Jake Long. Have you seen this link:

We probably won't draft him, but doesn't he just look like he would plug a hole in
our line???

if we end up with a top 3 pick...

he's a good run blocker, and a mediocre pass blocker. i can live with that. we need someone physical on the line. i dont think quickness and mobility is all that important if youre not physical at the point of attack

I would rather have Kenny Phillips and fill our void at playmaker safety than draft a lockdown right tackle.

heres the thing. long would make our line that much better. why? because salaam cant block a paper bag and our run game sucks. long would help the run game ALOT, and he's also gonna be a better pass blocker than salaam, not to mention that the run game opens up the passing game.

plus, charles godfrey is the answer at free safety...and we can nab him on the 2nd day.

Jake Long to me scheme wise doesnt fit our offense. Hes big and sluggish and projects to be a RT last I checked Salaam plays LT. Doesnt matter how good a blocker he is. Hes a great run blocker however you want the better pass protector on your left side. Salaam will be fine after some rest in the bye week. alot of this team will be.

However Safety has been a liability on this team since we let go of McCree. Phillips looks to be a defensive gem and would solidify our middle of the defense. Chances are though Jake Long goes to the team picking before us like the Jets, Bills, If laurenitis comes out cincy grabs him. unless Miami decides it does not want Matt Ryan or a QB.

as much as i like phillips, and as much as i would like to have him, i just think the opportunity cost is just way too high if you take a safety in the 1st round and have to rely on a 3rd round OT to protect Schaub. i know long isnt a great pass blocker, but he's a great run blocker and at least a decent pass blocker.

just watch charles godfrey play...kenny phillips is great and all, but getting a good OT in the 1st and taking Godfrey in the 4th would make our team a whole lot better than taking Phillips in the 1st.
