View Full Version : The Draft Steve Slayton Thread

I have been screening over our options for draft choices in 2008, and I would like to start a Steve Slayton bandwagon. This kid is a complete speed machine, who hits the hole well and has great hands when the situation calls for them.
In his college career, he has carried 565 times for 3497 yards and 42 TDs. He also averages 124.9 yards a game and 6.2 yards a carry. In addition to all of this, he has caught 51 passes for 634 yards and 5 TDs. Thats an average of 11.9 yards a catch and 22.7 yards a game.
Of course, as a junior, this all hinges on the fact that he enters the draft this next season. If not, watch the numbers build and snag him in 2009 if we still need a fresh RB.

Something tells me that, if he returned for his senior year, we wouldn't be picking low enough to get him.

Jacob Hester--3rd rnd--LSU. This guy will fit perfect in this system.Strong, quick may not have blazing speed but quick enuf to hit holes hard & get to second level & really good reciever out of the backfield.

A lot of people have said that Slayton is too much of a finesse runner. Well, I usually do not go for these sorts...but given our past history with "between the tackles", power runners...I am ready for something a little different. I think we need someone who can turn nothing into something, because let's face it; we have gotten a whole lot of nothing recently.

But white RBs can never possibly make it in the NFL.
Signed,

One name for you dogg, JOHN RIGGINS!! Use to tear the Boys anew one, if you know what I mean. I dont care if hes purple, this guy can play. Look at Leonard from Rams, just ran all over Cards for his first 100-yd game. Color dont mean ****, if a guy can play , he can play!!! And Im a black man, LOL!!

Yea, he tends to dance around to much for my taste. We need a runningback in the Laurence Maroney, Marshawn lynch mold.

I like Jonathan Stewart's style of running more than Slaton's. Stewart is about an inch taller and 30 lbs. heavier than Slaton and im not sure Slaton is a feature back in the NFL anyways. His slashing/outside the tackles style seems like it would require a reliable number one back ahead of him and I'm not sure Ahman Green is that.

no thanks, i rather have a back with power that runs north and south. i like a homerun threat, but only if that threat can grind out 4 yards a carry.
slaton is to bush like for my taste. good 3rd down scat back, but wont be the back that can carry the load.

The only RB that I would get in the first round would be McFadden, but that isn't going to happen this year. I'm not really sold on any other backs as first round quality.

but not even as good...
this would be a terrible pick for the texans, especially in the first round. I'm not a fan of Mike Hart or Ray Rice personally. But they fit the team MUCH better. Slaton will get wore out in the NFL. We better not take a RB in the first round....unless his name is Darren McFadden.

I like Kevin Smith from Central Florida.
Through 5 games he has 860 yds a 5.9 ypc and 11 TDs.
He has speed power quickness everything you look for in a RB.
If you watched him torch Texas you know how good he is.

I agree. I am a Razorback fan and have been watching this kid. He can hit the holes up the middle or go to the outside.
For those who don't know him, check this out.

God I hate Houston Nutt, but Darren McFadden is an absolute man-beast!

I know what you mean. Even if we couldn't get McFadden, Felix Jones is no slouch either.

Off-topic but the Patriots getting James Laurenaitis would just be plain unfair. Bolster that defense with a great Ohio State LB? I'd fear that defense even more.
On-topic, I don't watch much college football (not enough time), but just give us someone who has some speed and durability (not saying that Chris Taylor was fragile, but our other RBs appear to be), can maybe pass-block, and can hit the hole smartly.

I think we're going to have to go atleast 5-11 to have a chance at SS and that doesn't sound too good

Just give me a running back that doesn't fumble, gains positive yards, can catch, and can cutback.
edit: also, Steve Slayton is much stronger than Reggie Bush.
