Defense Overrated

Clearly our defense has been overrated by myself and many fans on this board. We are being pummeled along the line of scrimmage. Our secondary played ok, but gave up way too much ground. Is Garrard really a deep threat? I don't think so, he just picked us apart with the short stuff a la Harrington a few weeks ago.

It seems like their offense is pretty predictible. We just were unable to stop it.

Jones-Drew looks all-world today and the guy is 5'7". I know size doesn't really matter, but we are making him look good today. Between the screens, sweeps and off tackle stuff, we got annihilated.

i agree 100%, we can stop the screens even though they run it 2 times out of 3 downs. we need some speed!, and stronger guys, we are getting owned by jones-drew.

p.s: how come our running backs cant hit as hard as a 5'7" guy and move the pile 5 or so yds.?

I said this last week. Our secondary is suspected. We have one good solid Lb ( ryans ) and we need to stay away from a zone D. The jags O is predictable, but our D is hard to read either.

You know. I thought we had a solid, not great, but solid linebacking core until today. I don't know if it is the D-Line getting blocked into them and they can't see the play progress or what. They certainly didn't make enough plays against the run today. I'll agree that we need more speed there even though DeMeco is pretty fast. That run by Taylor at the beginning of the game was just awful.

nah, our gameplan was good our execution was bad, Salaam is wearing down and allowing backside pressure to the QB,

Flanagan is not the center McKinney was.

Our linebackers are constantly getting caught out of position, Our corners are to anxious and getting flagged

We need to watch chicago game tapes (not todays) and watch how they tackle. They have a strip technique i have a fetish with. Also, any one of their players do not consistently miss tackle.

The funny thing is we forced two fumbles today and they muffed a punt and we still got dominated!

I hope you are being sarcastic here. Clark is a solid starter, I believe he had a couple tackles for losses in this game. Linebacker is the least of our problems on defense. Here are the problems:

1. cornerback (not solid after D-Rob)
2. defensive end (Weaver is what he is and Mario is not living up to potential)
3. safety

Agreed. We have a lot of needs on this team. I came into the season thinking the defense was fixed, minus Faggins, and now I'm starting to change my thinking.

Both? We actually have 3 linebackers, none of whom I would consider below average. Greenwood is an average LB, Clark is a good LB, and DeMeco is an excellent LB.

You cant win very many games if you only put up 9 points. The offense didnt score a TD all game. The defense should play better, but I cant agree when you say the majority of our weaknesses are on defense.

yes D, but i dont think its the player 100%, we have WAY TO MANY PLAYMAKERS to play like we did today.... ryans, robinson, williams, okoye.......
just one of those guys makes a difference on D, but they have to be put in position to make them........ i think the first 2 plays of this game told it all (with the exception of the refs) we get a 7 yd loss sack then give up a 77 yrd run.......

Well, we have an injury to our best player and JJ still isn't out there. Despite this, we can throw the ball. I just think players on our O-Line need to step up. We can replace them next year.

Plain and simple...our D sucks because our secondary is extremely below average...and our D-Line is plain average

Dunta can cover...and Fred Bennett...who is promising...is still young

Faggins is absolute, certified garbage...and the rest of the secondary is nothing to write home about

Our linebacking corps is below average...with the exception of Demeco

our billion dollar D-Line is Trash

Mario has proven he wont be great...he wont be a star....the best he'll ever be is average...not hating the man...its not his fault he was chosen number one...and got to pocket 56 mill...but all he'll ever be in the league is average...he was drafted as our cornerstone, franchise defensive player...who Bob McNair said verbatim that "He'll be sacking Manning for years to come"

yeah right!...but one positive about Mario is he's good against the run...

Amobi Okoye is a beast

Travis Johnson is a bust

and Weaver is painfully average


Our D-Coordinator sucks...we get NO pressure whats so ever...we cannot defend short routes...predictable downs...we lack execution, tackling, basics in defense..

Every 3rd down..no matter if its 3rd and 5, 10, 15, 20....you ALWAYS know the offense converts....quarterback's average a 130 rating against us...

Clark has played well every game for us, w/o him our defense would be much worse. I sincerely hope we resign Danny Clark next year. If you havent seen what he's bringing to the table you need to watch the games more closely. Greenwood is only an average player, he is not a weakness or a strength. I cannot agree with you that linebacker is a weakness on this team, I think it is probably our most solid group. Here is my breakdown of the needs we should address:

No the MAJORITY, of the Texans weaknesses are the running game, that falls on the O-line and our RBs, I thought Green played well today considering how soon we stopped running the ball and the how well the Jags are against the run. The way to beat the jags is to get an early lead so they can't just run run run, and dink and dunk pass, which is what we were doing in the first Q, but we just couldn't get TDs to keep them behind the rest of the game.

We do need two tackles. We need a new starter at LT, and we need a new backup OT. Jordan Black is currently the backup at LT and RT, which is not good for this team. I would like to bring in some help at guard because they havent gotten the job done. Weary and Pitts are average players, but we need a good offensive line for once. Another WR is my preference because I dont think we have a real #2. Davis and Walter are pretty good, and JJ is coming along, but we could certainly use another WR, especially considering how Mathis is done and gone. Whenever D. Anderson is seeing playing time, that is an indication we need more reinforcements at WR.

Point is we didnt score a touchdown the whole game. That is not the defense's fault. Our offense has scored 2 touchdowns in the last 3 games. That is not the defense's fault. The D should play better, but you cant blame these losses on them.

crazy talk. First of all Diles is MLB. Secondly, Clark deserves his spot.

Clark is better then average, not saying that spot can't be improved, just not with whats available right now. Our defense did force 2 turnovers today, and I think Bennet played well (he still gave up too much cushion like petey, but at least he can tackle well, and force fumbles). Dunta played well, knocked people around as usual, on the MJD hit that was a hammer hit by both players, JDrew went straight down and Dunta flew backwards in an upright position.

LT is a much bigger need to fill than Clark's spot. Before we worry about upgrading at Clarks position, we should first upgrade our starters at LT, C, CB, S, DE, WR.

We would be better off to completely forget Spencer and build our team without him. If he comes back, fine let him compete for a starting spot. We were supposed to have done that this season. I specifically remember Kubiak saying that we cant count on Spencer, we need to go on without him, but for some reason he didnt take any measures to bring in a replacement. We cant count on Spencer.

They were just kept on the field too long. besides the 70 yd run by taylor they did good against the run. But like I said, they stayed on the field waaay too long
