I Love My Texans.

I have savored every victory from day one. I have lost cash betting on my Texans when deep down I knew they would'nt win. And I defended them even when I knew they were wrong.

And I am SOOO happy that they seem to have turned it around. I could'nt be more proud. But I can still remember being laughed at when I would wear my battle red.....hell, the clerk at Academy laughed at me when I bought my jerseys.

The Texans fan-base has always been so small, you always had this "us against the world" mentality. And now all the people who ridiculed us before are getting on the wagon. It kinda makes me feel dirty. Kinda like hooking up with the popular girl who crapped on you in high school.....it's awesome, but it feels kinda wrong.

I think I am just bitter, but I was wondering if anyone else felt really uncomfortable with the bandwagoners?

I have also been on this train since '02. I have basked in the wins and suffered through the losses and I finally see the light. It finally looks like we are becoming a team to be reckoned with. That is all I have ever asked for, a team that competes week-in and week-out. It looks like we have that now.

Bandwagon fans are just a part of sports. They come and go. They get the best tickets for the biggest and most meaningful games while true fans that have stood by their team through the rough times sit in the upper deck and watch through binoculars or sit at home and watch on TV. Thats just the way it is and you have to get used to it.

One thing is certain though, when you have been through bad times with YOUR team it makes the good times sooooo much sweeter. People who jump on when it's convenient have no concept of what it took to get there and therefore do not get the same satisfaction that the everyday fan does. I love this team and what they stand for and what they play for. I haven't felt this way in a long time and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

I feel what you are saying but I guess we have to take them aboard...it's either that or just pray that we lose so we can be the only true fans again..lol. You can always take tell the bandwagon fans, they are the ones who don't know the players names, don't know the coaches and don't know anything about the texans offseason pcikups. The bandwagoneers will say some of the silliest things...just ignore them and hi-five the real fans. Any extra tickets you may have, make the bandwagon fans compete for them on ebay..lol

I don't have a problem with bandwagonners. Although they show up for the party, at the end of the day they don't appreciate the turn from loser to champion because they haven't been there for the ride.

In the meantime, they are useful for filling up the stadium and making it louder. Us regulars have our tickets, guaranteed for playoffs, etc. The bandwagonners are mostly watching on TV. They only have a temporary interest.

Yeah, y'all are right. It is just so weird to have people saying nice things about the Texans. I certainly would rather have the bandwagoners and win games than continuing to lose.

Here's to keepin this big bad train-a-rollin!

Welcome all Bandwagons , I have been Die hard fan since 02 and feel that I'm the only only one with my Houston Texans stickers on my car all decked out with Toro ...
I knew some day after getting rid of David Carr this team was going to be totally different team!

i got that exact same cuzi! lol. well in all honesty i've always been an oilers and cowboys fan since way back then when... my pops has always been a season ticket holder for the cowboys so thats what i was raised on, but i had been living in houston so the hometown was my team... when the oilers left i became a fan of the TITANS... since 02 when the TEXANS started i wasnt that big of a fan because i couldnt really stand DAVID CARR i always thought of dude as the weakest link the TEXANS had... When i heard he was released and we picked up michael vicks back up SCHAUB i was like this is the year things will change! I remember the day i went to buy texans vs. cowboys tickets i was so excited because i felt SCHAUB and THE TEXANS were on a road to something different now im very glad to know i was right!
On the subject at hand of band wagoners, it is what it is let em cheer on... the loyal die hard fans of the TEXANS will enjoy the victories much more than they will and will take the losses more serious then they will but we'll always be here to keep cheering on our team so dont worry bout the next man let them do what they do and lets just keep on cheering on our team... they're gonna need all the fans to come out and cheer them on so we can run over MANNING and the COLTS and be takin serious! We will play without ANDRE JOHNSON so the fans need to root the TEXANS on to rally them for a win...

