While discussing football earlier, a couple people had mentioned how Schaub looks great so far, but our defense is really weak and hasn't looked impressive (???). So I did some scouting, and found some interesting facts about our young defense this season:

*Our defense has not allowed a rushing touchdown, or for that matter, a rushing FIRST DOWN.
*Our rush defense is ranked third in the league after facing Larry Johnson (112.8 yards/game in 2006, 43 against us) and DeShaun Foster/DeAngelo Williams.
*We are one of only two teams (the other, Minnesota) to record multiple defensive/special teams touchdowns so far this year. Only eight teams even have one. (Side note: We only had THREE all of last year, and we're at two already.)
*Our defense, averaging seven points SCORED a game, is OUTSCORING two teams so far this season.
*We're allowing twelve points per contest, fourth best in the league right now against two teams that averaged 16 and 20 per game last year.

Needless to say, I put to rest his worries about our defense.

PS - Our offense is also second in the league in 3rd Down Conversions. Woo!

Have we really not allowed a rushing first down? No Offense but I'm going to have to look that up to believe that..wow.

Our defense is sooo bad aarrsee!

Here's a fun tidbit about a team we face in two weeks: ATLANTA HAS ALLOWED MORE SACKS THAN THEY HAVE SCORED POINTS. 13 sacks to 10 points.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Texans allowed one first down rushing to the Panthers and five first downs rushing to the Chiefs.

It didn't take long for me to find:

3-4-KC 29 (11:12) 27-L.Johnson up the middle to KC 35 for 6 yards (90-M.Williams).

5th play from scrimmage for Kansas City. Larry Johnson got a rushing 1st down (less than 4 minutes into the game)....I stopped looking after that.

That doesn't change the fact that our defense is stellar, especially against the run. And these turnovers they are creating..heck yea. They are really playing with a fire in their belly (is that the correct phrase? lol)

To correct myself: I had heard that line on SportsCenter and got excited. I did my research and found that we've allowed six first downs rushing. But what I think is worth noting: looking through the entire play-by-play versus Carolina, a 13-yard scramble by Jake Delhomme was the only rushing first down last week.

Take away that fluky Smith TD and it looks even better. In a word: dominant.
