View Full Version : How's this for a Draft Day Idea?

Before the draft, we use Eric Winston as trade bait and try to get a 2nd Round pick for him. Draft Day then rolls around and here's how Day 1 goes:
Round 1 - Ryan Clady (LT of the future)
Round 2 - Ray Rice (paired up with Taylor and Green...NICE!!)
Round 3 - Tony Hills (RT of the future)
During the Free Agency signing period, sign OT Chris Samuels to start at LT while we develop our rookie stud OTs.
I like this idea a lot and really think it would go a long way in helping our depleted, lackluster offensive line.
Thoughts?

Id rather not get rid of our best offensive lineman for the hope that the one we draft can replace him. I would rather keep winston and just draft players that can help. I would even wait on a LT since we appear to be picking well above Clady's 1st round position.

Why trade our best lineman for someone who may be good? Thats so stupid just because you think ray rice is a god doesn't mean he will be in the nfl.

You have some good ideas, but Tony Hills won't make it to the 3rd Round (probably early/middle 2nd) and Eric Winston is our RT.....for the future. He's only in his sophmore season man and is doing a good job.

tony hills isnt even a RT prospect...he's not a physical blocker

Given what you just said, why would he be a LT prospect if he's not a RT prospect? That's why I like him on the right side, because of his lack of athleticism and toughness. He wouldn't be starting his rookie year anyway...Clady would.
Nobody on this board ever likes a trade idea anyone has. The prevailing logic of 'he's a good player, I don't want to trade him" needs to stop. That's precisely why you trade a player, because he's good, and therefore, you can get something good in return.

You don't just trade people who are good you trade people that you don't need or don't fit your system. Your tradeing a young talent tackle for essentialy an unproven player. This is why its not ever going to happen.

Trading Eric Winston for
A) an unproven, yet capable star RB
B) TWO talent-laden mammoth OL of the future
would be a genius move by our Front Office.
We'd be basically killing 2 birds with one stone.
1. adding quality, young depth on the OL
2. adding a potential star RB
*Signing Chris Samuels in the offseason isn't going to be enough to improve our OL both now and in the future*

You can't say that you kill two birds with one stone when it only brings you one pick. You could just as easily say that a draft of this would be just as good. We would upgrade at Running back but down grade alittle at Tackle.
1. Johnathan stewart
3. Tony Hills

We'd upgrade at OT. Dump Winston, but add both Clady and Hills. Hills has just as much upside as Winston did. Clady is off the charts.

I don't even think hill will be available in round 3, and I don't think he will make a great RT.

just looking at this, and no way in hell eric winston nabs you a 2nd round pick. nice to hope, but no way any team would give us a 2nd rounder.

You don't think so? He's a young, talented OT with tons of potential. Of course he would deliver a 2nd Rounder. Would you take a 3rd if that's all we got?

So if you think that then why not just keep him? Hell try him at LT, the kid is a hoss and I think we would be better off as of right now if we did that. Next year draft a star LT in the 1st and letts look at free agency or draft a rb. We have to keep what we have and I honestly dont think we would even get a second round draft pick for him anyways. He is a good player and I think could be great but I just dont think he is IT yet!