True fan, here. Been down w/ the Texans from the start. The one team I can say that I'm a fair weather fan of in this city is the Astros. Those playoff years were exciting - though I do hope they make it back next season and beyond. Getting back to the Texans, I honestly think they will go over .500 this year.

The funny thing about bandwagoners is that our team could continually do great year in and year out from now on and the NEXT team to go from bad or mediocre to impressive will take all the bandwagon fans towards them leaving the TRUE Texans fans.

So I say, let 'em come. Stay if you want to, and leave when you've moved on to your "new favorite team" !

See, that's what gets me, right there. I don't have the ability to 'jump ship', or move from one team to another because one team is losing, and another is winning. That isn't a bandwagon fan. That isn't a fan at all, that's just a shallow . . whatever it is . . something bad that I wouldn't want to associate with . . but it dang sure ain't a fan.

Bandwagoners, like em or not, are actually good for the team, city and sport:

1.) It's the only way the fan-base grows. The fan-base can't grow without NEW fans. No one can reverse the clock to become an original fan. Yes, it's true that alot of them do leave when things turn sour, but some of them stay; this is where growth happens. You can never develope a rabid-fan base without this key component: a steady stream of new fans.

2.) It's good for the city when people that don't normally talk football start doing exactly that. It creates a football buzz that tends to feed on itself. Admit it haven't the past 2 weeks been a blast? Hasn't meeting new fans been a part of that fun?

3.) It's good for the Texans themselves when Houston is in high-gear football mode. I don't know to what degree, but I'll bet our team responds to how nuts they're fans have become.

4.) Its also good for you. You get the satisfaction of helping foster in someone a very cool thing that you've known all along. (Even during the bad times)

I bought my season tix the first day they were available and I've earned my stripes by sitting through some gawd-awful displays of "football", but I'd never leave a bad tast in a potential fans mouth by dishing out an "I'm a bigger fan than you" attitude to them.

If we're in the business of making people feel bad about their teams, lets do in in the form of "I told ya so" on the colts, titans and jags forums after we beat em.

Just my 2 cents.

I know what you mean, I have been a fan since day one and have taken on critics, and even got into a fight once defending my Houston Texans. That said, let em' hop on the band wagon, knowing that you got here first, and thus have the sweetest seat.

My thoughts exactly. If you want to jump aboard a party train, who am I to fault you.

But I feel like the gratification I'm feeling right now is a lot deeper and more satisfying than any joy a bandwagon-fan could get because I was there suffering when a lot fewer were.

I saw this team as an eventual champion from day one because I saw it in Bob McNair. He exudes class and quiet intelligence. I can't feel the same pride the players are feeling because they are leaving their sweat and blood on the field. The pride I feel is that my early judgment of this organization has been validated.

I've been following the team since day one and I'm very happy with the direction were are going, I'm sure if we reach the playoffs all of the sudden the fan base will be much greater. Vinny, if you're reading this please help me recuperate my old nickname, it used to be southtexan. I know this is not the place to ask but what the heck.

Ya I am in the Navy so I deal with people from all around the country. I dont know one Texans fan besides me by the way. So before the season started I was telling the guys that the Texans would be good this season (same thing I say every year). Well of course I had to deal with the usual. The texans suck blah blah blah. HAHA well dont think I havent been rubbing it in there face. When there teams are 0-2 or this one guy is a bungles fan and they got spanked by the browns. Finaly today I was just listening to some people talk about football and one guy was like how about Houston. Of course all the other guys were like oh they havent played anyone yet. Then I was like oh I guess if we went 15-1 and didnt beat the colt you would say we havent beat any good teams yet. Freakin donkeys. I am sure if i asked them last week if the panthers were any good they would have said yes but since we beat them they are garbage. I hope we win this weekend. Cause I will say what now I guess the colts suck now.

They annoy...but what are you going to do. I would guess that most of us who post here have been cheering our teams through thick and thin, going back to Luv Ya Blue. At least we are playing well enough to make people want to jump on board. The only downside of bandwagon fans.....buying up all the tickets to big games.

