Ron Dayne on back to back carries failed to pick up one yard? gee i must have missed it. Last season, Ron Dayne was the least stuffed running back in the NFL. Ahead of Green, LT, and everyone else. He gets positive yardage, not a whole lot, but he does go forward.

You mean, besides the 3rd and short situations? This was the biggest complaint about Dayne last year too. IMO he's great to run on 1st or 2nd down to get us at least 3 yards, but when it comes time to plow forward we need someone else. If I'm Coach Kubiak, then I am not happy with my teams performance today on short yardage situations.

-Sigh- I know that. Green is injured, Dayne is his back up. We use Dayne in the 4th Quarter to run down clock and to occasionally spell Green. Which is fine, because Dayne isn't going in at every 3rd downtrying to get those tough yards. I'm not saying I hate Ron Dayne, I'm saying he's a liability in 3rd and short situations, not only to the yardage, but to our lineman to when he just plows into them and falls down.

As far as I'm concerned Ahman Green is not coming back. The guy is injury prone and he is old by NFL standards. We need to get used to Dayne. He had a few good runs today. We were just put in bad situations where they knew we would run and they stuffed the box. Getting a few yards or 1 yard starts up front with the offensive linemen. I will say that the call at the end of the game where we were at the 1/2 yard line was terrible. Why even take the chance with a pitch. Either QB sneak the ball or let Ron Dayne run straight up the middle and hopefully fall forward into the end zone.

You aren't getting what I'm saying, Ron Dayne gets yards, I acknowledge that. However when the opponents stack the box on obvious running situations (3rd and 1) our O-Line just can't get him enough room and he runs into them and falls down.

He also recognized that running the ball with Dayne on 3rd and 1 doesn't cut it. So he changed the play calls when he should have just changed personel. Everyone keeps thinking I'm advocating against Ron Dayne and his running game in this thread, which is not the case, I'm advocating against Ron Dayne in obvioius short yardage situations.

No, but it won't look too good when Vice raids his locker or for that matter, fails his urine tests. Luckily this team seems to "put up" when it comes to backing up it's standards on player character.

I was about to ask about DW. He can't be any worse than what we have. I mean the NFL is a young mans game. AG is/was a great RB, but I've seen him get caught from behind the few times he has broken into the secondary. We need a homerun hitter, someone with speed and YOUTH. If DW isn't the answer, then RB and CB should be our priorities next draft. Thoughts?

To a certain extent, Dayne can wear down defenders throughout a game; but, the problem is that they can still stuff him at the line any time they really want to. He is not a short yardage back at all, because he cannot fit through small holes, or find them for that matter. He has to have just the right situation to have a good game, and that's not going to happen real often.

I dont blame him for calling pass, the running game was terrible and he was trying to win. In general I agree with what he said though bc he has to have standards and expectations for this team. There is something very wrong if they cant win that yard more times than not and he has to put that on their shoulders no matter what back is out there.

Injury prone? Excluding this year he has 144 career games(32 games as Ricky Watters backup), 109 career starts, 18 career games missed(11games missed in 05, and was his only significant injury). I dont know that he deserves to be labeled as injury prone. As far as his speed he's tied the leagues longest rush from scrimmage in 06 at 70yards, 04 with 90yards, and 03 with 98yards as well as having a career 4.5ypc. Besides that I agree with your statements. And point out that McKinney seems to have been the keystone of the running game. Flanigan and the rest of the O line have more to do with this than anything.

You know I am sick about hearing Green's injury I was one of the guy's that was pumped about signing Green. As of now I still have hope he is the short term anwser but every week it gets me more and more regretting signing him. He has a bruse and I understand that a deep knee bruse is painfull but come on what the %#&* strap on a pair. We were saying 8-8,9-7, and some even saying 10-6 but if we can not get guys on the field because of a knee bruse you can forget about 500 win %. The way I see it if Jones can get a shoulder injury and miss one week and try to come back this week Green needs to grow a pair and get on the field. Dayne is not the anwser at all he is a back up at best and stop bringing up last year and what he did he was not that great, I give the o-line the credit for what he did and most of that due to McKinney being in the line up, look at last week when he was not there we just could not run the ball. We have a lot of guys going through the motions that do not need to be here, Flanigan for one, if a starter goes down memo to backups THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO PROVE YOURSELF.

It makes me laugh when people talk about Walker being junk because he wasn't drafted, and then in the next breath, they extoll the percieved greatness of an undrafted RB with a bigtime knee injury who had one decent game vs. the crappiest Cleveland Browns team in a long time.

You've got a point. We should have been able to punch that up the gut. I guess a QB sneak was out of the question? I would prefer we didn't do that with Schaub seeing as how an injury to him could decimate this team, but he did almost score a touchdown in that game on one.

Your high on chris taylor, but no one would even know about him if he wasnt given a chance last year or seen him in practice this year....so why not give the only rookie on our practice squad at the Rb position that can do all the things that rb's are supposed to do pretty **** good. Ron Dayne is not a power back and never has been. Even at Wisconsin, he never was a pounder. He was a bigger guy who ran like a smaller guy, he had some pop but has never been a guy like Alstott who can just pound and make stuff happen.
If this O-L doesn't start run-blocking without McKinney you will see that Ron Dayne can't be effective. All he does is hit a hole, any hole (even when he can't fit through) and fall forward. That often times will get you a safe 2-3 yards but never anything more. He had one big run last Sunday on a play where our playcall caught them off-balance.
