the numerous times that Mckinney was pushed right back on his tush like 3 plays in a row and numerous times in the 2nd half thus just collapsing the pocket on Schaub and Green....Do we not have any better centers than this guy??? it was like watching the Houston Texans of old and was really pissing me off.

McKinney sucks, but he played better than Flanagan, unfortunately.

Sorry, I should have clarified. McKinney played better than Flanagan in the preseason to earn his spot. McKinney is a decent OG but a well below average OC. It wouldn't surprise me if we look for someone this offseason, but we're pretty much stuck with McKinney for the rest of this year. Injuries appear to have caught up with Flanagan, who used to be a Pro Bowl caliber player.

I must have been watching a different game, on my TIVO replays, I see Chester Pitts getting slammed. Unless McKinney is wearing 69 now ;)

gotcha...perhaps he will make a bid for some playing time for next week cause the panthers will eat mckinney alive if he plays like that again...

well go back and watch again....76 is consistantly getting shoved on his *** and right into our backfield...i was having flashbacks from 2005...especially in the 2nd half.

I don't think the blame can necessarily be pinned strictly on McKinney, although he didn't have a great game. Granted, KC has some pretty impressive D-linemen but our guys were sloppy.
Salaam let Edwards blow by him without even trying to stop him and Schaub took a big hit (Ahman wasn't in the backfield to pick up the blitz). Pitts was just as bad, giving up that holding penalty to pin us back at the end of the first half.
Overall they didn't have a good game as a unit, but in past years that would've been our demise. Our QB would've folded under the pressure and hand the game to the other team. Fortunately we have a QB now that can take the hits and still make the plays when our O-line plays poorly.
I know one thing for sure. They need to take Schaub out for dinner.

That and throw mckinney a good ol fashioned blanket party...see if that wont improve is play.

I've watched the game twice now, replaying the offensive side of things again and again, McKinney played well. On the one play he definitely stands out in the crowd, as he leaves his blocker to pick up the guy Chester let go by, as Pitts had slid over to help Salaam, he of course didn't get over there in time, and bam, we give up a sack. The very next play, the same guy rolls over both Pitts and McKinney, but after that, they made adjustments, and as you could see in later parts of the game, the penetration by that one player ceased. I'd say good adjustments made by our offensive line coach.

The O-Line play was pretty sloppy all around. That big D-Tackle for the Chiefs was walking in the backfield in the second half. I guess the national media had part of the story right this week.
I'm with Hydroshock though...it would have been a L and more sacks with another quarterback in the backfield.

Go back and watch it, it isn't his man, it's Chesters man....on both occassions, McKinney is providing support. Missed reads on who to block maybe, but once you review it, you'll see, overall the play by the center and the right side of the line was pretty solid. It was our left side that had the issues. I realize you're having nightmares that are the result of a team that has played poorly for five years, but this isn't the same team, or coaching staff. And my vision is fine, thanks for asking :)

Speaking of the left side. Edwards lined up unblocked on the blind side and noone made the call. Who was responsible for picking up that blitz? Schaub was in the shotgun (i think) and there was no RB. I'll have to go back and watch it again but i think we were in a 4 WR set.
When the ball was snapped Edwards came free and blasted Matt. I would've thought Salaam would've said something before the snap or maybe try to slide over and pick him up in hopes that Schaub could at least sidestep the penetration directly in front of him. Someone missed an assignment because of bad communication IMO.

Same here. I thought we just got our QB killed and I would never be able to show my face at work again ;)

wasnt schaub looking left and edwards came from his throwing side....so it wouldve been winston
No he came from the blind side. Schaub didn't see it. Edwards was untouched....textbook blindside LB blitz

I think it was Salaam's guy.
on the McKinney discussion in this thread...It doesn't matter who has the responsibility...you can't block anyone on your backside...one thing I look for in linemen is the ability to stay on their feet. Linemen are worthless on the ground.

NOw correct me if I am wrong but isn't it the centers job to call line audiblesand slide protections to pick up potential blitzers?

your wrong
i played o line and d line, o lineman make reads when the play is about to start, if a LB is showing blitz on the LT (i played LT and DE) then the LT calls show will or blitz will, the guard then calls out 5 or 4 depending on where the DE is playing to say i got him on his outside shoulder and the center and the RD and RT and so on, the RB dosent call alsong with the OLINE but he needs to see it to pick up teh RDE