If you are a true fan, you stick with your team no matter what.

long time fan here, been that way since I found out we were getting a team. I was even part of the "staff" on sundays helping out around the stadium during the 2-14 year. **** those games horrible. Had no idea it would be that bad LIVE in person. Anyway, this season is really looking up, and I think McNair finally delivers this year (thanks to SmithKubiak &co.), what was promised since the inception of this team, a competitive, entertaining, championship caliber football team.

Why would you bet actual hard earned cash on a team you knew was going to lose? It seems to me that there are more prudent ways to show love and loyalty.

Because, no matter who they were playing, I would always go on and on about how my boys had a shot, I would always cite the Cowboy game, and the season opener in Miami in year 2.

My jerk cowboy fan friends would always find a way of goading me into a bet. I just could'nt bet against the texans....never lost any big scratch though.

It would always be nice watching em sweat it out when the Texans kept it close though.

I think im gonna make my cash back though because my buddy is so anti texans that now he says without dre, we wont even be within two touchdowns of the colts.....and I know if the texans lose, they are'nt gonna get beat that badly......not in our house.

CAREFUL betting with Cowbabies fans, I lost last year and paid right off Monday morning. Guy who bet me back in April we would lose to Cowboys, he is ducking and hiding like Tony Romo will be this Sunday.

His big excuse someone stole battery from cell phone so he couldn't call me, funny thing is he called right before halftime talking S--T about how Cowboys coming back 2nd half (he missed TD where we put game away). I will call back at end of game and talk S--T to you, so I waited an hour and called him he had to go was late, he was tired...yadda yadda...as you can guess wrote off loss to NO-CLASS Cowbabies fans

Hope you get YOUR money

I absolutely loathe the bandwagon. Stick with the Titans and Cowboys, losers. You're not wanted.

Sticking with a team through the lean times is what MAKES you a true fan. It's what makes the good times so sweet.

Sorry, maybe I take it too seriously - but I actively dislike the bandwagoners.

I dont know about everyone else, but I shut down my membership to the board when they went with those annoying-***** new boards, they were so hard to use. But now that they've gone back to the good ol' boards (kind of) and here I am.

The last boards they were using sucked big time.

I have lurked here for years. Even set up an account once but never bothered to post. Enjoyed reading comments from other fans. I was a true Oiler fan starting in 77 when I moved to Houston. My dad (Cowboy fan til the day he died) used to complain that I would come to his house to eat his food, drink his beer and cuss his football team. When Bud moved the team I swore off NFL until it was announced that the Texans were coming. Have followed them as best I can from the Austin area. I can tell you one good thing about this bandwagon mentality. At least the CBS affiliate in Austin is going to show the game this Sunday! If my getting to watch the game means having to put up with fair weather fans then that is a price I am willing to pay. I was a fan before they were here and will be long after they are gone.

Has it struck any of you other long time fans as ironic that the Oilers couldn't get TV time in Austin when they were in Houston but now that they are in Nashville you can't watch the Houston team because they are on?

It's a **** cryin shame that they don't show texans games in our state's capital. Hopefully this bit of success will get us on in austin on a regular basis. If the tacks keep looking like they have been, you might be seeing us a whole lot more.......especially when we beat them this year!

Good luck this weekend and good post too. Things used to be very dark in Indianapolis as well, to the point that a lot of fans thought we might lose the team. You guys are a good fan base and as a Colts fan, I have single handily witnessed your team struggle and I've seen them build a really good team via the draft, the way you're supposed to do it. I empathize with what you're speaking about and I'm glad to see your team turning things around. You could have ended up like the Jags, a team who's coach is terrible, they can't draft, and they're dirty. They're about one more losing season away from shipping out to LA. And don't get me started on their fans.:D
Good luck again and congrats to a fine start.
