How high do you all think he will go in the draft? I was wondering because if Spencer isnt coming back this year, and we know that salaam isnt the answer there...and speculation is Spencer will need to be moved to the guard position...could Howie's son be the answer at LT???
I've seen quite a few michigan games and the guy is a beast....after throwing his man out of the way he continously gets to the 2nd and 3rd levels down the field just bulldozing through people leading the way for Hart on running plays and in passing protection...well lets just say his man is usually on the ground staring up at him...
where do you think he goes in the draft and after seeing where we at after Ahman goes down....what do we look at??? Oline or RB??? Personally I would like to shore up our Oline and I think we should def look into what it would cost to get this guy...

I think he will be at least top 10, if not top 5. He is a beast alright and a roadgrader in run blocking...something we really need if we have to have at least a decent run game to complement our pass game. Personally, I would love to have him if McFadden wasn't available (or even over McFadden b/c we need Oline for a RB).

Howie's son is Chris Long, a DE for UVa, though like Jake Long, Chris is also a consensus top 5 senior.

Yes. He has 2 other sons, Kyle (likely first round baseball draft pick) and Howie Jr (I believe in 10th grade and plays QB and lacrosse). As for how I'd know this, I'm a UVa alum who became a Texans fan the moment they signed Matt Schaub.

Chris is a one-man wrecking crew, but obviously not at a position of need for the Texans, unless they're employing a Matt Millen drafting strategy.

Jake Long projects as strictly a RT at the NFL level, by my estimation, and we already have Winston there, so I don't think we would have an interest.

Why does he project to be a RT? not quick?

If I had to describe Long in one word, it would be "lumbering". He isn't quick at all and has problems in pass-blocking. He doesn't seem like the type of guy that we want protecting Schaub's blindside. His knack is run-blocking, which is typically a trait sought after mainly for a RT.
Long will probably end up being the 3rd OT taken in the draft, since Baker has higher upside and word out of Norman, OK is that Phil Loadholt (6-7,350, great athleticism, amazing pass-blocker) is going to declare.

By who? NFLDraftCountdown? That site is a joke. Watch the games. Long doesn't project to be a LT in the NFL. Sam Baker and Loadholt do, and they have a higher upside. They will both be drafted before Long. Long's workout numbers are going to make him drop from top 5 to top 15-20, unless someone before then needs a potentially dominant run-blocking RT.

Well too bad for Arizona they drafted Levi Brown last year! LOL
Hey some were calling Brady Quinn overrated but the concensus (esp. this early) was he'd be drafted top 5 or top 10 at worst...many thought he'd be the #1 overall pick.
Same can happen with Long..he could drop and Armor For Sleep has some very good points as to WHY he will/could. Most teams aren't willing to spend high money or high draft picks for a RT...unless he's protecting the QB's blindside...ala left handed Leinart.
Unfortunately/fortunately however you want to look at it, I have not had the distinguished pleasure of watching too many Penn St. games, therefore I only know about long from what i read on here, and various 'draft expert' sites.

No matter where Long projects, LT or RT, the Texans have no chance at him. He'll be long gone before we pick. But as Armor for Sleep stated before, Loadholt and even Gosdner Cherilus might be more realistic picks for the Texans. Both have been very impressive this season.
