My take on some of our current conversations and the state of the team.
There is no WR controversy, we have a bunch of number 3's playing the 1 and 2 spot. Until AJ gets back the trend of not being able to get into the End Zone will continue. I think AJ counted for 70% of our TD production and half of our passing yards until he got hurt.
Yes Schaub has flaws, what QB doesn't. Nothing that can't be worked on. This is his first year starting and he has impressed so far. A few INT's are not his fault, the dropped ball by JP last week and that play against AD this week are unavoidable from his stand point. Still no real play makers on offense, no RB, and other than AJ no threat down field. However this is the third week without a TD which is a little disturbing. Some of that fault can be put on Kubiak being stubborn and wanting to run the ball once in the Red Zone. Does Kubes not know about a TE named OD?
No Richard Smith shouldn't be fired. You can only work with what you got and its hard to stop the intermediate rout when you have below average LB's. Let us not forget Faggins is the second best CB on this team if that tells you anything. This is still a defense that needs both Safety positions, a CB, two OLB's, and a DE. You can't make Fillet Minoan if all you have is Spam.
Kevin Walter, solid third option. Good hands, not afraid to go over the middle and take a hit. The slowest of the WR core. Why do you give the slowest guy on the team a reverse play?
Which brings me to JJ. Why if you have JJ does he not get that play. You need some speed to pull that off.
As far as the Red Zone goes I think someone told the Texans the Boogie Man lives there b/c I swear they are afraid to cross that line.
The offensive line just needs some time to Gel. J/k. We need a Center, a LT, and Pitts is starting to worry me. He seems to have regressed this year.
Overall I really do think this is an 8-8 team. Anymore than that and we were overachieving. Most of us knew that coming into the season. Willing to admit to that during the offseason but forgot about that once the season started.
Could be worse, we could be Saint Louis.
