We have to figure out a way to use the draft and FA to improve our team while keeping our cap under control.
RB and OLB are both taken by Green and Greenwood, so those would be spots to look at in the draft. We have Fred Bennett as the apparent heir to Faggins, and we don't have much money tied up in the secondary, so CB would be a nice place to start in FA. Spencer may be out, but that doesn't mean we have to look at the draft for an OT. There really isn't much $ tied up at LT with Black or Salaam. We signed Flanagan to a decent sized contract, so we should look at the draft for that. We need a FS, but that position shouldn't be too hard to fill through the draft.

Draft
FS
OLB
RB
C
1- Reggie Smith DB OU
3- Tavares Gooden OLB Miami
4- Cory Boyd RB South Carolina
5- Kory Lichtensteiger C Bowling Green
Smith has versatility and can play CB or S. Gooden is a fast LB who falls to the 3rd because of injury concerns. Boyd has average speed in the 4.55 area but he can also catch the ball out of the backfield. The 2009 RB class will be loaded, so even though we may have Boyd, Green will be on his last legs and we can go after a big play RB in the 1st round in 09 and have a Jamaal Charles/Cory Boyd tandem. Lichtensteiger would be the best available C left.
FA
CB- Asante Samuel
OT- Not sure who is out there, so I can't say who we should look at
We've got the money, why not spend it? We're on the upswing, and with smart drafting and 1 big signing, we can make some noise in the playoffs.
