After yesterday's loss and the overwhelming number of injuries this team is playing through, where do you honestly see us picking in the first round. I say we go 8-8 and pick somewhere in the early to middle first round. Not sure who is projected there yet, but I hope it is a cornerback or a running back. Personally I'd like an offensive tackle, but I doubt a quality one would be available at that spot.

If I had to guess at this point, we would pick a CB. That could change if Spencer is seen as not making it back. A mid first round pick should get us a solid player at either position. Maybe not a superstar, but upper level. I could live with that. The thing that could change that is if Spencer comes back strong AND we pick up a good CB in FA, then I think Kubes might step out of the typical and take a RB in the first, but only if the other two are shored up.

Mid to late 1st expect a solid CB to be available, guys like:
Terrell Thomas 6-1 195 4.4 USC
Dwight Lowery 6-1 185 4.5 San Jose St
Mike Jenkins 6-0 198 4.4 South Florida

These are senior and when the we know the juniors coming out some of these guys drop. As for OLT, I think Long and Baker are long gone before we pick, but there are guys like Chris Williams 6-5 315 Vanderbilt.

A junior OLT Andrew Gardner 6-6, 300 Georgia Tech, has the feet and has been very solid in the strong ACC. If he comes out he might fall to the 3rd?
I also like junior Aqib Talib, 6-1, 195 Kansas, he seems solid and appears to be worth a 1st rounder if he times in the 4.4 range.

Also a late RB prospect for short yardage might be Jorvorskie Lane 5-11 275 Texas A&M, if he comes out, he would be a load as a short yardage back, and he has great feet for a big man, his biggest problem appears to be his weight.

I want the Texans to draft the best player available with the 32nd pick in the 2008 draft.

Reggie Smith DB Oklahoma

A CB right now, played SS the past 2 years. 6'0 200lbs runs 4.45-4.5

Rated #2 or #3 junior CB depending on where you look (Talib and Jenkins are right there). I like his versatility to play both DB positions. He can hit and he can cover. Not great against the run, but our run defense is pretty good overall.

Considering Kubiak's preference for big backs, I think Jorvorkie would be a great pick. However, I would draft him as a fullback. I know he doesn't play fullback now but he has great size and strength, has demonstrated good blocking ability, moves very well for a big man, has great hands out of the backfield and can still double as a short yardage back. I think he could be a very valuable player in our offensive system.

Not great against the run, That's not a problem with me, just as long as his coverage skills are good. We have enough run stoppers in the secondary: Boulware, Earl, and Dunta. It's getting really hard to find a good coverage guy. All I ever hear about are guys who are a strong safety playing free safety and are good against the run. Last year I wanted a trade-down so we could pick up Brandon Merriweather. So either RB or safety is who we should pick in the first

That's just what we need another large, slow back who can pound the ball. At least he seems to have better vision than Dayne.

Sam Baker would be pretty nice.

Javorskie's probably a 3rd or 4th Round guy and I like him for this team a lot.

1st Round - I would love it if Sam Baker were available. He's Top 10 though. I hope Reggie Smith is available around pick 20. He'd help us out A LOT!!

I'd take a DB, but where do I go to look at his 40 time and his stats. He's pretty tall, but no stats listed on ESPN.com.

nfldraftscout.com

says he runs a 4.56, but nfldraftcountdown.com says 4.45

he's somewhere in the low 4.5's, and that's pretty decent for safety. i bet he runs better than that

I guess I'll get the opportunity to watch him play in the Red River Shootout this weekend. It's almost too early to speculate where we will pick, but I imagine it will be in the mid to upper mid range. I'm assumming this isn't a guy who could play himself into the top 10 our out of the 1st round...

Most have him rated as the #2 FS behind Kenny Phillips.

I think that could be a great pickup for this team. Maybe we could bolster the offensive line and cornerback positions in free agency. I'm still holding out hope that Charles Spencer heals up.
