IMO, he's gonna be good!
I cannot understand why nine other teams didn't see what we just saw in that film.
Okoye came into the game relatively early...played almost every down...and was only out of the play about 3 times out of the dozen or so plays he was on the field for. He gets slammed because he's going to be "a young man going against grown men," and yet he's 3-4 years younger than the guys he faced in the Senior Bowl.
98% of the time he was near the QB, or was forcing the runner to alter his running path (funneling the runner to other DLs or LBs), or he was getting double-teamed.
I really liked his discipline on the plays where he could have just blasted right past the ball carrier in an attempt to shut the play down in the backfield, but instead he slowed it down and stayed home a lot--This tactic didn't make him look dominant, but it did make the others around him much better...a lot of guys were getting plays because of Amobi.
IMO, the beauty of Amobi is that he does exactly what he can do on each play. He stays within himself, taking what he can get and making the big play when he can. He'll be able to patiently accept the double-teams and the ball going to the opposite side of the field...because he knows he's freeing up the other defenders, or he knows that the blockers or QB or ball carrier is going to snooze on one play (at some point) and he's going to capitalize upon it.
You don't get to be a 19-year-old graduate AND outstanding DT by accident. He's a very calculating player who prowls and pounces at just the right time.
Mario. Okoye. DeMeco.
And everyone else on the defense just got a lot better at the same time.

I agree on all points. He has excellent penetration up the middle and closing speed to chase the QB or RB down in the backfield. Even when he was double teamed there were plays for negative yards because his teammates were able to come clean to the ball. And when he wasn't getting penetration he was holding his side of the line.
I'm excited about Okoye. I don't see any reason why he can't duplicate the same intensity at the pro level. To say he's too young or inexperienced to be effective in the NFL is basically saying everyone he will face is better than he is and I don't think that's the case. My gut feeling is that he'll be the same player in the pros that he was at the college level. It may take him some time to adjust to the size/speed of the game like all rookies. But I haven't seen anything that makes me believe he won't be successful.
