

Yea but they released him bc the Baylor kid is left footed and its a totally different for the punt returner to react to it. I do know that this kid is a bad son of a gun though.

The Texans won't sign him. They love Stanley. That's why they re-signed him.
Stanley was signed to a one year deal at just over league minimum. In the NFL that ain't love and will not at all hamper changing punters if they want to.

According to these stats keyfro, Stanley averaged .3 yards more per punt last season than Gardocki did and had more punts inside the 20 yard line.
Tell me, where are you going with this?
Gardocki's been a consistently better punter in terms of average and such over his career. Plus Stanley can only seem to kick 35 yards. I don't know how his average was 41.6, as every time we needed a big booming punt (like the Buffalo game, or the Giants game), he pooched one and almost gave the opponent the ball in our territory. I'm sure the defense was really pleased with him after the game.
I know Gardocki's older, but I honestly believe that anyone we can find is better than Stanley. I didn't want him on the team last year, and I certainly don't this year after he cost us at least one game (Buffalo) and possibly others (Giants, maybe more, I can't remember). At thisd point I'd put Wilbur ahead of him on the depth chart. Really wished we could've gotten Sepulveda...

As a lifelong steelers fan, the problem with Gardocki was that he couldn't flip field position, as the opposing teams' punter would always out net kick him. His positives were that he had never had a punt blocked in his career (quick 2 step punter), and was good inside the 20. The new head coach thought that they needed a booming punter on the team. there is plenty of fan dissent in the Steel Town over wasting a 4th round pick on a punter.

After reading this I'm not as stoked for Gardocki as I was. If he came in and was another Stanley, I'd be very disappointed. Stanley is supposedly good inside the 20, but that's because he can only punt 35 yards, and often the offense stalls so that a 35 yard punt lands inside the 20.
And I wouldn't call Sepulveda in the 4th a waste. I'd have been alright if the Texans had taken him in the 4th (basically anything 2nd day was alright with me), as I thought that Sepulveda was a set it and forget it type of player- draft him, put him in the lineup, and you don't have to worry about that position for at least a decade. How many other 4th rounders are that great of talents at their position? And for the Steelers, Gardocki is getting old (36 I think, although punters can last forever, look at Jeff Feagles), and I think this upgraded their punter position both short-term and long-term.
I just now have a slight grudge against your Steelers for stealing the player I wanted on this team [:@]

article on the balor punter, we almost drafted him. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=117&p=2&c=641948 (http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=117&p=2&c=641948)
With the Houston Texans calling Sepulveda, perhaps it would have seem fit that he would find himself playing not too far from his home in Dallas. However, Sepulveda soon got another call.
"As soon as I hung up with Houston, Pittsburgh called shortly after. They asked if I had talked with anybody, and I told them I just got off the phone. They said, 'Great, we are going to make a move to come get you'. When you hear that, your heart just starts beating really fast. It

Yea but they released him bc the Baylor kid is left footed and its a totally different for the punt returner to react to it. I do know that this kid is a bad son of a gun though.
actually they released him because he was the worst punter in the league last year, stanley was the next worst, but I dont think we want to pick up the worst guy from last year to IMPROVE. IMHO

Let Stanley battle it out with the kid from Florida we got as an UDFA and hopefully lose his job.
