Pete Prisco wrote an article listing who he felt was the most overrated and underrated player on each team (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10205109). Somehow he listed Carr as Carolina's most underrated player, saying "He will take over as the team's starting quarterback at some point and show the Houston Texans they made a big mistake".
Someone tell me how on earth Carr is underrated? He should belong on the highly overrated list if nothing else.
And just to throw this out, here's what he said about us:
Houston Texans
Overrated
RB Ahman Green (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/12404) . In his last 34 starts, Green has nine rushes of 20 yards or more. In 2003, he had 15 alone. The Texans paid him way too much money at his age.
Underrated
CB Dunta Robinson (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/493042) . His silky smooth cover skills get lost because the defense has struggled at times.

On Carr: He is damaged goods, period. People that are on the outside looking in still have their questions but the fans that watched and analyzed his play for the past 5 years already know what the rest of the world is fixing to figure out. He may have had the tools to be successful at one time but now he is a dog that has been swatted with a news paper one too many times and is now a veteran project QB.
On Ahman: Ahman is the best running back this organization has seen since its inaugural season (which isn't saying much). He knows the system and will make an immediate impact which is what the fans as well as the organization are looking for. Unfortunately with immediate impact players and veteran leadership comes equal dollar value. We did what we had to do to attempt to achieve immediate success and, for that, I am grateful.
On Dunta: I still firmly beleive that he is a bright spot on our defense that has been lost in translation for the past couple of seasons. With better pass rushing and some help in the backfield, he is my prediction for the most likely player on the team to have a break-out year.
My $0.02

Don't you have to perform well but be under the radar to be "under-rated?? As the "face of the franchise" for five years, Carr is hardly under the radar and he's hardly performed well on a consistent basis.
That guy needs to check his definitions.
Now Ahman Green may be a might over-paid for what he has left in the tank - a four year deal was a bit much. But over-rated? No. He's paid his dues and I think he brings a lot to our table.
If he means Dunta is under-rated because he (and the Texans) are mostly off the national radar, then I agree. But we know how good he can be. And I think the rest of the country will find out over the next couple of years.

I don't think Green is over-rated...he is a good basically, especially if he can stay healthy, which I think he can this year...I love the pick of Robinson being under-rated...only other play I could think of putting there would be Ryans...Ryans was amazing and didnt even make the pro-bowl...that disappointed me

Yes, Mr. Rosenhaus...
LOL.
I like Prisco.
Too bad he got this one wrong.
It's charity to give Carr "underrated" tag.

Carr IS overrated, but I like the fact he can have a fresh start with a decent Carolina team. I think he'll take over there and still suck with good receivers.
Demeco Ryans was a force last year and I think offenses this year know what they are in store for and will gameplan against him.
I love the way our defense is looking now with some key young players in Ryans, Williams, Okoye, and Robinson isn't aged yet. I think our defense is our strong point for now and should get better with maybe one more respectful DE or OLB. Our secondary still needs some work. But maybe if we can get some pressure on QBs this year it won't hurt us and will force mistakes. Offensively, I am waiting for that other WR still to compliment Johnson, I wouldn't mind seeing Jacoby Jones out there instead of Walters.

Why Jacoby Jones? Have you seen something that we haven't? Or is it because you just think he is better. Kubes said he had allot of work still, he makes a big catch then drops the next two. I think Walter will be fine and I think he is going to really turn some heads this year. He is a hard worker and he can run nice clean routes and never drops a pass.

Found a funny typo that would support Carr being overrated even in college: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/teamstats?teamId=278&year=2001
Under passing statistics, David went 0 for 476 in 2001, what a lousy completion percentage.
All kidding aside...I was looking to see what his sack numbers might have been in college, this didn't show it, but I did see that out of 476 passes thrown in '01, he only thew 7 picks.
I know there is no "simple" answer, but how does someone go from being the player he was in college to what he showed us as a Texan?
Ask David Klingler and Andre Ware.Oh and Ryan Leaf!

you don't have to go that far back. Just ask Joey Harrington.

Because playing in the WAC is nothing like playing in the NFL. Even QBs from good conferences will have trouble being successful in the NFL, and the talent in conferences like the Big 10, Big 12, and SEC is certainly greater.
Plus I heard that Carr only had to read half the field (not my words, something someone else once said, honest), which is a lot easier to do than reading the whole field. And I think that a lot of his big faults in the NFL (like taking sacks, not making reads, locking onto his first target) were present in college (I've seen links to scouting reports that list a lot of bad things that he did as things that need to be fixed in the pros), but they weren't as glaring.
Of course having a horrendous coaching staff and OL contributes as well (not saying the OL was the only problem, but it was certainly a major problem under Capers, especially years 1 and 4).
