View Full Version : Texans move up to take McFadden?

CP took a call about this on his radio show tonight on 790 and it got me to thinking about it a little bit.

Given the close relationship between Texans owner Bob McNair and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and knowing what kind of a GM Rick Smith is, do you think it's at all possible that the Texans would be trying to move up in a trade with Dallas as the draft approaches to take Darren McFadden?

(Cowboys have the Browns' 1st Round pick...likely a Top 2 or 3)

I dont see this happening at all. We would have to give up too much to move up to a top 5 pick, which is what it would take to draft McFadden. We dont even have a 2nd round pick next year, if anything we would be moving down in the draft not up. Besides, Green will still be productive next season, we wont need to replace him that early.

We should take a DB or an OL with our first pick in the 08 draft. I could see us getting a RB with our first pick in the 09 draft if there is a good one available.

maybe playing madden could i con jerry into that trade.

i would love to have mcfadden, but it wont happen :(

but man what a back he would be for our system. hell, for any system!

If we had to move up for anyone, I'd hope it'd be Kenny Phillips.

I agree misterpc. We're going to draft a RB in 2008 at some point (probably in 3rd or 4th Round), but he's most likely not going to turn into our eventual starter. At this point in the season I see CB, OL, RB as our areas of need, in that order.

I don't necessarily agree. That may have been the case the past two drafts, in which there were maybe 3 or 4 potential starters, but this draft is going to be very deep at RB if the juniors declare.

-Darren McFadden
-Jonathon Stewart
-Allen Patrick
-Felix Jones
-Ray Rice
-Ryan Torain
-Mike Hart
-Steve Slaton

Ok, maybe not. I was still thinking we'd be drafting in the top 10.

I personally think Ray Rice is the top RB in the 2008 draft class, but I know that the general consensus is that McFadden is the top back, then maybe Steve Slaton. I don't understand...Ray Rice is an awesome game-breaking RB...plus, he's got the prototypical NFL body as opposed to McFadden and Slaton, who seem too "Reggie Bush-like" in stature to me.

i looooooove ray rice when i picture him in the nfl(mostly as a texan) hes a tough, really strong, very fasy, great handed back and i love his size, i think hell be a hoss in the league..........

i like ray rice. i think he would fit the texans very well. i think he makes good reads at the line and make good cuts and get upfield.

i am not to hot on slaton as a feature RB in the NFL. i think he might be a bush like player.

mcfadden has got alot of postives. size, speed and power, and catches the ball decent enough to be effective in the flat.

i think kubes will stick to his history and pick up a back in the later rounds.

I agree. Hopefully this time he will find a better one than his last late round RB pick. The odds are pretty good seeing as the draft is so deep at RB this year.

Is Terry Grant of Alabama going to be coming out in 08?
What about Chauncey Washington of USC?

no idea. i have not heard anything saying they were. probably will be one of those things we find out at the end of the college season.

it would probably depend on there productions number and what the NFL gives them prediction wise for what round they would be taken in.

It's kind of hard to pick a RB in the 1st round when you have Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson, and Clinton Portis. Not to mention the fact they consistently picked in the upper 20's and for the most part there were not that many good RB's available for them to draft.

I still say if a RB is the BPA for us when we're up to draft...we take him. If is a DB we probably take that.

I understand that, but are they both juniors at least?

terry grant is a freshman(was redshirted last season)

chauncy washington is a senior so i am pretty sure he will be coming out this draft.

while you are right about them never being able to draft a high grade RB due to being in late rounds so much. it also doesnt mean he will due to the sucess he had in denver picking backs out fo the late rounds and having them produce 1k yards annually. i think it will come down to who is on the board when we pick. if a high grade RB falls into our laps, i dont beleive kubes will pass on it. but i dont think we would move up. just depends on what is there when we pick.

What about a Jorvorskie Lane to take the role of Ron Dayne???

only if he is a late steal........ but ya its a nice thought

We need another shut down corner way more and you're not going to find one in the third round where as you can find a good serviceable back.

Plus we also have Chris Taylor returning from IR next year and he had 116 yards rushing in the last game last year.

Your right about the 3rd round, if you wanted to draft Asante Samuals you would have had to wait until the 4th round. But Casserly liked Ragone in the late 3rd round better. Talent is available, you just have to recognize and develop it. Something Rick Smith and Gary Kubiak seem able to do.

I'm sorry to say but I wouldn't expect to see the same Chris Taylor anymore, not after a torn ACL. I would not doubt if he looks a little slower now. Never sen a RB come back from that kind of knee injury and ever be the same again...

sad but true. but with advances in technology, you never know.

Kenny Phillips.

That's who we NEED.

Johnathan Stewart
CJ Spiller
Chauncey Washington

Heck yeah! I'd take either of those guys and be stoked about it. They're all probably 2nd-3rd Rounders.

Spiller is a Sophmore although his other running mate James Davis is a junior and eligible he's really good.

I'd rather get some guys that can create holes for the running backs. I wouldn't mind getting a back in the later rounds if we have to. I think the needs on the OL and secondary are too glaring.

Lets go with homegrown talent this time...Jamaal Charles...good size and he is a homerun hitter.

No need to look for another corner....he is already here. Fred Bennett will be that. He is tall for a corner and has extremely long arms to make up for any lack of speed.

He coughs up the ball a little too much for my taste. Other than that, he's def. a nice RB. We need power in our running game though...Chauncey Washington baby!!!! Dude's sick!!!!

Washington has a nice average YPC and he's got good size. Why does he only have 44 carries in 3 games? I assume USC is loaded in the backfield and he splits time with other backs. I haven't seen Washington play, but I'll look for him in USC's next televised game.

I can tell you this the texans will not be tradeing up for anyone.

I put that in response to the the TExans move up to take Mcfadden.

All the list I have seen have him below the 15th best senior back, much less the top juniors in this draft, and believe it, the junior class is the better class of RBs.

Not saying the list are always right, but any number or videos to show of the guy?

Thanks for the reply. The kid has some baggage, that's for sure and it will cost him. For those not familiar he has missed 2 years of football due to acedamics. Yes it is a good thing he kept trying, and maybe he has matured.

But you want to be careful when signing guys with flags waving in your face.

here is some info from his USC bio He is 6-0 215
WHAT OTHERS SAY: USC running backs coach Todd McNair: "He is more powerful than some of the smaller guys and more shifty than the big guys. He's got a unique power-speed combination."

My conclusion is the kid has had 2 big games this year, he is splitting time in the backfield, not getting a lot of carries. He is worth watching, but come on you are getting a little ahead of yourself here.
